- Happy anniversary
MCIVerizon Center! But we need to talk. [Peerless] - Hooray! The Caps have their rugged veteran shutdown defender. Lots of free time now to fret about that whole second line center thing. [WaPo (Carrera), Ted's Take]

SI’s interpretation on Goalwavedoffgate(which we should call every controversey now Something-gate) would be highly interesting if:
It was 1999.
I can’t recall another time since then a ref called goalie interference by reason of being in the paint, and no contact.
Bruce Boudreau when asked about Brooks Laich's return to the lineup, he said: "He just adds another dimension to our team. If it was puzzle, he just fits that thing. He completes us."
Brooks Laich completing everything from teams to tires and everything in between.
I’m totally over it. Spilled milk.
Obviously, it exposed a pretty silly rule – that such a critical decision can’t be reviewed by the folks in Toronto. I would think most of us would take an NFL-style (since all rules in all sports must be compared to the NFL!) 30 second commercial break and 30 seconds of slow-motion footage of the play. It’s almost like a mini-game.. people dig the drama.
But the Caps took two of four points on a 48-hour road swing, nobody was seriously hurt, and I got a root beer float. It’s all good.

This…should we have deserved at least a point in that game? Probably. But it’s water under the bridge. Raycroft played very well but we didn’t take advantage of enough chances. A shame we wasted Knubs’ goal because it was a massive one for him and the team for all of 22 seconds.
Everything ends badly...otherwise it wouldn't end.

Put Dallas behind us, doesn’t matter anymore. Tonight should be a good test Atlanta has played us tough. Hoping Varly continues his strong run of play and we do a “better” job of drawing penalties while not taking any.
It’s gotten to the point where I’d really really like Ovie to pot a couple tonight to break that slump.
Everything ends badly...otherwise it wouldn't end.
I agree. I love that he is getting assists, but I would love to see an Ovi goal/goal celebration!
I like Laich, but I <3 Green

According to the data I’ve dug up, I don’t think its missing any,
Varly against ATL is 4-0 in 5 games (replacing JT60 in one game though he was not credited with the loss) with a 2.47gaa and .898s% in his career.
Neuvi is 5-1with a 3.21 gaa and .892 s% in his career.
Bruce Boudreau when asked about Brooks Laich's return to the lineup, he said: "He just adds another dimension to our team. If it was puzzle, he just fits that thing. He completes us."
Brooks Laich completing everything from teams to tires and everything in between.
High scoring games…although we owned Atlanta for awhile and this Atlanta team in no way resembles that one.

For the most part yes, though both goalies had atleast 1 game to inflate their stats positively. Like the 8-1 42 save game Nuevi had, and Varly had similiar.
Though both goalies combined are 9-1 combined against ATL.

i worry about varly in net against the Thrash.
our past games against them have involved them getting scoring streaks, something which varly has not handled well in the past. if they put a few up in a row here, I fear varly is going to struggle
If you’re worrying about him in goal, I’d be more worried about Big Buff taking a run at him, like he did Neuvirth. Brittlegroin wouldn’t survive that.
"It's always good to have vikings."
Pretty sure that’s what Scott Hannan was acquired for. Big minutes stay-at-home defender, keep a close eye on crease and goaltender.

I thought he was acquired to take care of that OTHER groin problem we have…Tom Poti :(

As long as they’re on the ice at the same time, no prob. I hope.
That run he took at Neuvy was from clear down the other end of the ice.

Erskine will be in the lineup as well to handle any bs.

Oh, booo. What, he didn’t raise enough money to keep it? (I’m guessing the real answer is the wife said it needed to go.)
"It's always good to have vikings."
Its not a conern for me. There are a number of caps on the team that will go after him for another run.
That and the way Ref’s are, Varly actually gets injured Buff gets thrown a gamer and suspension. BUT that’s considering, ya know, the NHL is consistent and can be predicted on.
But there’s Brads, Chimer, Erksine, potentially Hannan(paired with Erksine most likely) and even Ovie.

Any word on whether Kane is playing tonight?
Anyone have thoughts on PK Subban getting scratched again?

scratched again? bloom is off the rose I guess. On the other hand maybe it will be good for him to be able to take a step back and refocus.

Oh whatevs he already had a semi bad stretch earlier in the year. I notice it with Green as well (although with Greenie it might be because he’s not 100%) but Carlson’s major learning curve right now seems to be when to jump into the play offensively and when to be conservative. So far so good.

Pierre Lebrun said in his chat that he thinks Subban is a bit ahead of Carlson. Umm, no.
My blog and Twitter, featuring coverage of the most unpredictable team in the NHL and where we defend Mike Green, Alex Ovechkin, and Alexander Semin until the bitter end. That is to say, when someone tries to call BS on the Corsi numbers.

Subban gets all kinds of press because he isn’t bad, and he’s Canadian who plays for the Canadiens team.
Who would of figured the american kid being an underdog.

Wow, PK has been a healthy scratch? If that doesn’t humble him then nothing will.
Just trying to capture the spirit of the thing...
They said it was a HS, but right now I’m wondering if he isn’t banged up a little. If it really is a two game HS then that’s not great news for him. Normally you’d think they’d give him one game in the press box and then get him back out there to see if the message was received. Then again, maybe Yannic Weber was just too good last game for them to sit him again.
Lockout talk makes me want to go out and choke an old lady - Elliotte Friedman
You have a point there, F&B.
I recall this past spring when Green was a “healthy” scratch so he could get a rest. But then he was scratched the next game too. (It then turned out that Green was dealing with wrist issues.)
Rocking the Red for the Caps since 1975. Rocking the Red on additional fronts as well.
Evander’s knee is still very questionable. Coach sez his “explosiveness” is lacking.

Sucks for him, but I’ll take it. He’s been feasting on us this year.
Lockout talk makes me want to go out and choke an old lady - Elliotte Friedman
Mixed feelings about that. I’ll take the advantage for one game, but there’s a chance we could see this team in the playoffs. Better to solve him now than have to worry about it in April.
"It's always good to have vikings."
Just play, you know, defense against him. All due respect to a guy that puts up 14 goals a game against the Capitals but he’s not that great that you need to figure him out.
I will say he’s starting to become a bit underrated. He was just the guy hero who beat the snot out of Cooke but in a few years he’s going to establish himself as something of a name if he can improve his defensive play.

All I ever ask is that they be equally bad to both teams. The refs working the game last Sunday made it to that point in the third period, I believe.

Hershey is having Teddy Bear toss night. So, does that mean you toss a bear instead of hats for a hat trick? I admit I haven’t looked at their website yet, or I might know the answer to that.

toss your teddy bear after the Bears score their first goal. the bears are donated to charity.

Tonight is also the Stingrays’ TBT night.
Cody’s team had theirs last night. Cody had about a million SOG, but couldn’t get one through, and the Broncos went scoreless. On TBT night.

nope, no snow. We might see flurries tonight, but in the city itself, it’s probably not going to be cold enough. Nothing will stick, it’s been too warm.
