Hard to fault Theodore for the current score IMHO

Once again the energy level is less than you’d like though finally the last few minutes of the second it seemed guys were finally comitted to going to the net…

I don’t blame Theo. Defensive breakdowns and Semin’s ridiculous run of the goalie are to blame. I dislike Sasha’s new I’m going to bulldoze the goalie when I’m one on one routine.

Yeah. We were killing that major so well and then he gets a breakaway…. and sticks the dagger in our own back.

Yup. We were killing the major well. Had less than a minute left to go.

How do you call Semin's second

penalty a bonehead penalty? If he doesn’t drive the net on that one you’d be bashing him for that… Also I dodn’t really think his first one was that bad either, I’m pretty sure he’s not the first guy in the NHL called for hooking when he’s backchacking….

If the officiating of this game is any indication maybe we should all get on the Don Cherry “anti-wussification of the NHL campaign” band-wagon….after all…

The second on was stupid because he just stood there and fell on the goalie without making an effort to get out of the way. That gets called every time.

On the first one, he wasn’t backchecking. And it was blatant.

If the officiating of this game is any indication maybe we should all get on the Don Cherry "anti-wussification of the NHL campaign" band-wagon….after all…

milbury milbury milbury…..ovi is important to the team but there wasn’t too much of an issue earlier in the season when they were winning while he was injured and suspended. the early start and that first period just completely deflated them.

Okay, that 20 games was an estimate for multiple suspensions. And I now admit it was too high. 10 would be more like it for a guessimate for cumulative games.

Actually, I was guessing 5 games for this time

Rocking the Red since 1975

by CapsFan75 on Mar 14, 2010 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I just can’t see 5 games though. Despite the fact he’s had two other misconducts and another suspension this season. With the way the refs threw us all those bones in the third, weren’t they as much admitting that they had completely blown the misconduct call in the first? Especially since the incident was over-penalized in the game, I have a hard time seeing the league giving him more than 3 games, and even that doesn’t seem right.

You’re already assuming he’s got a six game (or worse) suspension, when people are already questioning the legitimacy of the major+game. Let’s see what the League says before predetermining anything.

Gleason was the one where he deserved to be suspended. The Kaleta hit was entirely fine, IMO. If Kaleta doesn’t turn to the boards nobody is crying. This hit was in between; deserved a PIM but not a Game.

The sad thing is, if there was a 5 game suspension I wouldn’t be surprised. I dont think it will happen, but it wont shock me given how random the suspension length seems to be. Repeat offender with that ends a players season, 0 games. First time offender on an elbow that doesnt hurt the guy, 3 games. Really, you can’t predict what is going to happen. anything goes in the discipline department

Rocking the Red since 1975

by CapsFan75 on Mar 14, 2010 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I wasn’t assuming a 6 game or worse for just this single game. I originally hadn’t counted right and was assuming they’d treat him as a repeat offender and give him 5 games this time.

The longer times I had cited would apply to future years, if he accumulates Majors and Game Misconducts and the NHL Disciplinary committee decides to throw the book at him for any of those. (The 20 games came from assuming 4 majors and 5 games apiece). Yes, I can see, it’s probably too much.

I do see that people, including the announcers, question the legitimacy of the call. (At the time, I wasn’t sure, except for feeling special rules apply to Ovi ‘cause he’s a superstar and so big and massive and doing his misdeeds when the NHL is in crackdown mode because of something else that already happened.)

My current assumption is at least one game.

I have no idea. His puck handling hasn’t been sharp and that last shot was weak. Maybe the puck was bouncing but he’s usually better.

He’s a microsecond off here and a fraction of an inch off there. Agreed that he’s not terrible, but he’s definitely off. The hit today was ill-advised IMO too.

by Kolzilla on Mar 14, 2010 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Meh. You could tell that he had already decided to finish his check and that Campbell just didn’t swing behind the net in the manner he thought he would, so it ended awkwardly.

There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.

by D'ohboy on Mar 14, 2010 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Campbell had clearly gotten rid of the puck a good second earlier though. I don’t think it was the most egregious hit but definitely not the smartest either.

by Kolzilla on Mar 14, 2010 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, but my point was that Ovie’s mind was already made up. He was going to finish his check. Campbell just didn’t go quite where he was anticipating. That’s why I don’t think there will be much of a suspension. It’s not as though Campbell was stationary and Ovie took three strides and rammed him into the boards from behind.

There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.

by D'ohboy on Mar 14, 2010 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions

It wasn’t a full second at real time. That was still within “finishing his hit” territory as far as time. My problem was basically that it was the back of the shoulder instead of directly on the side.

but they wouldnt have even had a chance if it wasn’t for JT60

He was good but not great, I didn’t think. I though Nick was the only guy playing well early and really picked it up in the 3rd. His goal after the 5 on 3 was crucial. If we squandered that PP we were toast. And then the GWG.

After Ovie went out, I thought no one but Matt Bradley, Gordo, and JT60 were playing their game. Steckel came around, and they were still doing their 4rth line awesome forecheck and hitting.

Lars, Chimera, Grandpa Slippers, and Bubbles all came around towards the end of the 2nd from my PoV and they played awesome in the 3rd.

I think Chimmer’s earned his way to the top line for Tuesday’s game. And to think we were discussing the fact that he doesn’t really belong on the 4th line but is there for being the odd man out of the third line.

Flash, the logical choice for the 1st line slot, didn’t have a good game. And I assume BB will leave Laich with Semin (unless he’s rather promote Fehr to be with Laich, instead.)

Chimera’s on the ice day and night for the playoffs. Maybe he gets two or three off to rest between now and then, though. I like his game so much. Can’t really finish a breakaway, but the man is a forechecking machine.

His speed just lets him do so much more on the ice. Take it up for a rush when most players would just collect and set up with a whole team rush, backcheck and ruin any odd man rush against the team, and put ridiculous forecheck pressure

not to say otherwise because he isn’t the most skilled guy ever, otherwise he’d have like 30+ goals, but a good portion of his caps goals have been breakaways. his first as a cap was beautiful.

him and belanger have great great speed and it shouldn’t be overlooked

I remember when people were questioning that pickup because they didn’t see the contribution. The guy stretches the ice offensively and takes away time and space from opposing defensemen on the forecheck. Awesome, awesome player.

Nice.

There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.

Haha. Yeah, that was a pretty bad call on Milbury’s part. It’s like he wasn’t aware that it’s a team sport and there are other players that are involved…

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

He must have figured since the Caps didn’t have Yashin on the team there was no chance of a comeback.
