Yeah, just read this myself. Mark your calendars down for March 18. You think the B’s are going to want payback? I wouldn’t be shocked if the game has 100+ PIMs.

Read the chat log at ESPN with LeBrun from this afternoon. I lost count of the questioners that were suggesting that Crosby and Malkin should skate with their heads on a swivel in that game. I imagine that in reality nothing will happen because everyone will get a talking to before the game. So Cooke gets away with it. And gets to hurt someone else between now and next season.
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
Well, the real question is, is it either in Julien’s style to let his team do that, or does he have the reins held closely enough to prevent them from doing it anyway? Additionally, since they’re scrapping for a playoff spot, will the B’s (awful pun time) lose their heads over this (sorry.) and be distracted from the game itself?

everyone will get a talking to
By their coaches, or by the officials? Because, frankly, if I’m a Bruin, I don’t really give a damn what the officials say. The heart and soul of my team got cheap-shot and neither they nor their bosses didn’t do a thing about it.

The B’s didn’t want payback after the hit happened, Cooke took shifts and no one even got in his face.
I think someone like Thornton will go at him, he’ll have to accept and then they’ll move on and be able to play the game. Boston’s in too much of the playoff hunt to flush 2 points down the toilet by taking out a vendetta. It’s not going to bring Savard back any quicker.

Thornton may have to wait in line. If Chara wants him (I bet he does), then Chara will destroy get Cooke…

Cooke will surely turn down Chara (who wouldn’t), just as Cooke turned away Colton Orr after the Anisomov hit, preferring to go with someone near the same weightclass.
I don’t see how Chara gets his hands on Cooke without drawing an instigator. Unless the refs are gonna turn a blind eye to this, which I can’t imagine they will due to all the notoriety of this one, I don’t see it.

I don’t think you’re both talking about a fight.
I don’t see Cooke as a fighter, more as an agitator, someone who will do what he did to Savard to anyone on the ice at any moment to get under the other team’s skin. It’s a good strategy and safer than fighting from a penalty box stand point.
Were I a member of the bruins, I would check Cooke twice as hard and probably skirt – if not cross – the line of charging and boarding, probably some cross-checking when the ref wasn’t looking.
I hope Cooke gets his just desserts.
Who said anything about Chara fighting Cooke… I said destroying him buy using his 6’ 9" all-muscle size to obliterate him in the corner…

Great leadership idea to take yourself to the box as the team’s best PK’er. That’s the ticket to the playoffs.
Wayne Gretzky had it wrong: 100% of the shots Gary Roberts doesn't take DO go in.
And that’s why Chara is overrated. It’s not fantasy hockey. PIMs hurt your team. But Norris voters said “oooooh he’s strong and mean and has 100+ PIM” so that must mean he’s awesome. Fucking nonsense.
Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.
“XXXXXXXX delivered a shoulder hit to an unsuspecting player,” NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell said in a statement. “It is also my opinion that the hit was delivered late and targeted the head of his opponent, causing significant injury.”
Does anyone remember who CC was talking about and what happened then?
I’m guessing either Richards or Brash. It sounds familiar.

It was Brashear. And he got 5 games for it (6 total, but one was for pregame antics).
So CC’s nonsense about consistency is BS. He effectively declared open season for headshots using the shoulder for the rest of the season.

The difference being that Brashear’s hit was really late and Cooke’s wasn’t. Cooke’s hit was despicable, but I don’t think it was technically illegal. It should be, but I don’t think it is.

Per McKenzie twitter.
All they wanted was “consistency” No suspension for Richards, no suspension for Cooke.
So the fucked up on the first call, and want to save face.
And yet they suspended Brash in last year’s playoffs. I’m not buying it.

lol, Consistent, The NHL makes no sense with its suspensions. Mike Green gets 3 games for a high elbow.

Cooke gets off for almost taking Savards head off. Granted not exactly the same thing, but you gotta ask why Cooke isn’t suspended for at least a couple games.
Anyway, I hope Savard is able to play again soon. Because I doubt he’ll be back this year.

for real. Cooke can count on not just a tough Boston game next week, but for as many games in the future as he’s so fortunate to play.
Since I’m not an animal and I like to savor my feasts, instead of doing Matty boy a huge favor and getting his share out of the way early, I’d rather Cooke get smacked around cleanly throughout the game before Looch finds him….maybe with his head down.
IBTL, amirite?

Agreed, but my “eye for an eye” would focus on #87.

Anyone want to wager how much time was wasted at the GM meetings coming up with a new rule, when all they had to do was append the language of one that exists already?!
44.1 Checking from Behind – A check from behind is a check delivered
on a player who is not aware of the impending hit, therefore unable to
protect or defend himself, and contact is made on the back or head part of the
body. When a player intentionally turns his body to create contact with
his back or head, no penalty shall be assessed.
Done. Fixed. 4 words, and we have all the situations they are worried about covered. Even more upsetting, is that there is enough leeway in the way this rule is written for the Ref’s to have used it vs. Cooke. There’s no minor for this foul, it’s a 5 min major + misconduct or match + misconduct penalty every time.
Funny, how most of the world’s problems could be solved by actually following the rules that are on the books already.
McSorley played a lot more games in Pittsburgh than he did in Boston, he’d never turn his stick against us!

Great stuff from BoA on Cooke’s “resume”:
Daymond Langkow, November 2007 — concussion (hit from behind into boards)
James Wisniewski, November 2007 — concussion, face stitches (hit from behind into boards)
Petteri Nummelin, November 2007 — concussion, broken nose (hit from behind into boards)
Scott Walker, January 2009 — concussion
Zach Bogosian, March 2009 — knee
Eric Cole, May 2009 — knee
Shean Donovan, November 2009 — torn ACL
Artem Anisimov, November 2009 — “bell rung”
This is all before Marc Savard, March 2010, and I doubt it’s exhaustive
Indeed it’s not – it doesn’t include the shoulder injury suffered by Vinny Lecavalier.

Guess the check cleared this month.
—Come on, they didn’t suspend a FLYER on a similiar incident. It’s clear that this loophole is open until next season if you don’t leave your feet, don’t get the elbow up and arrive shortly after the puck is there.

Not that I agree either, but if that had been #87 lying on the ice…just saying.
