Who to get on Caps jersey...
I've been thinking about getting a new caps jersey for a while now. I already have a red Mike Green and wanted to get one of the white ones. The problem is that I don't know who to get one it. Right now I'm leaning towards an Ovechkin, Backstrom, or a Shultz. My criteria for the new jersey is:
- I want someone who will stay on the team for more seasons than just this year
- Only a top-six forward, so no Bradley or Steckel
- I'd rather not have a goalie as the situation with Varlamov and all...
Thanks!

I’d recommend Shultz.

Well Schultz isn’t a top 6 forward. I’d say go with Backstrom. You don’t want to join the 95% of the crowd with Ovechkin jerseys.
Once Backstrom inks his contract, I’ll probably send out my jersey order
I think he meant that if he’s getting a forward, it has to be a top six forward.

I want a Backstrom
After his new contract of course. If I got a Schultz, I could educate the plebes, but then I’d have to debate drunk people all right, and that gets old fast.
Plus, Backstrom is a half decent player
I agree totally about the stupidity of the average person. Horrifyingly, nearly 50% of people are even stupider!
Right, you can’t get more longevity out of a jersey than Ovechkin. Plus, I believe his jerseys are a little cheaper as they are not considered “custom” made.

KNUBLE! (He’ll be here forever. He’ll be here forever. He’ll be here forever. I said it three times so it has to come true.)

Man, all that repetition made me have a flashback to Nylander.

Stand out from everyone else and get a Schultz. Backstrom would be a good choice too, but I bet there are a lot of Backstrom jerseys out there, so get a unique one (to be honest, I got a little sad when you said no Steckel or Bradley jersey, because one of those two will be my next jersey. Hopefully it’ll be a Winter Classic jersey.).
Staying within your paramaters, the obvious choice is Knuble. He’s got a few good years left and I don’t (want to) see him leaving DC. You may want to re-think Steckel or Bradley though because it’s those guys who are the heart and soul of our team. They work their butts off for less money and less recognition than the superstars.
Well, he’s got one year left after this one, and I’m guessing he’s retiring after that season.

Don’t be so sure about that. He’ll only turn 39 in 2011, and a player of his type could easily play until 40, if that’s what he wants. If next year is anything like this year, why would he retire?
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
Family, fatigue, injuries (A lot don’t go away, they just linger), there’s plenty of off-ice reasons that anyone could retire any day for, and we couldn’t really complain about it.
I should have saved my old signature. Oh well!
No disagreement there. Simply my evaluation of the athlete psyche, very few ever seem to want to retire voluntarily. Exhibit A – Chris Chelios.
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
Well, we sensationalize the Chelios/Favre type cases, but for every one of them there’s probably ten or twenty guys who step away gracefully.

In the future, something like this is better as a FanShot.
