OK Gloating Gloaters, you claim you predicted Flash-for-Hannan, eh? Well then, we want proof. Post it. Quotes and citations, or it didn't happen.

I’ll get it started, using the SB archives. First person lusting after Hannan:
Do the Caps still have lots of injuries on D? The Avs could trade Jordan Leopold or Brett Clark. Lots of Avs fans would like to unload some of Scott Hannan’s big salary too.
by Pookie on Dec 28, 2008 5:11 PM PST
First proposal that actually made any sense under the cap (sorry Pookie) was Hannan for Nylander:
Hmm. Either way, the Avs better not screw the pooch on this one.
Sadly, they’ll probably be right back at the top of the lottery next year, and for a couple years hence. Welcome to Cap hell.
A thought came to me just now, do you think the Avs would be down with a Nylander for Scott Hannan swap? Basically, each team could rid itself of a salary albatross and pick up an asset that they need a little more. The Avs could get a #2 center who would fit their system, and the Caps could get a defensive-defenseman…
by D’ohboy on Apr 23, 2009 1:36 PM PDTI actually discussed that trade with my brother earlier this season. If only…

(note: F&B will actually get credit for this one if the brother in question will corroborate his story)
First FanPost lusting after Hannan was about a year ago:
If we are trading with Colorado I would prefer to get Scott Hannan (2 years left at 4.5) but I think that is a less likely option than Foote….

First FanShot goes to Steck It Out, just days ago:
Scott Hannan?
The Avs traded for Ryan O’Byrne today in exchange for prospect Michael Bournival.
In the post on Mile High Hockey, there’s one post about how O’Byrne is like a cheaper Scott Hannan. I don’t know if that’s a viable comparison, but I know there’s been discussion on the Rink that Hannan would be an option for a D-man trade for the Caps.
With the O’Byrne trade, maybe the Avs might deem Hannan expendable. I want to gauge feedback on whether or not people here think he’d be someone to go after.
He’s got a $4.5 million cap hit for this year, so that might be an issue.
But as usual, we commenters ain’t got nothing on JP, who (with an assist from TSN) was lusting after Hannan even before he was overpaid:
there’s nothing earth-shattering in the article, but he does throw a few free agent names out there as possibilities, including Scott Gomez, Chris Drury, Peter Forsberg, Mike Comrie, Tyler Arnason, Ladislav Nagy, Kyle Calder and Scott Hartnell up front and Roman Hamrlik, Andrei Markov, Brian Rafalski, Andy Sutton and Scott Hannan on the blueline [note: I linked each to each player’s TSN.ca bio for your convenience, and if you’re curious as to how much money the guy made this past year, head to NHLPA.com]….
by J.P. on Apr 23, 2007 4:21 PM PDT
2007!! Hey, JP, remember when you had to link to people’s bios at TSN because you didn’t have them linking automatically to bios hosted right here at SB?
Naturally, I’m getting in line for a pat on the back myself. (Note F&B initially hating on the idea. Don’t anyone let him tell you he thought of it himself!)
I’ll throw a name out there — Scott Hannan. Strong, physical guy who can play the top pairing and would really be an excellent asset on the second pairing. Will bring home 4.5 Million each of the next two years, which are the back half of a 4-year contract he signed when things looked brighter in Colorado. Well, Colorado is in full rebuild now and it may not make sense to pay 9 Million to a 30-year old defenseman over those next two years. Hannan probably isn’t an all star, but he’s got 600+ games of experience and knows how to get it done.
A guy like that would be out of the question for the Caps with Nylander on the team. But if Nylander leaves, this kind of move becomes a possibility. And you can fill in any other veteran who was signed for a long contract a couple of years ago that looked good at the time.
by Gould Old Days on Jul 26, 2009 1:12 PM PDT…
No thanks to Scott Hannan. Yes please to Patrick Sharp (3 more years at 3.9, a freaking steal). Sharp would be more expensive to acquire than Hannan, but he helps this team far more than Hannan did. Our top 6 forwards were a bigger weakness than our D was and Sharp would immediately give us 2 elite lines no matter how you arranged them.by Fehr and Balanced on Jul 26, 2009 1:47 PM PDT
Jordan’s suggestion of Alex Semin for Hannan and Svatos deserves special mention:
Semin for Marek Svatos and Scott Hannan and a draft pick.

Finally, credit goes to Wheeler for the first float of a Flash-for-Hannan trade, offered this summer during the Eric Belanger Incident.
If you’re looking at teams that can use a top-6 forward more than they can use the D-man, and D-men with expiring contracts with salaries in the range that would fit on the Caps, I think you come up with the following list: Bryan McCabe, Roman Hamrlik, Scott Hannan, Eric Brewer, Ian White, Steve Staios, and Brent Sopel
Add in teams that need to clear cap space, and you could add Kevin Bieksa and Christian Erhoff.
Out of that list, the only ones I would maybe want to see on the Caps would be Hannan, Brewer, White, Bieksa, and Erhoff. Staios might be acceptable if he came with a pick, but I’m not sure he’s much better than Erskine at this point. McCabe and Hamrlik might be acceptable if we could get some salary going the other way, but I don’t know who else the Caps would want to give up.

To be fair, to me, the part you quoted only objects to Hannan on the basis of wanting Sharp more, not on the basis of Hannan being terrible.

Thanks for the clarification. I was wondering how you went from preferring him in February to saying no thanks in July.

I want Sharp more too.

Yes. Roll-over helps.
Which reminds me that back in 1982, I suggested to my Dad that we trade Gaetan Duchesne for the future rights to a future defenseman with a future franchise in Colorado.
I was kidding at the time, but stranger things have happened. My Dad will provide proof.

We didn’t believe you at first, but we asked like three people who were at that party. They not only corroborated your story, but even said you totally mentioned wanting to start a company someday. Sorry! If this isn’t enough money, let us know.

Gotta say I love Hannan for Flash straight up better than I would have loved Hannan/Svatos for Semin.

While we’re at it, can I get credit for calling for Varly after Game 1 against the Rangers?
How about for the 3 touchdowns I scored in high school football…

If something happens, I’m on record saying its Caps W (Fehr/Flash) to Colorado for a D (Quincey).

You can also ask KHTAD or F&B – I’ve been discussing the likelihood of a Colorado-Washington trade all season.
I’m still mildly surprised that the Avs gave us Hannan for Flash. In another comment I said this:
I’d offer Flash. Given the Hunwick trade, maybe they’re that dumb.
Maybe the Avs didn’t like Fehr’s lack of speed, or maybe GMGM was unwilling to part with him. Either way, the pieces fell into place for the Caps when Stewart got hurt. Basically, Colorado had to take salary back, which let us unload Flash.
And I hear you talk the talk, but I don't see you walk the walk and I still don't believe a thing you say.
