Do you really think Pronger would fit with the Caps? Am I the only one who’s glad GMGM didn’t pull a deal together to see Pronger in the Caps uniform this season?

IMO, he would be a good fit for our horrible blueline. But the asking price this summer was too much. Weren’t they asking for carlson, varly and a bunch of picks or something?

I’m glad GMGM didn’t give up what it would have taken to get Pronger, but he absolutely would help the Caps D. He’s not the fastest guy, but he never has been and he’s still been an elite Dman throughout his career.

However, I don’t care if the Caps are only giving up junk like Shamo and Erskine, I don’t want Pronger on the Caps now. That contract he has is horrid.

Of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst

by Killer_Carlson on Feb 13, 2010 1:46 PM EST up reply actions

The Flyers gave up a top-6 forward, a very promising D prospect, their 1st in 2009, their 1st in 2010 and a conditional 3rd. Consider the analog for our team – roughly Laich (although Lupul gets paid a lot more and is somewhat more productive, bear with me), one of Carlznerson, the first we used on Mackan and our upcoming first. I’m totally fine with not trading for Pronger for that price.

Besides the fact that Philly doesn’t want Washington’s garbage, Pronger’s contract is a disaster that Washington would want nothing to do with.

With Bourque back down to Hershey, what does that do to our 3rd and 4th lines? Is Laing back in — he who played on 4 minutes last time. (I seriously wonder if Laing had gotten hurt at Montreal. Otherwise, it looks pretty bad to get only 4 minutes of ice time and sit in the Press Box in favor of a Hershey callup.)

Ok so maybe I missed something, but the last time the Caps tried to send Bourque down to Hershey he had to pass through waivers (and we all know what happened after that). Since he’s being sent back down after being called up again, shouldn’t he have to go through waivers again?

no, Bourque was called up as an emergency injury replacement. That means he can go up and back down exempt from waivers.

That’s the honest truth. When we have moved Stecks and Bradley up to the third line for the playoffs, Fehr was moved down to the 4th line and Fehr is essentially wasted there. (Then, Fehr was injured and out for the rest of the playoffs anyhow.)

Fehr is another one of our 2nd line caliber players, of which we have so many.

Yea, he was not on my radar as far as a Caps pick-up and I kinda like Gordon at 3C. Steckel is fine there also. The Caps could use an upgrade at 2C since Flash has come back to Earth and Tkachuk is not a good fit IMO. Which leads us back to the near lack of 2C’s that are available.

by dlw66 on Feb 13, 2010 5:01 PM EST up reply actions

2C is tough. Not many teams want to give up a top 6 forward, and the ones that do want a lot back. 3C would be much easier to fill. A guy like Weight may even be able to do that. Koivu is probably the only guy that I can see that may be available that would look ok as our 2C, but if we got him we’d have a very small lineup down the middle until Steckel. I’m obviously less concerned about size than many others here, but you know that complaint would be raised.

hehe

I’m pretty sure thats what happened yesterday. Deal to NJ for Hamhuis didn’t go through ’cause “another” EC team jumped in….

When your game thread opens I’ll speak more on this. From everything I’m hearing Hamhuis to Washington is gaining steam, and thats not just from Japers’ Rink/On the Forecheck rosterbation.

Have you worn it? Send it back and say it’s defective or the experiment didn’t work out like you hoped.

"Where can you go from there? Where? ... Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?"

Man, I would l be immensely satisfied if we got Hamhuis + Santorelli. I know we rosterbated about this the other day, but remind me. Who do you prefer out of these two forwards … Flash or Fehr?

meet me in the GDT

I prefer Flash, but would “take” Fehr if we got a D-man back.
