A First Look at a Winter Classic Weather Forecast
With January 1 just two weeks away, today brings us some of our first glimpses of what the weather might look like in Pittsburgh for the Winter Classic. Per MyForecast.com (above), we may be in for "[a]n icy mix changing to snow," the first part of which could certainly be somewhat troublesome. AccuWeather.com, however, isn't calling for any afternoon precipitation just yet. Stay tuned, as they say.
The two forecasts do agree on one thing, though: high temperatures of 36 degrees, which is normal. Well, normal for outdoors in Pittsburgh on New Year's Day, anyway - not necessarily normal for an NHL hockey game.

So I’ll have to bring two flasks in instead of just the one, gotcha.

Indeed. And who’s gonna need to spend money on souvenirs and other memorabilia when we’ll all have pneumonia by which to remember the game?

Already have my new jersey to wear at the game, hopefully I can keep the impulse buying to the minimum.

Keep that fight strap tied down. So the plan is eight layers with the jersey on top? Need to start planning my gear. Definitely getting the old school caps knit hat that Backs was wearing at the outdoor skate last week.0

diiirty. got me an Ovy Jersey. I figured since i didnt want an ovechkin caps home jersey (dime a dozen) Id go with the winter classic one for him. Still debating who to get on the Home jersey. When i trigger an away/alternate jersey im gonna go with Green or Backstrom.

I’ll see what happens at Christmas. I asked my husband what Winter Classic jersey he wanted and he asked for Backstrom. I asked him to get me an Ovi Winter Classic jersey.
He has a “regular” Green jersey that he got at last year’s Caps con. I have a regular Semin jersey that he got me for Christmas last year. We both decided on a different player for the Winter Classic.

I wear mine proud out here. As for the Winter CLassic, I’m breaking out the old Carey 30! Have fun there. I will be cheering from afar!!!

Playing in fog could be interesting, ghostly figures weaving in and out of sight on the ice.
(Yes, I know about the avatar hounding - just pretend mine is invisible.)
Ovie skating full speed out of the fog is probably a recurring nightmare for some players.

Hopefully tonight he skates out of the fog he has seemingly been in this year.

Look at the 2 days before, and realize how much worse it could be, and that a slight change and that’s what you could get.
Aim for the head baby Jesus
BTW, the game will be played 1/2 in case they can’t play on 1/1 due to weather. Consider making contingency plans.

I’ll be wearing a Merino wool baselayer top with 0 degree synthetic longjohn bottoms. Next layer, fleece pants and jumper. Next layer windproof waterproof goretex shell bottom with a soft-shell wind proof jacket. Next layer, nick backstrom winter classic sweater. I’ll have a bacavala in my pocket just in case. Waterproof windproof gloves too.
The best part is everything is really thin and light so it won’t feel bulky. I will then climb a mountain after the game. Haha.
Think twice before you speak, and then you may be able to say something more insulting than if you spoke right out at once.
Tail gate!
Today my cousins (Pens fans, boo) and I secured a mobile home rental for trail gating. I plan on wearing at least six layers under my Backstrom classic jersey haha.

The key is keeping the feet warm. A piece or two of cardboard under them so they are not directly on frozen cement can be the difference between a good time and a bad time.
