So close to a Knuble goal that was distinctly Knuble-esque - but instead we're deadlocked at zero. C'est la vie.

He was defending a 5 on 3 – if he covers Staal like you want him to, Jokinen’s got a breakaway – Jokinen/Staal the Canes played that pretty perfectly.

The fail was the missed clear attempt from Brads when we had already knocked down the dump in.

by Davethecapsfan on Mar 18, 2010 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

That was pretty much it. But if a team executes perfectly on a 5 on 3, they’re pretty hard to stop.

I should have saved my old signature. Oh well!

by Whiter Mage on Mar 18, 2010 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

He should have gotten his stick in the passing lane but he waved in the wrong direction, which shows that he wasnt aware of where Staal was.

by Kolzilla on Mar 18, 2010 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

So easy to say he should have stopped a pretty perfect play. I think there was a little sauce on it too. It’s pretty hard to stop that play, and it was pretty much 4 on 2. It was a bad play for the whole team, but the bigger fail was Bradley’s non-clear, and I can’t even blame that so much because he did what he could and it didn’t get out. Assigning blame to someone on a 5 on 3 is like trying to assign individual blame to a hostage.

I should have saved my old signature. Oh well!

by Whiter Mage on Mar 18, 2010 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

You can definitely point out where someone could have done better. I will never be convinced that he played that well, sorry.

by Kolzilla on Mar 18, 2010 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn’t say he played that well, I’m saying it’s no one’s fault. It’s a 5 on 3.

You an always point out where someone could have done better, but let’s be realistic/fair. There’s not a player in hockey who couldn’t have done something better on every shift. I’m not pinning that goal on Poti “Standing there like a cone.”

O_O Refs just like changed the wholleee game.

Calling off Bradley’s goal because of an extra man that was at the gate, quick whistle on Varly, VERY bad call on Shamo. . .

Anytime the ref can’t see the puck they can blow the whistle so having it under varly is pretty legit.

Except they blew the whistle within a second, most times when goalies angel like that, the refs give it a few seconds because it could be anywhere partially under the goalie

I didn’t think it was a high stick, and even it was, I don’t think it was the stick that drew blood, and it bugged me that he didn’t blow the whistle on the shot immediately afterwards – penalty was an afterthought. He cut himself on the ice, I thought, when he landed.

2 Fs and Schultz on the first group. If it goes longer then play Mo if Poti won’t learn how to cover that pass. I prefer Poti’s skating but on a 5/3 he just stands in the low slot so mobility isn’t as big a deal as actually doing your job.

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
