Clearly a reputation call. I mean, Schultz plays such a nasty physical style the zebras want to throw him in the box any chance they get.

Looks like Schultz was the victim of a bad angle by the referee. The ref right in front of the play (#48) didn’t signal a delayed penalty. It was the other ref, across the ice, who made the call. You can’t see his position when the alleged infraction occurs, but at the 0:17 mark he comes into frame. You can tell based on that position where approximately he was standing when he made the call. From that angle, it made have indeed looked like a slash.
Great job on these video captures, Ren.

also, props to pierre mcguire for quickly pointing out which ref made the call on the ice. i didn’t get to see the game live, so this was awesome to watch.
Oh, I watched at work without audio. Sorry if my comment was restating exactly what the announcers said.

no, def not, you expounded on it. but in all the hate being directed NBC’s way, i thought it worthwhile to point out that PG didn’t hesitate to call out the referee at the time.
Definitely worth noting. I think the NBC hate is a bit of an overreaction, and this shows a specific example of the announcers being balanced. I didn’t get a good look at this penalty when it happened live, but I do remember the announcers disagreeing with the call at the time.
