Had the NSH-LAK game on. Quick has made some real boneheaded plays already. 1-1 in the first.

I’m bouncing around. Watched the end of the first between NYR/PHI.

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

For a Rangers/Flyers game it’s been pretty quiet. Guess the points matter more than settling a score…

Well, other than Carcillo.

Avery has generated two PPs for the Rangers…

Look what happens when the little goon decides to actually focus on playing hockey. 1-1 Avery ties it up at MSG.

Avery is a pretty good player when he puts his mind to the game. Very similar to Matt Barnaby, although Barnaby had so much more raw talent…

Pump your breaks boy. He’s not on Nick Backstrom’s level and I don’t see it happening. He’s good. Real good. But his skating isn’t ever going to reach Backstrom level and I don’t think his playmaking will either. He’s a different kind of player. He’s also already 20. At that point Nick was already on his way to a Calder runner up, with two years of SEL experience.

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

by Fehr and Balanced on Mar 14, 2010 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I really meant more that they are similar players, not that Wilson will ever be on Backs’ level. I think Wilson will fall into the tier beneath Backstrom-level centers. You’ll have Crosby, Malkin, Backstrom, Getzlaf, then Wilson and his peers.

He’s the best forward Nashville’s ever drafted, and has a lot on his shoulders. Lets hope his performance lives up to the skill.

The problems I have with him now is not using his strength, but thats improving. He’s already a better skater than most Preds.

I never had him pegged as such a good playmaker. Always thought he was a “crash the crease” power forward type guy with good hands and finishing.

by Fehr and Balanced on Mar 14, 2010 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

No, from my perspective he’s not your average power forward. He’s really a hybrid—really good goal scoring instinct, but already the 2nd best passer on the team and its not close.

Its kind of hard to peg him right now.

Gotcha. You’ve definitely watched him more than I have. Basically I’m basing mine on his size, pre-draft reputation, the WJC when he played (when basically all of USA sucked) and the Frozen 4 where he was a beast.

I can’t see how Nashville misses the playoffs with their very strong backline…. winning at LA shows they have what it takes to make it and give someone at the top a headache for two weeks. I see Nashville and Detroit in, and Calgary out.

After all, Calgary has Vesa Toskala on the roster and he doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs for any team.

Someone explain to me again how Steve Downie draws an NHL paycheck. At least a guy like Carcillo has hockey skills. Only skill Downie seems to possess is utter stupidity.

Hope the Pens send a message on the 31st. That kind of crap has no place in the game.

The internet is so busy getting on Ovechkin, that no one noticed the Downie action. It’s not even in the wire game story. Nothing on NHL.com. Nothing on TSN.ca.

by MikeL-Caps on Mar 15, 2010 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions

The Caps have picked up two more points on the Sharks, and one more point on the Blackhawks, in the race for the Presidents’ Trophy.

The Sharks and Hawks each have one game in hand.

WAS – 101 pts with 13 games remaining and 46 wins
SJS – 96 pts (-5) with 14 games remaining and 43 wins (-3)
CHI – 94 pts (-7) with 14 games remaining and 44 wins (-2)

Washington caps out at 127 pts, San Jose 124, and Chicago 122. Obviously, a bit early for this kind of math, but the magic number on the overall #1 right now is 11.5 wins? Double-check my numbers, please. =) I listed wins because they’re the first tie-breaker – the Caps control their own destiny in that department, too. This was a really big win.
