Capitals Acquire Milan Jurcina from Blue Jackets

Also per @TSNBobMcKenzie, Jurcina was recently diagnosed with a sports hernia.

Milan Jurcina 44 1 6 7 2 24 0 0 1 0 49 2.0

Per the team:

Jurcina, 26, rejoins the Capitals after playing 27 games for Washington earlier this season before being sent to Columbus with Chris Clark in a Dec. 28, 2009, trade that brought Jason Chimera to the Capitals. He played 17 games for Columbus, recording one goal and two assists. He has one goal and six assists in 44 combined games this season. Jurcina recently represented Slovakia at the Olympics. He has a minor injury and may not be immediately available to play for the Capitals.

The 6’4", 236-pound native of Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia, was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the eighth round, 241st overall in the 2001 NHL Draft. He has played in 319 career NHL games and has recorded 15 goals, 38 assists and 220 penalty minutes for Boston, Washington and Columbus.

I’m sure he’s terribly disappointed to have to move from not making the playoffs to moving back to the cup contender he started the season with…

And FWIW, when the Juice trade was announced, all the guys on Caps Report began to clap.

This is the push for the Cup? Belanger, Walker and Jurcina? Just very disappointing. I mean, I’m sure GMGM was doing the best he could to fill the pieces and the right deal didn’t come along, but it’s just very disappointing.

Juice

Bottom line, we got Jason Chimera for Clark and a 6th round pick. Turns out not to be a bad trade. Juice was solid on D, maybe he wasn’t the best D but he was good for the Caps and he is young so he can stay longer and grow. He is a big guy so that might help clear the crease.

by Rickarama on Mar 3, 2010 3:02 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

Juice also scored a SH goal against Pitt in the playoffs last year. So, his scoring total was the same as Scott Walker’s.
