He put up five against Atlanta back at the start of the losing streak, and was subsequently a healthy scratch against Toronto. He put up six against Florida the next game, five of which came in the first period, and was subsequently demoted to the fourth line in the third.

I have to wonder what his game last night will do to his spot in the lineup. I’m guessing he’ll be a healthy scratch again.

If it was just the 7 shots, then I’d agree with you. But the fact that one of those shots hit the twine, I think he’ll stay in the lineup. Where he’ll play will depend on if Semin returns to the lineup (Per Corey, he’s skating today at the optional practice).

Technically two shots hit the twine, one was just a second too late.

I have very few bad things to say about Boudreau, even with the recent slump, but the seeming disconnect between player performance and the way he rewards some of them has always somewhat disturbed me. Flash getting consistent time on the second line and PP despite not performing well enough to deserve it was obviously the best example of that, but I’ve always hated that Eric Fehr was basically the opposite of that. I was very happy to see him up on the top line on Saturday, and even happier to see it produce results.

Quality of shots and play away from the puck certainly had something to do with those demotions.

Bombardment with payoff was good to see.

Let’s hope the ugly goal gets him going again, rather than being just a little flash in a run of sludge.

He’s kind of a sneaky little you know what and it seemed to coalesce nicely up on the 1st.

I looked pretty good working on the top line. I’d like to see him get a few games up there. Maybe a tryout for next year.

unfair.

Ah, but we covered that. It is a statistical fact. You can argue the circumstances, the surrounding cast, etc, conditions, bias in personnel management, but ultimately the stat itself is true.

Well before I heard Fehr won’t be playing due to a death in the family, I was going to say I would be perfectly fine with BB sticking with a top line of 8-19-16 for a few games and sticking Semin back on the 2nd line with Laich… even with Ovi not playing like Ovi, those would be two pretty formidable lines to stick out there.

Knuble would be the odd man out, and he hasn’t done all that much to make me think he shouldn’t try the third line… what do you guys think?

Warning: I started watching hockey in 2007. So, yeah. Heh.

by Laich Button on Dec 20, 2010 3:24 PM EST reply actions

Knuble needs to play with good players to produce. If you put him on the third line, that’s fine in that it will limit his minutes and keep him fresher (perhaps for the PP), but don’t expect much production there. I still think his best fit is on the top line, maybe second line.

by J.P. on Dec 20, 2010 3:26 PM EST up reply actions

Keeping Knuble’s legs fresh for the spring would be nice, also giving Fehr an opportunity. Knubs probably won’t be around next year, someone’s going to need to be on that line to muck it up in front of the next.

Fehr seems to engage in pushing and shoving after the play, usually giving a great disgusted look to the other player. I just wish he would play more with that disgusted, pushing and shoving attitude.

by Upstate NY on Dec 20, 2010 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

But now it looks like neither Semin nor Fehr will be available for tomorrow’s game. Hence, Knuble moves back to the 1st line. And who gets the 2RW slot? The most logical person is Andrew Gordon.

Now that Flash is gone, looks like Fehr’s gonna’ be the one under a microscope now :)

Speaking of Flash: He’s the second star of the week. 11 pts in 9 games with CO.

Good for him.

If I’m remembering correctly most of these weren’t perimeter shots either (shocking, I know). I’d be interested in looking at the official shot chart though if anyone has a quick link.

by Alex Reed on Dec 20, 2010 4:59 PM EST reply actions

I didn’t think Fehr’s problem was perimeter shots. Admittedly, he is very streaky and may have a long dry spell but has had some scoring streaks in his career as well.

Off topic but does anyone know the song that was in 24/7 after they lost to Colorado? Here’s a link to the first episode, it’s around the 43 minute mark.

Eric Fehr is old news. Versus says that this Thursday is Crosby vs. Ovechkin! There was no mention of their teammates so I’m not quite sure what to make of it.
