Just tuned in. Who’s at fault for the poor showing this time? Defense, offense, goaltending, bad luck…?
Rink Rabbit & newest member of TySlo's fan club.
Hard to fault Theodore for the current score IMHO
Once again the energy level is less than you’d like though finally the last few minutes of the second it seemed guys were finally comitted to going to the net…

I don’t blame Theo. Defensive breakdowns and Semin’s ridiculous run of the goalie are to blame. I dislike Sasha’s new I’m going to bulldoze the goalie when I’m one on one routine.

Yeah. We were killing that major so well and then he gets a breakaway…. and sticks the dagger in our own back.
Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

Yup. We were killing the major well. Had less than a minute left to go.
I thought NBC was playing a replay of his recent shootout performance at first.

The officiating (and semin’s boneheaded penalties).

Of course, Semin’s penalties have nothing to do with why we are losing. Agree completely.

Oh please, the original question was who is in fault for poor showing. It’s so easy to ignore 5 min major on Ovi, bad check by Steckel, etc, etc.
Of course, but Semin was parenthetical.

And his PIMS were momentum killers. Especially the second. That was a 2 goal turn around.

How do you call Semin's second
penalty a bonehead penalty? If he doesn’t drive the net on that one you’d be bashing him for that… Also I dodn’t really think his first one was that bad either, I’m pretty sure he’s not the first guy in the NHL called for hooking when he’s backchacking….
If the officiating of this game is any indication maybe we should all get on the Don Cherry “anti-wussification of the NHL campaign” band-wagon….after all…

The second on was stupid because he just stood there and fell on the goalie without making an effort to get out of the way. That gets called every time.
On the first one, he wasn’t backchecking. And it was blatant.

Disagree on the first. He was backchecking and it was a dubious call.
For the second, we need some brakes on Sasha.

milbury milbury milbury…..ovi is important to the team but there wasn’t too much of an issue earlier in the season when they were winning while he was injured and suspended. the early start and that first period just completely deflated them.
"Hey anyway I can get my name out there 30 years from now is great," Steckel said. "They will be like, ‘Who was that guy?’ Then they’ll look at the stats and say, ‘Well, at least that guy was really good on face-offs.’"
There’s a huge difference when you know he’ll be out and when the referee’s completely change the entire feel of the game but making a BS call and ripping the heart out of your team. And yes Ovie is the heart of the team.
yeah but when he go tossed twice this year they didn’t loose this much intensity

Pulled out a draw in stoppage time. Awesome bender to the far post by Johnson. They were as bad as the Caps have been today. They just got lucky they were playing Sunderland. Sick of them playing down to level of competition and turning should be wins into draws.

So was that yet another dis' of Mike Green by Milbury or was he ...
just trying to mix up the discussion? So tell me again what was Milbury’s track record as coach and GM? I know he was just an average player but didn’t he basically s@%k as a GM and Coach? Why do they make us listen to him on NBC?…

NBC doesn’t admit as much, but he’s basically on there to say things that are dumb and/or ill-informed. His defense of Ovechkin today notwithstanding, he’s NBC’s attempt to get somebody that pushes buttons like Cherry. It doesn’t work at all as far as decent analysis goes, but NBC has shown time and again that yeah, they really could care less about hockey.

Sorry, guys. It’s probably at least a one game suspension, especially since Campbell got hurt (and he’s too hurt to make the team trip to the West Coast).
I guess I got lucky and got to see Ovi for his one and only playing appearance in South Florida.
Rocking the Red since 1975
I doubt they will since Ovi’s a repeat offender. I’m beginning to think that we should now count him out for 20 games per year for suspensions beginning with next year. So, anyone wanting to see Ovi will only get a 3 in 4 chance of seeing him.

Ovi’s had this unfortunate tendency of getting 5 minute major penalties. And the NHL has this tendency to increase discipline for repeat offenders.

Okay, that 20 games was an estimate for multiple suspensions. And I now admit it was too high. 10 would be more like it for a guessimate for cumulative games.
Actually, I was guessing 5 games for this time
Rocking the Red since 1975
I just can’t see 5 games though. Despite the fact he’s had two other misconducts and another suspension this season. With the way the refs threw us all those bones in the third, weren’t they as much admitting that they had completely blown the misconduct call in the first? Especially since the incident was over-penalized in the game, I have a hard time seeing the league giving him more than 3 games, and even that doesn’t seem right.
"That's hockey. You never know what's going to happen. It's a tough sport. No tooth, a broken nose, but I'm looking good [laughs]." - #8
You’re already assuming he’s got a six game (or worse) suspension, when people are already questioning the legitimacy of the major+game. Let’s see what the League says before predetermining anything.

Right. Precisely why I’m not pegging him for a 5 game suspension for every game misconduct he gets.

Considering 2/3 were bad misconduct calls (by the ref). No way he deserved one for Kaleta; this one is slightly worse but I don’t buy 5/game.

I think all three of his game misconducts were ticky tacky majors and should have been minors to begin with.
The Gleeson hit. Gleeson was back before the penalty has expired.
Rocking the Red since 1975
Gleason was the one where he deserved to be suspended. The Kaleta hit was entirely fine, IMO. If Kaleta doesn’t turn to the boards nobody is crying. This hit was in between; deserved a PIM but not a Game.

The sad thing is, if there was a 5 game suspension I wouldn’t be surprised. I dont think it will happen, but it wont shock me given how random the suspension length seems to be. Repeat offender with that ends a players season, 0 games. First time offender on an elbow that doesnt hurt the guy, 3 games. Really, you can’t predict what is going to happen. anything goes in the discipline department
↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → b a (select) start
I wasn’t assuming a 6 game or worse for just this single game. I originally hadn’t counted right and was assuming they’d treat him as a repeat offender and give him 5 games this time.
The longer times I had cited would apply to future years, if he accumulates Majors and Game Misconducts and the NHL Disciplinary committee decides to throw the book at him for any of those. (The 20 games came from assuming 4 majors and 5 games apiece). Yes, I can see, it’s probably too much.
I do see that people, including the announcers, question the legitimacy of the call. (At the time, I wasn’t sure, except for feeling special rules apply to Ovi ‘cause he’s a superstar and so big and massive and doing his misdeeds when the NHL is in crackdown mode because of something else that already happened.)
My current assumption is at least one game.

He’s a microsecond off here and a fraction of an inch off there. Agreed that he’s not terrible, but he’s definitely off. The hit today was ill-advised IMO too.
Meh. You could tell that he had already decided to finish his check and that Campbell just didn’t swing behind the net in the manner he thought he would, so it ended awkwardly.
There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.
Campbell had clearly gotten rid of the puck a good second earlier though. I don’t think it was the most egregious hit but definitely not the smartest either.
Yeah, but my point was that Ovie’s mind was already made up. He was going to finish his check. Campbell just didn’t go quite where he was anticipating. That’s why I don’t think there will be much of a suspension. It’s not as though Campbell was stationary and Ovie took three strides and rammed him into the boards from behind.
There's a fine line between arrogance and ignorance and only I manage to erase that line.
Yeah there shouldn’t be a suspension. At most it should have been a double minor and Enzo seemed to agree.
And Campbell toe picked it. If his skates stay on the ice flat he just rides it out and bumps the boards.

It wasn’t a full second at real time. That was still within “finishing his hit” territory as far as time. My problem was basically that it was the back of the shoulder instead of directly on the side.

So much for chicagos elite defense… The only thing that could make this day better is if hershey wins their game today.

If not Lars, then definitely Chimera for the hard hat
Probably #25’s best game as a Cap
I think Chimmer’s earned his way to the top line for Tuesday’s game. And to think we were discussing the fact that he doesn’t really belong on the 4th line but is there for being the odd man out of the third line.
Flash, the logical choice for the 1st line slot, didn’t have a good game. And I assume BB will leave Laich with Semin (unless he’s rather promote Fehr to be with Laich, instead.)
Rocking the Red since 1975
They mentioned Chimera several times today.
"You ever use smelling salts, every time you type a bad blog?" Brooks Laich
Chimera’s on the ice day and night for the playoffs. Maybe he gets two or three off to rest between now and then, though. I like his game so much. Can’t really finish a breakaway, but the man is a forechecking machine.
erskine has scored...now i can die in peace
but that’s why this is such a good team for him. he’s got a lot of what what we don’t got and we’ve got a lot of what he doesn’t got.
erskine has scored...now i can die in peace
His speed just lets him do so much more on the ice. Take it up for a rush when most players would just collect and set up with a whole team rush, backcheck and ruin any odd man rush against the team, and put ridiculous forecheck pressure
Bah-Ram-Ewe, Ovechkin will wreck you. Fear the Furious Fleece!
not to say otherwise because he isn’t the most skilled guy ever, otherwise he’d have like 30+ goals, but a good portion of his caps goals have been breakaways. his first as a cap was beautiful.
him and belanger have great great speed and it shouldn’t be overlooked
Joe Corvo understands we hold "Penguins" with as much disregard as theatre people do Macbeth.
Now if we can only get Locker to start calling him Jumbo Joe. . .
I remember when people were questioning that pickup because they didn’t see the contribution. The guy stretches the ice offensively and takes away time and space from opposing defensemen on the forecheck. Awesome, awesome player.

Won’t happen. At least not next game. The scratches will be: Laing, Bradley (if they want to use Walker instead of him), and Ovi (who’s likely to be suspended)
Our lines for Tuesday:
Chimmer/Backstrom/Knuble
Laich/Belanger/Semin
Flash/B Mo/Fehr
Gordon/Stecks/Walker.
BTW, how would Laing and Fehr on the same line work out?

http://espn.go.com/nhl/blog/_/name/nhl/id/4994689/ovi-suspended-latest-hit
First, everyone loved Sid and it was unique to write about Ovechkin as a great player.
Then everyone wrote about Ovechkin being great, so it became unique to write about how he was dirty/sore sport.
Now everyone is writing about him being dirty so people are going to write about this not being that bad in an attempt to once again be unique.
