(Luckily, I have Caps Snaps as one of my bookmarked pages) In any case, numerous Ovi pictures. But plenty of the other guys too.

I thought a “natural” hat trick had to be three goals in succession before anyone else scored – i.e., to open the game?
No? Maybe?
I went to bignaturals.com to sleuth out the definition, but weirdly there was hardly anything about hockey there…
Patron saint of quality footwear.
Joe B. says on his blog that a natural hattrick is indeed three goals in succession by the same guy.
There's always more to learn about Hockey.
I had thought the same as fat_daddyo, but everyone seemed to be calling it a natural. Doesn’t matter really, just confuses.
"It's always good to have vikings."
It doesn’t have to be the first three scored in the game – just three in succession by one player at some point in the game.

nah, that’s a bad ass natural hat trick. Seriously, a natural in the same period? In under 5 minutes? un-fricking-believable!

I know I know better, but I was reading the comments for some laughs on Capitals Insider and someone insisted that Brian Fahey was a better option than Mike Green.

To be fair, Fahey did have an assist last night while Green was held off the score sheet for the second consecutive game.

Chris Pronger at his douchy best in the post game interview yesterday. Smug, condescending, and a-holish all at once. Quite a feat.

He and the Philly sports media/fans were made for each other. Truly his spiritual home.

It amazes me how instead of growing up, he seems to be growing younger. Either that, or I’ve never really taken note of him until starting with last year’s Cup final.

I’m pleased that this is only true for his maturity, and not for his abilities, which I do think are starting to slip

I liked it as well. I love that he’s not afraid to be a dick or say something controversial.
So when a guy shows some personality we rip on him, and when a guy is robotic we rip on him. What exactly do hockey fans want?

I think there’s a difference between a personality and being a jerk. Pronger crosses that line with seeming regularity. I don’t know who asked him the question about his Averyesque behavior, but Prongers felines of “what did you see” comes off as condescending and jerky. Guys asking him a question about the most critical play of the game. Either answer it or don’t, but don’t be a asshole to the guy trying to do his job.

He’s obviously acting like a condescending prick. But I like that. Personality goes both ways, and it’s no fun if everyone is a Lady Byng candidate. Pronger fills an important role in the league and I think he’s finally reached the point where he says “fuck it, I’m in the HoF, I don’t give a shit what the media thinks, I’m just going to run my mouth.” Roenick used to cross lines by being too candid and for a while it seemed like the media reaction was silencing him. Heroes are no good without villains.

I’ll be honest, if someone on our team had some clever and prickish comments about the officiating on a close call I’d be smiling. Since it’s Pronger and he’s on the Flyers I’ll call him a prick, but I don’t mind the personality.

I wouldn’t say Pronger is a heel, but he’s kind of like one. He’s absolutely hilarious in his own way and the NHL would be less interesting without him. The stealing pucks thing is so over the top cartoon evil that if he did that against the Caps, I’d cheer for him. It’s just such an asshole move you can’t help but love it.

I absolutely loved that move. The NHL needs more “villains” like him and fewer like Avery and Cooke.
The NHL needs to embrace the players like Pronger and Bissonnette, who actually show their interesting personality.

He was obviously pissed off…and IMO rightly so. Granted it isn’t the only reason they lost but the way the rule is written what he did isn’t a penalty.

Hendricks’ right glove placement and 39’s facial expression are…interesting. You know what they say, keep your hands on your stick at all time, or you might get a holding penalty.

Heh. PK Subban grabbed Bogo in a scrum and did some yapping, then hung on for dear life after he figured out who he was tangled up with.
PK is a douche.

Man, what a weak move by Subban. No disrespect to Bogosian, but he’s not even a true light heavyweight. Subban should have at least tried to fight instead of turtling. Glad to see Bogosian got some punches in.

Uhh…Bogo is massive and massively strong. He’s not a goon, but I wouldn’t be shocked to find out that he’s in the top handful of strongest guys in the NHL. I’m pretty sure if Subban had actually tried to throw there, he’d have gotten crushed.

Bogo would eat Subban for breakfast without breaking a sweat.
I just thought it was funny that Subban came in snorting fire, and then when Bogo called his bluff, Subban suddenly found himself thinking that maybe, what with the PP and time left and all, it just didn’t seem like the ideal time to get into a little dust-up.

Seriously, what a tool Subban is. He’s making puppy dog eyes at the ref so he doesn’t have to fight and turtling to avoid it and then he tries to cold cock Bogosian. Hope Avery goes after him sometime.

I’ve read the puck daddy blog and seen the don cherry video. I don’t see what is the big deal. So PK talks a little sh*t here and there to richards and crosby, who themselves are some of the biggest douchebags in the league. Are they “untouchable” that no one can say anything to them?
The difference is Richards and Crosby have walked the walk. They have a right to talk, they’ve even thrown down to show that they have the right. After Crosby fought Niskanen I won’t ever complain about his post-whistle play. When you’re that willing, you earn it.

I read the report cards on the teams (CBS.com) and noticed the only A+ was given to the Flyers. Can we now talk about the CBS jinx. The Flyers have lost two consecutive games via shootouts. (But, of course, they beat us.)
Meanwhile, the Pens are red hot and won again. And a hattie for Crosby who is also red hot. (Time for someone to get hot against the team he used to get hot against.)

I’m frustrated by the so-called experts that continue to harp on the defense. Here’s what Goldstein said as a negative about the Caps:
But the Caps didn’t answer all the questions about team defense in the first quarter, and they still have to
Being curious, I pulled up the current standing as of this afternoon and compared goals for and goals against per game. In goals again, the Caps rank 13th in the league at 2.75 GA/G. Montreal and Philadelphia are tops at 2 GA/G, a level that I don’t believe is tenable. Last year, the Caps were 16th at 2.77.
If you remove the two 5-0 games, the GA/G drops to 2.54 and puts them 7th in the league. Two bad games and now they haven’t improved on defense.
I’m certainly biased, but I wonder what the Caps will need to do in order to remove this repeated disclaimer. Probably and unfortunately, they have to win the Cup.

Note – I didn’t assume varying amounts of overtime into the GA/G or GF/G averages. If you do, at least according to ESPN, the Caps GA/G drops to 2.71 and into a tie for 13th with the Rangers.

Until we start consistently holding teams to 2 or fewer goals or see that GA/G drop below 2.5 for awhile we’re always going to hear that complaint about our team. That and win in the playoffs.

I love Alan May. His analysis is often so spot on. Unfortunately it’s harder to get rid of a reputation than it is to gain one. And I think you are right. Winning the Cup (or at least being a whole lot more successful and winning a few series) while keeping the GA/G down will be the only way.
‘Cause, like, you know, the Caps don’t like to play the right way!
Alright, confess-how many goals are you going to make this year?

Trouble is, GA is five parts: limiting shots, limiting chances, goaltending, penalty discipline, and PK. Last season the Caps were okay at the first, probably not that great at the second, great at the third, and terrible at the last two. This season I think they’re better in the first, still the same in the second, much better in the last, as good as last year in the third and still terrible in the fourth. That makes analyses kind of iffy.
