Video of Jose Theodore getting the laser-pointer-in-the-eyes treatment at MSG. Not cool. At all. (H/t The Hockey Chronicles)

Was inexcusable in Vancouver and it’s just as inexcusable now. Not sure how the NHL and/or security can halt this trend….but something’s gonna have to give.
It is ultimately going to have to come down to the fans, and I don’t mean the one’s bring the stupid things in in the first place, because they are hopeless. I mean the one’s sharing the section with said idiots. The responsibility falls on them to represent themselves, and the team they support as well, by turning those clowns into security.

I am thrilled that was caught on camera. It should certainly be a bench minor for the home team, just like a penalty can be called for objects thrown on the ice during play.

Good idea...
Very good idea.
Of course, if we took incidents like this as seriously as the Italian football folks do, the Rangers would get about a $22k fine over the incident…
Italy: €15000 fine for laser in goalkeeper’s eyes
I need a snappy signature...
There’s nothing the home team can do to prevent it from happening initially. You can’t keep someone from bringing a pen into the arena.
The best you could hope for is that the ushers are lucky enough to see the fan doing it the first time, and then can get to them quickly and kick them out. Otherwise it’d be up to the fans around them.
I would advocate that, except that it would be a call to fans of visiting teams to sneak in laser pointers so that they could cause the home team to take a penalty…
Let's go Caps!

Yeah, I understand. But a fan doesn’t feel the pain of a fine, and does probably feel the anxiety when the team is down a man.
And obviously the arena bears some responsibility for finding and removing the person with the light.
