The case for scratching Semin

Earlier today I was reading a discussion on the recap thread for the Stars game about who should be scratched. A couple people mentioned Semin, but more because of the roster spot than anything else. I think that he should be scratched because his wrist has been bothering him for most of the season - the more rest it gets, the more ridiculous he (hopefully) will be in the playoffs. I'm not suggesting we scratch him night in, night out, but I think it's something to consider. Thoughts?

With where they are now, with a playoff spot essentially locked up, I think everyone needs a game or two off. I realize as a fan, it sucks to have guys like Semin, Ovi, and Backstrom out when you go to a game, but I think all 3 would benefit from an extra day or two of rest, especially given the amount of ice time they play, and the fact that they really had no olympic break.

Winning their next 2 would certainly make the decision easier…

I definitely don’t see Backstrom or Ovi getting a scratch, especially with Ovi being in a major scoring race. BB has made it clear that he cares about these things, even if Ovi doesn’t.

He said he doesn’t care, but I don’t believe him. He wants to be the best in everything.

I agree totally about the stupidity of the average person. Horrifyingly, nearly 50% of people are even stupider!

I doubt we’ll see Ovi or Backstrom scratched, but I’d be pleased if they were. It would also be a great opportunity for a sound bite from the press box “I’ve already been MVP twice, I’ve won the scoring title, these are not important, I want to win the Stanley Cup, and this is what Coach thought would be best to help us do that.”

But it’ll never happen.

BB knows that only two men in the history of the game have won 3 straight Hart trophies, and that AO is in the driver’s seat to be the third guy to do that. No chance he jeopardizes AO’s chance to do it unless AO is legitimately injured.

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

Maybe towards the end of the season scratch him for a few games to make sure he’s 100%. By then, hopefully, the East is clinched and they’re in a good spot for the President’s Trophy (either leading with margin to lose or out of it).
