For MLS enthusiasts, Galaxy owner Tim Leiweke tells us the ramifications against a players’ strike.
"I know I was the best CIA agent the CIA ever had, but I thought I told you honkies from the CIA that Black Dynamite was out of the game!"
It’s what I would have expected him to say. It was just typical public posturing in a labor negotiation.
As for me, I wouldn’t miss the MLS much, especially in a World Cup year. That is more damning of the league than any strike/lockout would be.

Watching Mallrats now, going to watch Psycho after.
I have to go. But if I find one single dog hair when I get back, I'll rub... sand... in your dead little eyes. I also need you to buy sand. I don't know if they grade it, but... coarse.

Just make sure you watch Hitchcock’s version of Psycho and not the crappy remake. I’ve made that mistake. Hitchcock is my favorite director by the way.

I wouldn’t think of not watching the Hitchcock version for my first time.

Some other Hitchcock movies to check out: Rear Window, Strangers on a Train, Rope, Vertigo, The Birds. There are many others of course, but that’s a good place to start.

Oh, I’d also add: North by Northwest and The Man Who Knew Too Much.

Rope is my personal favorite. The entire movie is eight scenes, which is incredible by today’s standards. The acting is great and they did not have the luxury of simply redoing a take if they messed up since each take was so long. Also, the entire set had to be movable to accommodate the bulk of the technicolor camera. In order to keep the scene rolling, the stage crew had to adjust the set off-screen whenever the camera moved. Once you realize what it took to shoot that film, you can’t help but to admire it.

The Lady Vanishes is fantastic too.

No prob. Hitchcock is probably my favorite director too.
The Lady Vanishes isn’t as “great” as some of the films you listed, but it’s a lot of fun.

Saboteur and Dial M for Murder are next on my Hitchcock list. Have you seen either of those?

I haven’t seen Saboteur. I need to hit my Hitchcock gaps when classes finish up for the semester.

I liked Dial M for Murder, but that might be sentimental in part because I think it was the first Hitchcock movie I saw. IIRC, the action is contained within one set for the most part, which feels almost like you are watching a play.
Rope is the same way. It’s acutally based on an old play and Hitchcock tried to capture that feeling in the film. The entire film takes place on one set and he only changes scenes because of the limitations on the length of a camera reel. I’ll definitely check out Dial M next.

Caps related: yesterday’s CRL had “what do you guys do on the team plane” as a topic. ShaMo said that no one sits near Brads and that he has the worst taste in movies. Cut to Brads saying he’ll watch anything if he hasn’t seen it before and that he had just seen Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.
(Also, apparently don’t play poker with the Russians, they go all-in with anything)

Also amusing – Rod Langway watching and commenting on those 80’s videos. He was quite surprisingly un-embarrassed by them, which I found quite humorous.
Anytime I watch a (pre-Dogma) Kevin Smith movie it makes me want to pick up a camera and be a filmmaker
I loved Dogma. My 2nd favorite Smith flick after Clerks.

Anybody know a really good machinist?
This is gonna sound really weird, I have this old guitar that I need to get a bridge adjustment screw for, and I’m having my severe doubts as to whether I’ll be able to find one anywhere, as the guitar is 1970s vintage, AFAIK.
If the guitar didn’t have a LOT of sentimental value to me, I’d probably put it in a closet or on eBay, but it does, and I want to be able to play it… I can’t without this piece.

You might try a parts supplier like McMaster Carr or Grainger. Give them a call and see if they know of anyone that can help you out. They more than likely don’t have anything in stock but they can point you toward people who specialize in fasteners and you might get a lead from one of them.

Good thought! In the meantime, I’ve gotten a new bridge saddle, and I’m going to be modifying it to work. Jury rigging at its finest. I may put a shim in underneath it to boost it up. Going to be working on it after work tonight. :-)

Kinda sucks that there’s more OT conversation going on in the Clips thread than there is here.

That’s because the OT conversation in the Clips thread is triggered by on-topic conversation, and then goes off on a tangent.
This, I believe, is human nature.

People aren’t making much an effort to curb that tendency, though, especially when it would be easy to make a post suggesting that the conversation be moved over here.

It’s also a lot harder to just ask people to come up with an OT topic, post it here and have it generate a lot of discussion. I respect what JP is trying to do but the fact is this thread usually tops off at around 30-40 comments per day while the hockey thread has hundreds if not thousands, so the likelihood of an OT subject taking off is a lot greater over there.
This thread tops off at 30-40 comments because people aren’t used to using it.

I disagree. It’s a lot more on-topic than it was this time last month.
My ability to post is only surpassed by my ability to pinch pennies.
Steckel Me Elmo asked for a review, so here it is.
Dropkick Murphy’s Live on Landsdowne
It is a CD/DVD combo. They are exactly the same audio track, except that the DVD has two bonus songs.
I give the package 8 out of 10 stars.
My only complaint on the DVD is whoever edited it went with the style of the day and kept switching camera angles every 2 seconds. It gets extremely annoying at times. Sadly I can’t think of a concert video I’ve seen in the last decade that doesn’t do this.
As for the audio tracks, DKM are a great live band, so not surprisingly they sound good. The songs they chose to include represent a good cross section of their newer stuff. You’ve got all 4 sports anthems they’ve done in recent years. I wish the Caps had a great song like “Time to Go” as a theme. Two songs, “Sunshine Highway” and “Forever 2009”, that I have felt sounded a bit too dull studio recording wise sound much better in this live recording. I saw them do “Sunshine Highway” live on the Warrior’s Code tour and it was still a bit slow. They’’ve ramped it up to fit the DKM style better. It felt like an attempt at a pop song on album. I was quite happy they included my favorite song from the Blackout album, “Bastards on Parade”. The Mighty MIghty Bosstones come out and play with the Murphys on “I’m Shipping Up To Boston”. There are other guests including other musicians, pipers, and Irish dancers.

well, it is true that we are pathetic souls with nothing better than endlessly comment on “Karl Alzner gets reassigned the Hershey for the billionth time this season”!
Wait, no.
We’re passionate fans who care deeply that Karl Alzner is once again reassigned to Hershey! Right, that’s the one.

From Steinberg’s chat:
Well, I hope I’ve dealt with this in my intro, but FYI, I’m now chatting in the passnger seat of Tarik’s rental car. A Chevy Impala. He wasn’t happy with the car, but there weren’t many choices.

Alkaline Trio at the Recher Theatre tonight. They best be good, because Towson is an effin’ long way to drive from DC for a lousy show.

I’ve been to the Recher once. Back in college some hippies in my old campus apt dragged me to a hippie show to see the Jazz Mandolin Project.
The venue was nice. It kind of reminded me of the Black Cat.. from what I remember. Just a simple layout with a bunch of room.
Pretty much. Black Cat is nicer, though. It was a cool place to see a show, in that it was old and felt like a church basement or a firehouse or something. No frills, ugly, stuff falling apart, but solid acoustics (unlike, say, 9:30) and even though it was a sold out show, it didn’t feel jam-packed.

WHY
…is this printer always so SLOW to print .PDF files??! WTF!

In your printer settings there should be a property called “Quality” which you can change to “draft”. Your printer should crank out PDF’s like Ovie get suspensions.. (oh snap) and it’s completely legible.
So… two a year?
That’s too slow for me. ;-)
