Capitals Farm Report - Playoff Previews

Here are my quick thoughts on our prospects as they head into their playoffs.  I may come back to add a lot of links, or I may not.  But keep checking back!

Star-divide

My thoughts - Mackan will probably be done first.  Farjestads has been wildly inconsistent and I think they are having goaltender injury issues.

Dmitry's team has also been inconsistent.  He's doing fine but Coach has been very critical of his linemates and even demoted one of them (the team captain!) to the third line.  And then they won big in their last two games.  The Remparts finished fifth overall.  The top four teams are all the other side of the brackets and only one of them can advance to the final.  If the Remparts buckle down they might play all the way through to the Q championship round while Moncton and Drummondville and St. John and Victoriaville beat each others' brains in.

Cody - The Broncos played out of their heads last week to first clicnh eighth place and then win two shootouts in back-to-backs against the seventh place team and move ahead of them.  This is good because they will escape a stone cold mauling by Joel Broda and the Calgary Hitmen, at least in the first round.  Instead they play the second-place Brandon Wheat Kings and will put up a good fight, but I think they will not advance.

Delly - His team is super white hot right now, crushed every franchise record and are the second-best team in OHL history, points-wise.  They're going to the Finals and on to Memorial Cup contention, IMO.  That is, if they don't get overconfident.  Windsor and London are gunning for them, and they are very good teams.

Broda - He's the dark horse because I wasn't paying any attention to him, but the Hitmen are going to take the WHL and challenge Delly for the Cup.  They are as scary offensively as the Colts and they might (or probably, if I'm being honest) have better goaltending.  Cody finished fourth in the league in goals with 47 and Joel finished 10th with 36, BTW.

My analysis/predictions:  Cody and Marcus will most likely be packing their bags for Hershey or Charleston late next week, then Dmitry a week or two after that ('cos i don't think they *will* buckle down but that's why they play the games), and SDR and Broda will be playing well into May.

At least they better be.

Marcus Johansson and Farjestads BK take on Skelleftea today at 7pm local time, which is about 20 minutes from the time of this post. you can follow the game action at theis link:

http://live2.hockeyligan.se/live_v4/index.html?game=20100318-FBK-SAIK

It’s in Sewdish but you’ll probably be able to figure out what’s going on. Mål is Swedish for ‘goal’, and you can guess the rest.

Now helping to keep an eye on all things Gr8 at Alex Ovetjkin.

Are you sure that Johansson can play for Hershey? He isn’t under contract and therefore can’t be on the reserve list right?

You are right about the goalie problem the number one goalie is injured. You can’t blame the back up Rahm though he was ok (in his first play off game). But nonetheless they lost against Skellefteå 2-3.

Färjestad had 9 straight wins against Skellefteå until late in January this year but since then SAIK have won 3 straight. FBK are now forced to win two away games to get to the second round.
Marcus had an assist in 13.28 of ice time.
FBK had a decent first period and finished strong but Skellefteå were the better team and played smarter then Färjestad.
The next game in the series is in Skelleteå on Saturday.
Marcus Johansson on how they have to play to win the next game:

We have to play like we did in the end of all periods then we have a good chance of winning away from home. Sure it would have been nice to win the first game but it’s the best of seven games that counts. If we win the next game then it’s 1-1 and a clean slate again.

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
