Coming together for a good cause

Greetings fellow hockey fans! I know I'm treading on hostile ground here, but it's for the best of causes: namely, to invite you all to come on over to PensBurgh for Sunday's Caps/Pens game to help raise money for the Red Cross disaster relief efforts in Haiti. For every comment in Sunday's open game thread (up to 2000,) I will be donating five cents to the Red Cross. Fellow PensBurgher Hooks Orpik has pledged to match this amount, so each post will be worth ten cents to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Sure, we may be on opposite sides of what is arguably hockey's hottest rivalry, but helping ease the suffering of so many is something we can all agree on, so come on over to PensBurgh and, just for one day, let's tolerate each other for a good cause!

Rec’ing for Glastnost and for the likely flamewars that will result.

Détente!

I’m going to the game – the Caps are collecting $$$ there so I’ll throw in a couple extra shekels for Pensburgh.

Thanks for the invite and hope the Rink represents.

Well if there is a flame war, it will generate a ton of posts, which in turn would generate more money. . .

I’ll def be there

Still waiting for someone to draft Paul Newman. . .

This should be a lot more dangerous than the PPP one a couple of weeks ago. Then again I got officially warned during that one, so could this be any worse?

I’ll drop in to add to the count between periods.

PPP deleted out tribute to John Carlson, Real American Hero! tonight. Seems they’re still a wee bit sore about that…..

They did?! And it wasn’t even the goal! Well, John Carlson, Real American Hero can always come back for more.

They what? Oh my, are we still a little sore? And some say Canadians don’t care. Uh-huh.

Thanks for this. I will be at the game, so I can’t participate, but it’s awesome of you to invite.

No Alex, no ratings. Know Alex, know ratings.

Was it because they were sore or because that animated gif lags the hell out of an active thread? I suspect it’s the latter. They are pretty good sports and Chemmy is an American.

Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

good cause

Thanks for all your efforts. I won’t be able to post during the game since I’ll be AT the game (and have to start walking soon, since there’s no bus service here because of the snow). I’m glad the Pens made it here to DC, because I don’t mind walking several miles through the snow to watch the world’s greatest hockey player, Alex Ovechkin, and his teammates beat you guys. Go Caps!

I’m still stuck in the ex-urbs, so I’ll swing by and post for the cause.

Only YOU can prevent idiots from commenting!

I would definitely stop by to help the cause. But the game is going to be at 2AM here and I have class in the morning.

Now drink with me deeply of the bourbon, scotch, and rye until such time as we are fighting drunk.

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
