On Monday night Anton Gustafsson was back on ice for the first time in two months. Gustafsson been back home in Sweden since mid-October when he told the Washington Capitals that he "at this point in my career I no longer enjoy playing hockey". That made the Washington Capitals suspend his contract immediately.
After avoiding nosy journalist for a month he finally talked to Karlskoga-Kuriren after his first practice on Monday night. Anton Gustafsson talks about being back on the ice for the first time in two months. "It felt good to be back on the ice again but I got tiered really fast. Two months is two months."
What his been doing
"I haven’t been doing anything really. I have just stayed inside and done a lot of thinking about what I would do if I’m no longer a hockey player.
About the future
“I’m going to practice with KHC a a couple of times then we will see If I can get back to that feeling of enjoying playing hockey again. But for me to make a "real" comeback I have to be sure my love for hockey is fully back. There is no point for me too make a comeback if don’t feel that joy again.”
thanks for the update, malin.
i’m looking over at the “related fanshots on japers’ rink,” and i’m sad i didn’t see his workout video before it was taken down.

More on the AnGus saga
Anton spent the last two months in Karlskoga living with his mom and in Sundsvall where his girlfriend lives. If he’s not going to continue to play hockey he will go back to school, because hockey has occupied most of his time he hasn’t properly finished high school yet. But he doesn’t regret focusing on hockey that was the right choice at the time.

The feeling of being tired of hockey has been building for a year and a lot of that has to do with being almost constantly injured.
Playing against the rules?
Anton has been suspended by the international hockey federation for contract violation.
“I don’t think I’m allowed to train with another club. If that’s the case they can always call me up and tell me how they feel about it. They want to make an example out of me – that you can’t just break your contract and I totally understand that. I belong to Washington and if I decide to continue to play hockey Washington has to agree to lend me out or cut me loose from the contract.”

I’m a little sad about Anton. I don’t see hockey as being his best option. He has good audio/video skills – maybe he should try to emulate Brett Leonhardt for a Swedish team.
AnGus as the svensk DJ Stretch. His exercise video was clever, well-edited, and nicely finished. I’m sorry he had to pull it down. I get the feeling he’s really more of an artist than a hockey player, and he would be smart to look in that direction. maybe he could even work for Tre Kronor in that capacity.
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
It seems to me that he maybe ought to try to get good enough for the SEL, rather than worry about the NHL. He seems like one of those all too familiar Like-Father-Like-Son deals where he had way, way too much hope and expectation thrust on him. I mean, the kid is a finely skilled player, he just needs to stay healthy. I hope he doesn’t make the NHL his end all be all, because he may be disappointed, but he doesn’t have to give up on a career in hockey.

whatever “it” is, I hope it all works out for him. Leaving the only sport you’ve ever know (when big things are projected for you) is a terrifying decision, and it takes a lot of guts to make. Going back is almost as scary.
no matter what the end result is, I hope he will be at peace with his decision and the path he takes.
