Hide any Comment on JapersRink
Humans are forgetful. Sometimes we post a great picture, but forget to post a subject line! Now we can't hide that picture! Argh! But worst of all, now people are going to yell at you.
NOT ANYMORE
This Greasemonkey script uses SBNation's toggle code (like when you click a subject line) to toggle the visibility of a comment. The only problem with SBNation's method? No subject line, no toggle.
PROBLEM SOLVED. This script adds a "Toggle" link next to the rec count of every comment.
All you need is Firefox and Greasemonkey. If you already use zephyr's ignore/favorite script, you're all set. (And yes, it's compatible). For very specific instructions regarding Greasemonkey, please see zephyr's fanpost
Step 1: Get Firefox
Step 2: Get Greasemonkey
Step 3: Get the script (Click the Install button)
I just coded this today, but I've tested it pretty thoroughly. If you run into any issues please let me know. I take no responsibility for you setting your computer on fire. This script, like any other script, may slow down your browser (but I've not experienced it). The "Toggle" link will not appear until the page is completely loaded. New posts that appear live will get the "Toggle" link within 10 seconds (adjustable.. see below).
In case you want to disable the script for whatever reason: go to Tools -> Greasemonkey -> Manage User Scripts -> Select the script and deselect the "Enabled" box at the bottom left of the window.
Advanced users: There are two variables you can change within the code. The first "refreshspeed" adjusts how often to check for new posts to toggle (10 seconds is default) and the other is "word" which just changes what text is used for the link, default is "Toggle."
Visual example below. Obviously this is mostly useful for picture posts, but you get the idea:
BEFORE

AFTER

A FTF'er here.
Let me say, awesome! This script will be extremely useful. Thanks!

Does it work with new comments? Cause I coded something similar up a while ago but for some reason it doesn’t add the collapse button to new posts for some reason, never had the time to try and figure out why. You can email me if you dont want to muck up the thread discussing details (i’d email you but none listed).

Wow. If only I used Firefox and not Safari.

Does anyone know why, on one of my computers, new comments are shown in yellow so it’s easy to see the new comments, but on my other computer, all comments are always white?
