Man, that PK Subban is kind of a punk isn’t he?
I mean, the whole “standing over Chimmer” thing was pretty bad, and then I saw him blatantly punch poor Eric Fehr behind the Habs net (Fehr also took a punch from John Erskine later in a scrum), and he cost the Habs that second goal by trying to take 25’s head off in the neutral zone.
If you’re a Habs fan, how can you watch the guy without wanting to tear your hair out every night? I know he’s a young guy, but at what point do you decide the hassle he brings every night isn’t worth whatever upside he has? That’s a veteran club there, and if he’s not listening to them, or his coaches, what else can you do?

I didn’t notice it much last year in the playoffs, but from what I’ve seen/heard about him from this season, he may be trying too hard to build his rep.
Or perhaps just going about it the wrong way.

You gotta run to a window and say: "Hey, these floors are dirty as hell, and I'm not gonna take it anymore!"
Subban would have done well last night to look at how #74 comports himself on the ice. You don’t earn respect by talking smack, you get it by acting like a professional. One rookie did that last night, the other not so much.
This isn’t the NFL, you don’t puff your chest out and act like cock of the walk when you’re a freaking rookie. In fact, you don’t do that EVER. Shut your mouth and do your job, and maybe once you’ve got a couple hundred games under your belt you can chirp the reigning league MVP.
You had me at no problem.
Best part of that story
Losers of six of their last eight, Subban’s sublime skating skills could give the Canadiens the jump that they’re looking for.
That alliteration is gold.

If we hadn’t been winning, I’ve got to believe that Erskine or Hendricks wouldn’t knocked his block off. But you don’t fight when you don’t have to, and we were playing a tight defensive game with a lead.

Both have waaaay more fighting experience than Subban, and Erskine is a legit heavyweight. Subban is more athletic, but my money would still be on Erskine any day of the week. Hendricks might have trouble, though.

If the Caps were up 4 or 5, they would have gone after him with more fervor. 2-0 isn’t that safe a lead to be that aggressive, and Subban had his [Avery] planted on the bench after the empty net goal.

I dunno, I think I’d be pretty happy putting one of my grinders in the box for 5 minutes if it took away one of the other team’s offensive defensemen in a game where there’s a 2-goal lead. Heck, I’d be pretty happy with that no matter what the score.

Even if you don’t end up with an instigator penalty when Subban tries not to answer the bell, you give the other team a chance to build momentum and get pumped up if Subban does well in the fight.
You had me at no problem.
He wouldn’t do well – not if it was Erskine, Hendricks, or even Chimera. Subban has yet to do even decently in a NHL fight.
There is no problem a hammer cannot either fix or make irrelevant.
If Subban drops the gloves. If he’s aware of the game situation.. he goads the enforecer into the fight and then turtles up to get the power play.

He can do what he wants to do… if he plays like he did last night he’s going to get his head knocked off by someone without as much game awareness as the Caps players seem to have (Carcillo, Downie or Kris Barch for example).
What I think was the best way to get back at Subban for his antics was Green scoring his goal from about the spot where Subban should have been when playing his position on the ice. Subban was 40-50 feet behind Green racing to get back from center ice and was completely out of position. Green’s shot came from a spot where Subban should have been. If Subban is in position, Green doesn’t get the shot off from that close, and likely Price makes a save (he played very well for Montreal last night…)
If enough teams take advantage of the holes in his game, then the rest of the NHL won’t have to deal with his crap anymore… he’ll be riding the busses from Hamilton to Rochester….

I feel like he’s going to end up like Pronger in Hartford. He battled a ton of “maturity issues” there and being shipped out of town was the best thing that could have happened for both franchises.

I haven’t heard anything about problems in the room, I don’t think it’s an issue this year.
Also haven’t heard anything about Subban not being liked, his teammates have all stuck up for him in the media when necessary. I’m not a huge fan of his but I think generally he’s a good kid, just needs to learn how things work in the NHL. As we’ve said before, Montreal’s a tough place to break into the NHL.

Ryan Kesler and the Caps PP
I’ve been fortunate enough this season to catch a few Canucks games and watch Ryan Kesler play. He’s been having a whale of a year. He’s scored 34 points so far, and his defensive play has been as strong as always. Add to the fact, he’s shown a newfound discipline and chirping and retaliating a lot less. If the season ended today, I’d hand him the Selke.
As we all know the Caps PP has been sloppy and undisciplined of late. At times, it seems helter -skelter with no method to the madness. Other times, guys seem to pass around for a minute and a half until we set up for one Mike Green point shot which inevitably gets blocked. Compare this to Vancouver, where coach Alain Vigneault has moved Kesler to the first PP unit with the Sedin twins and the results have been admirable. The Nucks are 2nd in the league with a 24.1% PP rate. Kesler plays the Laich role on Washington’s PP getting the scraps in the crease as the Sedins do that crazy kinetic twin playmaking stuff that they do on the PP. With Kesler an impressive playmaker on his own at times, the efficiency is doubled.
I think the solution for the Caps is (barring the fact that the Nucks won’t be folding any time soon and we can’t pick Kesler from the rotting carcass) to study some Nucks film and learn. Also I would take Laich off the first PP unit. Yes he was doing great last year there. But these days I am sick of watching his signature trying to score with the virgin with her thighs glued shut move. If Boudreau can show some patience, I would move Fehr to the first unit. He’s been shooting a ton of late, and probably would have more to show for it if clocks didn’t expire and posts stayed in place. He also is proficient in getting plenty of goals from five feet or less in. He has the size to be a nuisance. I like Knubs out there on the 2nd unit, but I think putting Fehr in the Kesler role would be most beneficial for the Caps for now.

Regarding the Caps’ PP:
1. It would appear that much like the Caps’ ES play, many teams have figured out the Caps’ PP “recipe” and have been noticeably better at defending it. The difference is that while BB has made a visible attempt to change the way his team plays ES, I don’t see that when the PP starts. I don’t think radical changes are in order necessarily, but it’s obvious that this current system simply isn’t working as it has in the past. I think what I’d like to see, as long as the PP is under-achieving, is a little more variety out there — maybe give some of the hard-working guys who are playing well some minutes on the extra-man unit…and not just 30 seconds of second unit time, but a legitimate shot at first unit PP unit time. As long as the regulars aren’t getting it done, why not try to make some subtle changes, anything to possibly throw off the PK of the other teams?
2. Continuing with the point above, I can’t believe how many times I see the top line trio on the ice draw a penalty, and then stay right out there to play a minute or more on the PP unit. What’s the use of having guys out there with a man advantage if they are dog tired?
3. Ovechkin on the point. This has been discussed ad nauseum. Frankly, it seems to me that putting Ovi on the point during the PP serves one huge purpose…to allow him to stay on the ice longer. Is this true? Hell if I know, but it seems to me that by staying back on the blue line, he has to ultimately skate less, which makes it easier for him to stay out the entire duration of the PP. It doesn’t help that between he and Green, it seems that too many pucks get by into the neutral zone causing a reset and wasting precious seconds. I’d personally at least like to see a few games where BB tries to move Ovi up to his natural LW position, and get him off the ice before the PP expires so that he can send the first unit out quickly again after the PP has expired (assuming it hasn’t ended due to a goal) to carry the momentum into ES play and force the opposition to keep their top defenders on the longer, and wear them out quicker.
I don’t know — I’ve never coached hockey, and these ideas might be either obvious or just plain stupid, but it seems to me that if things ain’t working, it can’t hurt to shake things up a bit.

Yeah I’d agree. It wasn’t mindless “fire BB” chatter ‘round here but valid questions of whether he had lost their confidence or not, whether the firing would help or hurt the team in the long run, and who would be a valid replacement if he were fired. I wasn’t on the “get rid of the coach” bandwagon, but I found the discussions extremely informative, especially in regards to BB’s strengths and weaknesses.
Alright, confess-how many goals are you going to make this year?

Keeping Ovi on the point also provides an accurate, “seeing eye” shot from up top through traffic. At least it did last year. But teams aren’t giving him a lane to shoot anymore.
I’ve always wondered why the Caps don’t employ Philly’s method: Send someone without the puck to cut through the box from one side to another, while cycling the puck on the perimeter. It causes PKers to react by watching or moving towards that player, leaving an opening in the slot for a one-timer.
"I would feed them lefts until I was pretty much tired of doing it." - Alan May, JRR, 10.16.2010
I’ve heard many hockey coaches think by the same process of “keep your best players on the ice as much as possible”
I don’t necessarily agree w/ the philosophy all of the time, but I believe it’s what BB is thinking. I feel like 52 and some extremely looong shifts last night.
For sure. He played…what…35 mins against the Pens? I don’t mind the “get your best players out there,” but no wonder Green disappears come playoff time. Not the only reason of course, but he’s playing a lot and that has to take a toll on the body eventually.

Usually I’d agree, but the 34 minutes he played against Pittsburgh was partly due to the fact that Poti left early in the first. Had Poti not gotten injured that number would probably have been lower…

And let’s not forget how many (fruitless) powerplays we had early in that game. He logged a ton of time in the first period just from that.

He totally did get ridiculous playing time, but Hannan also picked up a lot of the slack. He has only had 3 games over 20 minutes TOI since he got to the Caps (he has 19:10 TOI/G) , and the other two were the Toronto game Schultz got hurt in (23:15) and Carolina (23:37). Carlson had barely more TOI than usual (22:03 is his average) and Alzner had about 2 minutes more (18:57 is his average).
There is no problem a hammer cannot either fix or make irrelevant.
IIRC, Hannan was paired with Green that night, so it makes some sense that he’d be out on the ice more. Alzner obviously got a jump, but I’m surprised that BB didn’t have the Carlson-Alzner pair out more (possibly due to the fact that the Caps were playing from behind) once Poti was down.

Beagle is great for the Caps not just because of what he brings on the ice, but the other bottom six forwards now have to be on notice. If you don’t forecheck hard and do the little things, there’s competition now.
I really liked how the bottom six took the body in the O-zone last night. More Pittsburgh-like than we’d seen in a while.
The Kolzilla PR department has advised me to post a link to my work at Inside Hockey, so here it is.
www.Insidehockey.com
Reason number 10,000 why we’re lucky to have Mike Vogel in the org:
Caps winger Matt Hendricks picked up a secondary assist on the play, even though he was comfortably seated on the Washington bench by the time the red light went on. Hendricks skated the puck out of the Caps’ end to the red line, noticed the impending line change, waited, waited, and then perfectly timed and placed his dump-in to coincide with Beagle gaining the zone with speed.
With a little help from linemate Eric Fehr, Beagle did the rest.
"Hendy made the smartest dump," says Beagle. "He waited, waited and waited and he knew his linemates were changing. He threw it in the corner that I was heading for. It all started with Hendy. That dump was a really smart play."
That’s as good a secondary assist as you’ll see, and it wasn’t accompanied by a "plus-1."
That’s a really nice take on the play, and I don’t know of all that many writers who would have taken their recap in that direction.
Atta dinnin stick a who!
You don’t even notice that kind of stuff on TV. All you saw was Beagle chasing after a loose puck and making a nice play. Glad Hendricks got some credit for starting it off.

I definitely saw the hesitation on that play, and, at first, I was wondering what he was waiting for until I saw Beagle streak into the zone.
Speaking of Beagle, kid’s both got hands and speed, and I’d have never guessed. As soon as they teach him how to think like an NHLer every night, he’ll be a great bottom-6’er.

Nice. I remembered Beagle pointing out Hendricks started the play with a smart dump but I didn’t realize how long he had waited with the puck before making it. I also found interesting how the Bears played this very same aggressive PK last season too. I like the two clubs learning and adopting from each other.

Remember, there’s only a hour, and it’s split between the teams. Not to mention how much they’re going to focus on the Pens game from Thursday. It would be nice to see them give some love to a first career goal against a future Hall of Famer, but the guy’s not even on the team at the moment.

I’ve gotten to watch both episodes, now, and honestly, I’ve found the Penguins to be more ‘endearing’, or whatever you want to call it – but at the same time, it almost seems like thats what HBO wants you to think, doesn’t it?

Language barrier’s big, I think. Obviously, the losing streak was big. But the Caps have gotten plenty of endearing. Green comes off as the absolute lunatic he is. Hendricks was great. But in general, the Caps are just quieter. Think of Backstrom skating with the little kids — he’s just kind of shy and mumbling. Which is endearing in its own way.

I agree, I meant more that HBO is showing Pittsburgh in more positions where they’d be endearing, such as at home, or with children, etc. They’ve shown Pens’ kids quite often, and I know at least a few Caps have to have children, right?
To the Caps’ credit, though, I think much higher of Mike Green than I did before the series started, and like you said, Backstrom and Hendricks are quite personable in their own way.

I love the way he skates. He makes it look so effortless, and moves so smoothly. Which makes it even funnier when he blows a tire.
I am not much of a skater, but I had a fairly strong skater explain to me that he is able to move like he does because he skates on the edge, and thus has to have his skates very very sharp, and makes it even easier to lose an edge and as Joe B puts it “blow a tire”.

Don’t forget Semin. It’d be fun to see him inexplicably wipe out, like after his shootout attempt against Pitt. Or how about the time he wiped out into Neuvy and scored a goal on him, and then he looked sheepishly at Neuvy while they were both in the net? Semin and Green could play some pretty hockey together and maybe even choreograph their wipeouts.

It’s the family stuff. Little Adams calling his dad Craig instead of daddy and then saying his neck hurt. Priceless.
Now I want some of that background family anecdotes to show the Caps are more than a struggling team. They have the two stars stuff out of the way, especially Crosby’s. It’s time to show more of the Caps camaraderie and chemistry. Both locker rooms are tight and strong and filled with friendships and good chemistry but so far on the Caps side we’ve only seen frustration, frustration, and more frustration capped by fist bumping joy.

I’d disagree. They’ve shown home life of Ovi, Blysma, and half the Pens team. The only thing you’ve seen of Crosby is at the rink stuff. Not that I’m a fan, but it’s glaring to me how they haven’t shown anything about Crosby’s life outside of the team. I understand shyness, but it looks like he’s controlling what is being shown, and wasn’t the point of 24/7 to show an “unfiltered, all access pass” to them?

Knowing that he’s at least mildly superstitious (despite, perhaps, claims otherwise) and knowing the point streak he’s amidst, I’m not surprised at all that he wouldn’t want a AV Club entourage messing with his mojo.
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.

You know what I haven’t seen yet from Crosby? Anything that stands out as “leadership.” We saw Ovechkin talking with the refs and trying to fire up his team; we saw Knuble give an impassioned locker room speech, and yet no vocal leadership from a guy who won an award for it. Odd.
I think leading by example can’t be dismissed, and can you really fault Sid for anything in that regard this year?

A year earlier, Conklin played the whole game, Huet started and was yanked for stinking (Khabibulin finished up).

off topic but can I ask why you use numbers in the subject line instead of something else? For some reason on my droid when I go to click on the numbers to collapse your pics, it picks up the numbers and tries to dial them instead of just collapsing as it would if something else is used on the subject line. I should probably be smart enough to change that but I’m not so I was just curious why you choose numbers (never noticed it before until I tried some game day threads on my phone).

This could be an advantage I guess if you look up a phone number on a webpage and tap on it and it dials. I’ve never tried that because whenever I look up a phone number I’m with someone else and read it off to them to call. I’ll have to try tapping it next time and see if I can make it dial a number when I want it to. I have yet to figure out how to turn that off so I can collapse YLM pics.

I actually think it’s a very fair question. Admittedly, I don’t know enough about the Xs and Os of hockey to gauge when the Caps started this transition or whether they truly have the personnel to execute in a way that gives them the best chance of winning in the playoffs. I agree that it’s probably worth a shot but I don’t see how you can dismiss the writer’s premise out of hand.
Cody Eakin
It seems like the WJC is really improving his reputation and exposure to those who haven’t heard of him or know much about him. Do you guys think he’s in the team’s plans for the future, or is his value increasing enough where he can be a part of a trade that brings in a big time player at the deadline?
by JimCareyFanClub on Dec 29, 2010 11:55 AM EST reply actions
They’re high on him — he’s been one of the last cuts in training camp the last couple of years. Hard worker and good energy, but it wouldn’t surprise me if his transition to the pro game is difficult and he takes a few years to make it up to the NHL. Still, he may well have what it takes to stick in the league. I like him.

He didn’t do badly at the AHL level when he got chances during the Bears’ Cup run, even being young and new. I’m sure there’ll be some hiccups, but I think I see him coming along faster than that. (But I’m hardly an unbiased observer when it comes to Squeaks.)

or is his value increasing enough where he can be a part of a trade that brings in a big time player at the deadline?
This has been my theory for a long time. The Capitals are actually pretty set down the middle if Johansson or Perreault improves to the point that either is a viable second line center; the other can play a third-line role. I have the feeling Eakin gets packaged along with some draft picks and ends up bringing in a rent-a-center.
We know the Caps have the prospects to trade. We know McPhee is willing to tinker. Now it’s a matter of finding a legit 2C on the market. I can’t think of any right now.
The Kolzilla PR department has advised me to post a link to my work at Inside Hockey, so here it is.

I don’t think McPhee would trade all of Cody’s potential for just a rent-a-center though.

What about McPhee’s reluctance to give up anyone with potential for a difference making player at the deadline? Granted, the Caps prospects have either been guys like Varly, Neuvy, RAHJC, Alzner that are major pieces to the future, or guys like MP85, A Gordon, Beagle that are nice players but guys that won’t headline a big time deal. A guy like Eakin seems to be a guy that the Caps could be fine without, but has enough value to be part of a deal for a solid veteran player.

Are there really any “difference making players” available at the deadline any more (at least ones that would fit what the Caps need)? Everyone’s so close in the standings nowadays that no one’s going to blow the whole thing up to trade a significant guy.

I re-read that sentence after I wrote it and didn’t like it haha. That being said, after the Stars decided to win games this year and as a result made Brad Richards untradeable, no there isn’t . The situation the Caps are in, there’s no need to go for broke this year. They aren’t up against the Cap, they do a good job of extending their role players at team friendly deals, and the 1 year deal for Semin allows the team to go in a few different directions at season’s end.
That being said, there will be a time where when GMGM will need to move prospects for one last effort to win with this group, it’s just something that happens with a Salary Cap in place, the younger players will develop and require higher salaries. At that point, do you trust that McPhee will pull the trigger a move prospects for a veteran player that will help give the team a Cup?

True, but that was pre-lockout where it was nice to have young talent, but not nearly as important as it is today. I have faith in GMGM, so I don’t want it to seem like I don’t, I’m just curious to see if anyone else think he may over-value his prospects or hesitate when it comes to dealing them for veteran players.

I think that was a GMDP deal, not GMGM. Also if he is as talented as many here think, I’d think you’d want to keep him and get as much production out of him as you can at a lower salary.
you’re right, it was Polie. I was just looking back at the Carey trade Monday to see which GM made it.

If anything, I’d argue that this is the ONE THING the Caps fail to do with regularity. They basically bend over and say “go to town, loyal soldier.”
This game is all about overcoming diversity.
Agreed. $1.5M for Erskine is not team friendly, and neither is Steckel’s $1.1M. Poti’s might still be a bit high, but it’s lower than last year. Other than those, I think they’ve done pretty well – Fehr, Schultz, Green, Backstrom, Ovie, and Neuvy were all good moves.

And yet Cody has played mostly wing when he’s not playing for the Broncos. He was left wing in Hershey, and is playing left wing for Canada. Albeit a defensively responsible LW who can take faceoffs.

I would totally not be surprised if Cody gets some time today at D for Canada. They lost one D-man to suspension and two more to injury, leaving them with 3 (or I guess four, if they brought 7 to the tourney). Cody knows how to play both ends of the ice and is a go-to penalty killer.

I was amused by the use of the word “cretins”. I’m wondering if the reporter thought there was something else behind the booing.
It seems like many of our terms for stupid come from the French language including “cretin”. The terms “idiot”, “imbecile”, and “moron” are also words of French origin. Then again, it was a French man named Benet who had designed intelligence tests for school kids to identify those kids who had trouble learning and needed special help. Yet, the term ‘cretin’ had not entered the intelligence test terminology.

If Poti is healthy, I would like to sit Hanaan and play 52-55, 74-27, 4-3. Erskine deserves to be in over the Rent-a-D for this game. If Poti is injured then hopefully Sloan gets a good seat in the stands.
Forwards are a little less tricky since Boyd Gordon and Bradley still out and not even practicing. If the choice comes down to DJ King or an AHLer I would rather see A. Gordon or even Beagle playing winger on the 4th line.

notorious cherry picker. I’ll try to say this without coming off as a bitter, bash-happy Caps fan, but while the rest of the team is playing D and trying to get the puck out of their own zone, Sid is usually setting himself up on the opposing blue line, waiting for someone to give it to him.

Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Letang, Goligoski, Michalek, Martin, Orpik (I’m a noted Orpik-hater, but as a 5D he’s pretty fuckin’ good), and Fleury are all signed long-term or RFA. The only three of those deals I wouldn’t take in a vacuum (criteria as whether they produce above their contract level) are the Fleury, Malkin (pending injury recovery) and Orpik. The rest of them are pretty good value and some of them (Letang, Crosby) are outrageously good deals. The only bad overpay is Fleury, but they’re squeezing a ton of surplus out of the rest of those contracts.

As you pretty much noted, is do you really want to be paying a 5th D 3.75 per year? He is a great 5th D, but I’m not sure teams in general wouldn’t be better served putting that money elsewhere, like wings maybe. The third pairing can only see so much time, and at what point is it worth downgrading the 3rd pairing a bit to improve other areas of weakness?

I think he’s their 5th best D, but he skates more than any other Pens D at 5v5 against the toughest competition on the team by all three metrics on BtN. If the choice is better D or better wings, I’m generally taking D if the Cs are good enough to drive scoring by themselves (they are).

D is definitely more important than wings, I’ll never disagree on that. But I’ve got to think that at some point overpaying the bottom pairing of D isn’t as useful as paying normal market price for 3rd D pairing and upgrading the wings. Especially with a top 4 of Letang, Martin and Michalek locked down for a long time.
(And this is all assuming that he gets played where his talent level should dictate he gets player, which you and I are in agreement that he doesn’t.)

If it were not-the-Penguins we were talking about, I’d agree with you. But they’re getting more than enough O from their Cs and D. Wings produce offense more than anything else – they don’t have as much defensive impact as Cs do and they certainly don’t have as much defensive impact as D do. For a team like the Caps, who only get significant O contributions from a couple of D and one C, the wing position is a lot more important.
The Pens problem last season was that they were giving up too many goals. The two most effective ways to address that are better goaltending and better D; they’re stuck with Fleury, so signing D had to be the way to go. They’re not a team that struggles generating shot-volume differential, so percentages were the way to move, and D have the largest effect on those in their own end. I’d rather pay a guy like Orpik 3.75 (although I do think that’s an overpayment) than a guy like Slava Kozlov.

That’s fair, and I can’t rightly criticize the Pens’ model as it has worked. This was just more of a general statement of preferred team building methods, not necessarily applicable to the Pens (though I stuck with Orpik for continuity of discussion).

The problem with what you’re saying is that the “Pens Model” isn’t really a model, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime concurrence of back to back to back high picks that netted them three outstanding centers. Most teams, like the Hawks, Caps, Bruins, Flyers, etc. will never have the likes of Crosby/Malkin/Staal, and will have to supplement their offense from the wing.
This game is all about overcoming diversity.
If you meant to respond to SME, I’m with you. Otherwise, I’m confused.
I’m just glad that they picked Staal instead of Toews or Backstrom.

It was a bit of both. I just was trying to point out that if I were an NHL GM and someone said to me: “build yourself on the Pittsburgh model” I’d tell them to go Boudreau themselves because what Pittsburgh did was 90% luck. Even then, I don’t think they really figured out their model until they won the Cup sans Hossa and Shero realized that the “stud winger” wasn’t really necessary. Before that though, he tried hard to re-sign both Malone and Hossa.
I started thinking about all this after posting, and I thought about team construction philosophies and probability and it occurred to me that what Poile does in Nashville (drafting TONS of D-men) is completely back-ass-ward and literally guarantees that the Preds will never win a Cup. Essentially, you’ll always be overstocked on a position where you’ve only got 6-7 NHL slots (instead of 12-14), and it’s a position that takes longer to develop, so you’re “paying” for developmental time then watching as guys reach their prime and leave. Far better to draft young forwards who contribute sooner and decline faster as well.
This game is all about overcoming diversity.
I feel like we’re all in agreement. And all have to get the last word…

I would not have liked living in a world where Knuble had a waddle bird on his jersey. Red goes so much better with his skin tone.
Pledge Drive 2010-2011: SO KIDS CAN!! Help build a playground
Help. In a hotel with no HBO. Anyone have a stream that might be iPhone friendly? If not, would y’all mind not talking about it until I get a chance to watch it? Kthanks.

I assume there will be a 24/7 Episode 3 thread and most conversation will stay there. Spoiler: Bruce says “fuck.” repeatedly. Caps win games. Much fist pumping abounds.
also, there’s usually a stream link posted in the thread, hopefully it’s iPhone friendly.

Grubauer pulled again after giving up four goals to the Finns. :(
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
I haven’t been able to watch any of their games; is he individually playing like shit or is Germany just really overmatched?
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.
the Post now had this strange little “24/7” random quote generator, so you can re-live all your favorite moments. The first quote I got? “Well, he probably has sensitive skin, no?” Money.

Anyone staying at the Westin in Pitt?
@jwaltonhockey Room keys at the Westin have either Ovie or Sidney on them this week. Thankfully, the guy wearing Red, White and Blue is on mine.

Could it be part of the WC budget?
If not, we know Hershey management will occasionally splurge, i.e. flying to Texas in the playoffs.
"It's always good to have vikings."
Yes, I know Hershey’s management approaches things differently than other AHL teams, I was still surprised when I first read that comment. They have flown the team for more than just Texas in the finals; and for Milwaukee and Winnipeg games in the finals, they flew family out, too. They flew to Charlotte earlier this season, too.
Local Pittsburgh weather guy (channel 4) ups the ante to 70% chance of rain on Saturday. Probably guarantees no rain.
