Just images are sometimes NSFW or make a computer slow, so with a subject line people can collapse them

by TFG on Mar 3, 2010 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

TFG, usually your funniest posts are in all-caps. but yeah, the subject header requirement on pics has become a pretty significant battle cry around here.

by Natty Bumppo on Mar 3, 2010 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

Somehow I missed this policy all this time. eh, noted.

by TFG on Mar 3, 2010 2:11 PM EST up reply actions

no worries. keep on keepin’ on, people are on edge today for good reason.

by Natty Bumppo on Mar 3, 2010 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

It’s just because some people are on slow laptops and others are on slow networks. Lots of images make a page take forever to load.

by red army line on Mar 3, 2010 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

Even their not so nice players are in the NHL. I don’t see Boyd Kane striking fear. Or any of our D not named Carlznerson. Even they would be in over their heads as top pair against an NHL team.

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

by Fehr and Balanced on Mar 3, 2010 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I’m not so sure. The Oilers can’t score and can’t keep the puck out of the net. They’ve got a handful of NHL-caliber players, but they’re mostly role players.

There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.

by D'ohboy on Mar 3, 2010 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

But I’m pretty sure Steve Staios could handle Giroux/Aucoin/Gordon.

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

by Fehr and Balanced on Mar 3, 2010 2:38 PM EST up reply actions

As badly as they are slumping, I imagine the scoring woes of Gagner, Cogliano, Penner, et al would disappear in a hurry against even the best AHL talent. And the big guns for Hershey aren’t exactly good at scoring at the NHL level.

Of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst

by Killer_Carlson on Mar 3, 2010 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

I’m just not convinced the gulf is as wide as you’re assuming. There are tons of marginal NHL players who have moved down to the AHL and not dominated.

Yes, Giroux and Aucoin haven’t produced a ton in the NHL, however, I’m not asking them to play against an NHL team, I’m asking them to play against the worst team in the NHL with Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers as their starting G.

There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.

by D'ohboy on Mar 3, 2010 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

Giroux has played against bad teams before and done nothing. And he still has to get around legit NHL defensemen and forwards, even if they aren’t the best. Giroux and Aucoin would be overmatched against the top defenders of ANY NHL team, and the mismatch grows larger as you move down the lines.

Of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst

AHL premiere 2010-2011

Hershey Bears vs Edmonton Oilers in…Moscow?

Ovechkin = Green Backs

by red army line on Mar 3, 2010 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

Giroux’s problem in the NHL hasn’t been an inability to get shots – it’s been an inability to score. I think against a crap goalie, he can probably do that.

Also, don’t underestimate the fact that the Bears actually play a system (and play it well) and haven’t completely given up on life.

There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.

by D'ohboy on Mar 3, 2010 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know that JDD is so much worse than some other goalies Giroux has faced to suddenly solve his scoring problems. Plus, we’ll see how many chances Giroux gets in the NHL when he is the prime focus of the other team’s D, not playing in the shadows of Alex and Company. And that’s still only 1 player/line that may be able to hold it’s own. What are the rest of the Bears gonna do?

Edmonton may have given up on the season, but you can bet that they would work their asses off to make sure they don’t get embarrassed losing to an AHL team.

Of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst

short amount of time to take care of defense.
Walker, nice grit for a run but nothing more. 3rd line at most, which means the 3rd line is about to change significantly.
Belanger, BB liked, but he other than faceoffs and some modest offensive upside, it keeps the 2nd line small in the middle and slight on the sides. Walker doesn’t have the speed for the caps 2nd line.

by The Jade Donkey on Mar 3, 2010 2:34 PM EST reply actions

Assuming they move Flash…maybe they think BMo will have his legs back after getting the Olympic break. Not sure I feel dynamite about having a “real” 2nd line center either way but it could work.

by Davethecapsfan on Mar 3, 2010 2:35 PM EST up reply actions

I dunno if I would call Belanger a real 2nd line center, i’m just not sure. I’m not thrilled with it, but BB had a voice and maybe he knows better than I : )
maybe not.
Still, 2nd line is slight and Belanger doesn’t improve it drastically.

by The Jade Donkey on Mar 3, 2010 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

That’s what I mean…I don’t feel comfortable calling Belanger or BMo as is a real 2nd line center

by Davethecapsfan on Mar 3, 2010 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

But you should feel comfortable with Steckel at 4C and Flash not at center.

Ok, which would have been worse:

A) Jurcina back for nothing, or

B) Alzner gone for Kaberle?

There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.

by D'ohboy on Mar 3, 2010 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

Well that’s a ridiculous proposition. You damn well know I hate Kaberle and I refuse to move Carlznerson so it’s not relevant. Obviously I take A. But what would have been better is picking up Seidenberg, or Leopold, or any of the other myriad of D that were available and better than what we have.

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

Look, I’m also disappointed that we didn’t get Seidenberg or Leopold. However, I’m not convinced that GMGM is done.

There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.

by D'ohboy on Mar 3, 2010 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

I’m not either. But it’s 3 PM now and Hamhuis isn’t moving. I’m not sure what’s left to do. We didn’t get a top 4 D and I’m just as not-sold on our D carrying us in the playoffs this year as I was six months ago when we had the same exact D. In fact, I’m less confident because Alzner hasn’t even gotten a chance to make himself playoff ready. I’m moving on. Let’s talk about next year.

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

by Super_Hans on Mar 3, 2010 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

I probably am, but I’m also being consistent. I said earlier this season that our D wasn’t Cup worthy. I said that I didn’t think this was our year. I said that GMGM needed to upgrade our top 4 D if we were going to win the Cup. We didn’t so I’m holding my position. Maybe something leaks in late, but as of now I’m pissed. We were better positioned to make our team better than any other EC team and we squandered it. SQUANDERED!

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

by Fehr and Balanced on Mar 3, 2010 3:08 PM EST up reply actions

Remember that you have to have a dance partner in order to trade, F&B. It’s not fair to say it was squandered if the guy you’re targeting isn’t available for trade. We all pooh-poohed everything that was brought up that wasn’t Hammer or Volchenkov, and neither was available.

No Alex, no ratings. Know Alex, know ratings.

by Killer_Carlson on Mar 3, 2010 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

If things stay this way, that means that every year the Caps are unable to solidify the blueline while endlessly adjusting the forward combos… so whats the real issue here? we need to score more or we need reputable players to keep the opposition from scoring more? 10 years and we’ve got Green and Poti (and some draft picks that aren’t playing anytime soon).

by grapejoos on Mar 3, 2010 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

A second rd pick is certainly value. And at some point you actually have to give up value to get something in return. You can’t just fart around every damn deadline trading picks for moderate role players when you have a genuine need.

by wittcap79 on Mar 3, 2010 3:01 PM EST up reply actions

That’s true, the 2nd did have some value. It was the going rate for a role player who could contribute in the playoffs, and I think the Caps lost out on D because other teams had better 2nd rounders.

John Waltons twitter is saying a deal with Carolina…if price is Potsy and Osala does that mean Whitney? Corvo? If it’s Whitney I may be ok with that deal, if it’s Corvo I’d rather just keep Potsy.

If it's Cam Ward

I will be happy for the rest of my time in school, including college.

I’ll be pissed. Brutal contract.

No, pissed at Cam Ward. I prefer Corvo to Ward big time.

Got it, but do you think Corvo is that much of an upgrade of Pothier? And worth losing Osala too?

by BradleyFightingVehicle on Mar 3, 2010 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

He’s much better than Potsy. I think it’s a steal. OO has potential, but he’s slipping and his skating is still an issue. Potsy is gone. I was sure Corvo would fetch a 1st and we didn’t have to part with it.

Fair enough, I haven’t seen too much of Corvo since Alzner cut his leg open earlier this season. I’ll also admit to being a big fan of Pothier. But if Corvo is truly an upgrade I am fine with the deal.

by BradleyFightingVehicle on Mar 3, 2010 3:16 PM EST up reply actions

Nobody has seen much of Corvo since Alzner cut him up! I did some poking around last night and it turns out the CAR PK was better with Corvo than without him. That tells me he’s at least a somewhat reliable PKer, which is great. He can skate and move the puck as well so I’m happy.

seeing his big extension with NTC in capgeek. But I mean, he’ll solve any goalie issues for the next ~10 years or so.

I bet he wanted to. Who knows. We may never know the truth. But right now we have a ton of legit NHL players so a couple injuries (outside the obvious) don’t sink us. I’m much happier.

Nah. Gotta move something to get value. OO is good, but he’s expendable with all the other Fs we have in the system. The fact that he couldn’t get above the 4th line in HER this year is not a great sign for him.

Our lines as we now see them?

I’ve got

8-19-22
14-Belanger/Bmo-21
16-Belanger/Bmo-25
Walker-39-10
Scratch: Gordon, Q

52-55
3-Corvo
23-4
Scratch: Sha Mo,
Send down Sloan?

Scratch Erskine usually and dress Mo. Maybe Poti/Juice and Corvo/Mo. Or Poti/Schultz, Green/Mo, Corvo/Juice. We have options now.

Q sent down. Walker, Gordon are the likely scratches with Fehr also spending time in the press box because he thinks BB’s dog is ugly.
