Hahaha. Ann Taylor Loft, I believe. gfcaps mom picked it out. Loft & Banana Republic outlets FTW. And now I have to go to a meeting instead of watching this game. Argh.
Sometimes, you really just want to hit a b**ch.

besides jurcina, any of the new guys have any nicknames we need to know? (JP already threw out “uh oh” for corvo).

I’m going to miss this one – will be interested to hear reports on the new guys.
Gonna guess the Caps take this one in fairly pedestrian fashion. I’ll go with 5-2 Caps, ENG by Belanger.

Last I heard:
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Knuble
Laich-Morrison-Semin
Fleischmann-Belanger-Fehr
Chimera-Gordon-Walker
Green-Schultz
Poti-Corvo
Morrisonn-Carlson
GUTEN TAAAAAAAAAAAAG!
I don’t think I’ve ever been quite this happy about our d-pairings.
I should have saved my old signature. Oh well!
No kidding. I like the forward lines too, but I’d rather see Brads than Walker. I guess we’d rather get all the new guys adjusted at once though.

So here’s what things should look like at Verizon Center:
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Knuble
Laich-Morrison-Semin
Fleischmann-Belanger-Fehr
Chimera-Gordon-Walker
The ‘D’ pairs, meantime, will feature three lefties and three righties:
Schultz-Green
Poti-Corvo
Morrisonn-Carlson
Semyon Varlamov, meantime, will start in goal.
i suppose walker will be keeping an eye on downie now that brads is in the press box?
Just trying to capture the spirit of the thing...
dude if I was him I would be super exciting too. I mean professionally you have to be excited wherever you are but go be traded to one of the “elite” teams of the day has got to be a great feeling of what your about to do and what you’ve accomplished so far to be worthwhile to that organization.

-- Russia center Sergei Fedorov
All things being equal, Stecks probably gets a sweater for the playoffs, if for no other reason than he can win faceoffs. We’ll see what Walker has to offer. He’s nastier than Brads and Gordo, probably, so if he offers the same defense and cycling, he probably gets a sweater.
We’ll see.

Well, there’s a lot still left to shake out. Walker might not have enough left in the tank to get a regular sweater, Brads and Gordo might turn it on, or whatever.
We’ll start figuring that out down the stretch here.

Of the guys on the 4th line last night, I thought Gordo really had some jump, even besides the bank shot. Those bottom 6 forwards are just going to have to compete for ice time and some guys may get the nod based on situations like when we need more toughness in the lineup or when we’re more concerned with having faceoff guys in there.
by Davethecapsfan on Mar 4, 2010 5:49 PM EST up reply actions
Plus I’m figuring that Carlson isn’t in the playoff lineup, while Jurcina is. Alzner may also be in there in place of ShaMo, if you ask me.
by sixsevenfiftysix on Mar 4, 2010 5:22 PM EST up reply actions
Carlson may earn himself a spot if he continues to play well. I smiled an awful lot not seeing Erskine or Sloan in there.
by Davethecapsfan on Mar 4, 2010 5:45 PM EST up reply actions
I hope tonight’s his last game up here, though, and that they bring Alzner up for the playoffs. If that’s even possible.
by DrinkingPartner on Mar 4, 2010 5:49 PM EST up reply actions
I’ve actually thought Alzner has played pretty well up with the team. A lot of little stuff that doesn’t show up in the stats. But truthfully Carlson has been just as good if not better. We’ll see how it shakes out with Corvo in now and any injuries going forward.
by Davethecapsfan on Mar 4, 2010 5:50 PM EST up reply actions
Carlson’s not a lock, though, and I’d prefer we not lose a year of RFA eligibility.
by DrinkingPartner on Mar 4, 2010 5:51 PM EST up reply actions
No not a lock by any stretch…how Juice comes back and plays and how Alzner would play if he gets called up will probably determine what the thought process is going into the playoffs.

Usually the ones you find on eBay are the ones from these sites. The people tell you they’re authentic and jack up the price. A girl at work bought her boyfriend an “authentic” Ravens jersey off eBay, brought it in, and it looked exactly like the one I got from China.
Founding member of the Tyler Sloan Fan Club
Yeah, I’m pretty aware of that. The ones I’m considering bidding on seem good though (and not too expensive, at least not right now).

Look I’m sure Brads and Steckel aren’t going to be happy sitting tonight, but BB has to throw the new guys into the fire and see what he’s got. Belanger and Corvo are going to be in every night probably…the 4th line guys are going to have to fight for spots.
F&B…I know we haven’t even seen them yet but that 3rd line makes me think of discussions earlier in the year when MP was up and owning about rolling out 3 legit scoring lines. The dream may be alive again.
Does anybody think it's weird...
that Eric Belanger has scored between 33 and 37 points each of the last seven years. Talk about consistent.
Although, since he’s at 35 already, does this mean he’s going to get no more than 2 points the rest of the way, or that he’s about to get injured?
He’ll be playing with the best team he’s ever had – I think (hope) he breaks that record.
by DrinkingPartner on Mar 4, 2010 5:53 PM EST up reply actions
Whether on the 2nd or 3rd line you have to expect his point total to go up. We score a bit more goals than Minnesota.

Next to the tattoos, the disrespectful-to-ladies bit is what is keeping me from being a Corvo fan.

I don’t mind the taattoos, plenty of guys have them. The incident with the lady, though, is a different story. That is keeping me from being a Corvo fan.
I’m not opposed to tattoos, but you can tell alot about a person from a. the tattoos they have and b. the placement of said tattoos. lol

But this team has been light on guys that make the opposition gulp a little bit when they look at the lineup card, so I’ll live with the douchebaggery. For now.

Watching top 10 rookie seasons on NHL network, they are showing Selanne’s 76 goal campaign. Good god, it looks like they are skating on international ice. Also, I’d love to see goalie equipment shrink back to that size. It really displays the goaltenders athleticism so much more.
↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → b a (select) start
Yeah it was so much more wide open then. He got so many home run passes I don’t understand it. Careful with those goalie comments, you’re probably safe right now but zephyr is gonna come after you if you keep that up.

by Fehr and Balanced on Mar 4, 2010 6:31 PM EST up reply actions
I’ve always got the impression from quotes it was easier to defend on international ice. A lot of defensemen I think have said that while there’s more ice to cover, they use it to their advantage, because if they get beat it’s easier to recover, where as on NHL ice if they get beat it’s so small there’s no time. That could also be a disparity in the speed of NHLers compared to International ice players, but it’s what I’ve heard from at least one person (I’ll look for the quote).
I should have saved my old signature. Oh well!
I was just using it to describe how much space there appeared to be. I wonder what the average difference in height and weight of the players is.
↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → b a (select) start
There are advantages and disadvantage. A lot of players, especially skill players, like to use that extra space outside so you can sort of sit back and keep them out there and make sure the shots aren’t dangerous. It’s a little harder for them to beat you with speed toward the net. But if you go for a puck in the corner, and lose the battle and/or your man then you are SOL. You don’t think you’re that much farther from the net, but you are. The systems are also a little bit different because you have to account for space.

Angles are way different though. There is so much more open ice in the pre-gimmick but the angles are not all that different than the 5-on-5 game. Maybe the modern 4-on-4 is a more apt comparison for the amount of open ice
↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → b a (select) start
Yeah you may be right. It’s amazing how much lower quality the coaching and defending was even just 20 years ago.

Then again, you read stories about how guys would be out with the flu 20 years ago, where the flu is you drank too much the night before. But, also, back then we lost Stevens over a $1M contract (limo not withstanding). So no one was making the kind of money they are today. I do know that stuff wouldn’t fly today because of the sheer amount of money involved.
↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → b a (select) start
Exactly. The money equals pressure and competition. More people are playing, better people are playing, and the stakes are higher. It’s a year-round full time job now. And it wasn’t like that before. Morning skates and training camp were to skate the booze out of your system and get you in shape. That’s not a concern anymore.

‘Nother potential record tonight for AO. He’s at 89 points his next point, his 90th, makes him one of the few guys to his 90 points in each of his first four seasons.
(Saw this stat this a.m. don’t remember where I saw it but it was cool. So look for a sweet pass or a nice goal tonight from Ocho.)

Even though Taylor is gone I don’t think you can take a safety that high really right now. LT is a far more pressing need and to give a safety #4 money in the last year without caps on rookie contracts seems like bad business.

Yeah it was the difference in value between the #4 pick and a guy we could get at #10 I’d agree…but in this case they really are pretty close in value and O line is our biggest issue.

Yeah, but considering how weak our O line is and you’re losing a guy who started for 10 years you really need to fill that hole. Look at what Ozzie did last year drafting Oher. He’ll start there for 10 years barring injury.

GMGM for Redskins GM. GMGM is the antiVinny and that’s one reason I like following the Caps. Nobody knows what he’s going to do. Yet there is evidence of a guiding philosophy that leads to yearly progress.
erskine has scored...now i can die in peace
Bottom line if your O line is full of holes don’t draft a kid to get pummeled. Campbell is already good at that and truthfully I thought all things considered he had a good year last year. How many leads did he hand to the D with under 5 to go in the 4th that they blew?

yeah should have said all our olympians except nicky. but then again nicky had a better olympics than the others IMO.

True that. But he also had a professional coach and didn’t have the negative Caps Karma of the Czechs. Juice had a Get Out of Jail Free Olympics too.

Do we know whether he got that at the Olympics or whether he tried to play through it and made it worse at the Olympics?

Did you think the Schultz penalty was kind of borderline? A lot of the trouble is avoided if that one is not called. Likewise a lot of the other trouble is avoided if Greenie is not punished for his nondive. Nice to see them rally, especially Mean Lars, on that mammoth PK. PK like that brings a squad together during a key time.

It’s probably a minor point that Crosby got called for cross-checking Lunqvist after the play. Certainly not worth mentioning that’s why Dubinsky flew over and knocked his hat off
Not true. It just doesn’t get mentioned. Especially early he was racking up slashes and cross-checks like a motherfucker. He likes to take whacks with his stick when he isn’t happy.
