Jim Kelley on Ovi
This latest mess is at least in part due to Ovechkin's many enablers, including an owner who is on record as saying that Ovechkin needs to "thine own self be true" and if the superstar wants to defy the league and play in the 2014 Olympics in Russia when the NHL has yet to commit to them, he will rent the plane and fly there with Ovechkin. It also applies to a coach who has been ridiculously supportive of indefensible hits, and to others in the organization who have helped create the idea that Ovechkin is above the game and put-upon by media "enemies." This has gone so far that at least one member of a national broadcast team was recently subjected to a tirade by a member of the Caps PR department when the broadcaster was actually singing Ovechkin's praises. Someone in Washington, very much like someone in the Commissioner's office, needs to learn how to lead. - Jim Kelley

that Jim Kelley is employed by a respected publication makes me weep about the state of journalism today.

What is that in reference to?
"Camaraderie, that's what the Washington Capitals are all about."
Last Fall Kelly was on Wise’s show defending an article he wrote blasting Ovi. While he was on the show, he made all sorts of claims that Nate (via twitter) shot down as false. It was an epic smakedown won by Nate.
"It hit me on the pants. I had protection. It felt good. Why? I wanted to win."
I remember now. Thanks.

So, “one member of a national broadcast team” means Kelley? Makes this rant even more pathetic.

I could have sworn that Steinberg had a post on it, but I can’t find it. But I did find Steinberg’s epic takedown of Kelley.

Since Kelley isn’t a national broadcaster, nor was he singing Ovechkin’s praises I don’t think this is what he is referring to. However, it certainly wouldn’t be the first time Kelley fudged the facts. It would certainly be much more pathetic and dishonest if he really is complaining about a personal experience through the 3rd person.

At the heart of the firestorm I was surprised that Kelley hadn’t weighed in yet with his “oh so objective” opinion on Ovi’s hit, but clearly he’s still smarting from Nate’s smakedown of him when on Wise’s show. It’s not about Ovi but about him getting burned with getting called on his gross factual mistakes. I don’t care how much “history” he has covering hockey; he’s just a hack journalist to me.
I have a feeling our favorite quilled rodent might be making an appearance in this thread soon…
