Bruce’s quote on Knuble’s status:
He’ll be out for a little while from what I’ve gathered.
Skating off the ice, Knuble’s sweater was a bloody mess. I assumed it was a tooth issue, but with BB’s comments, now I’m wondering if it was his jaw, and if so, would the guy in my Avatar get a callup. Gordo just spent the night riding home on a bus from a loss in Binghamton. If he does get a call up, hopefully he’ll be extra hungry for the win, not extra tired from the travel.

I kinna like this one:
Many of the backarna had a bad game, Tyler Sloan had a heavy match up to be Tyler Sloan. He played 12:47, took a penalty and ended with the worst + / – on the team: -4.TFS always has a heavy match up being himself. Pity the opposition usually doesn’t.

Buy or sell? (Greg Schimmel filling in for Katie)
Bruce says Knuble out for a couple days after he took puck to face, but Caps won’t recall anybody to replace him. #caps

So, on the recap last night: Sloan passively written in as the worst defenseman on the night, but Schultz has five super hits! Give credit where credit is due. Sloan was in no way responsible for any of the three in the first. Schultz was terrible last night. Sweet, he had five hits, but was responsible, directly, for at least two goals (including being burned for a highlight reeler).
oh the minus four? the only goal that clearly resulted from sloans misplay was the buff steal. even still, on that, erskine and neuvy both misplayed the after effects by half assing a stick check and not hugging the pipe. credit does go to buff for throwing a wicked wrister top shelf.

The first and third were both clearly Sloan’s fault as well.
There is no problem a hammer cannot either fix or make irrelevant.
Third was 100% on Holtby.
But if TPP is acknowledging Sloan’s giveaway on 4, then that’s at least 1 and 4 that you can put on Sloan to varying degrees. 1 is worse, but he shouldn’t be making risky plays in the neutral zone and Buff took the puck off him and scored.

sloan got boxed out on the board by eager, who then pushed off and had a long step on him. sloans clearing bid was grabbed by atl because the rest of the caps on the ice were standing around.

Were we watching the same game? Sloan was awful! If you think 55 was bad, and he was, don’t use it to excuse the worst defenseman on the team

watch the highlights. sloan can be directly attributed to one goal. how can you say he was so awful when his pair was the weaker link?
by ThreePingPost on Nov 20, 2010 11:55 AM EST up reply actions
He was directly responsible for the first and the fourth goals. I don’t know how anyone could miss that.
Sloan’s not good, but at least he hasn’t had any of these moments-

He got flat-footed, simple as that. That happens when your team turns the puck over on the breakout to a forechecker with speed, as hockey players all know. I hope you’re not trying to say Schultz and Pronger are equally sucky
Way to cherry pick. He also doesn’t have any of the much much more common good plays that Schultz makes.
The reason Sloan doesn’t get abused 1 on 1 is because he is so far out of position that the opposing forward doesn’t even have to make a move to get by him. But if you honestly think Sloan is better than Schultz then there is no hope for this conversation.

I’m not defending Sloan, I’m just pointing out Schultz as well. I don’t think either of them should be in the NHL.
Well thinking Schultz shouldn’t be in the NHL is just as ridiculous as thinking Sloan is better than Schultz, so I think we are done here.

I guess every other player in the league shouldn’t be there…since none of them could match is plus/minus last year.

Probably a waste of time, but…
Schultz was on the ice for 140 goals last year. 86 of those were scored by his team, and 54 by the bad guys. That differential of 32 goals is already pretty impressive. And then you realize that the guy played 192:55 shorthanded, but only 14:04 on the power play all year. He played almost three full 60-minute games shorthanded more than he played on the power play. That’s an enormous handicap, and he still ended up on the positive side of the goal differential ledger, and in a big way.
But I suppose that’s because of everyone else but him, right?

According to the guy who sits behind me at the VC, it’s because of Schultz’s “line.” Which would be guys who have worse +/- ratings despite being the first PP unit — but it’s not worth explaining that to the guy who sits behind me.

I watched the entire game and have watched almost every minute all season. Sloan without a doubt is the worst defenseman on the team. (Fahey doesn’t count as he’s just been a call up.) As other comments explain Sloan is routinely out of position. He skates faster than he thinks, though not fast enough to recover once his brain catches up. He pinches when he should backskate, abandons the line when he shoul pressure the puck in, and eve worse gets caught in between.
Saying "watch the highlihgts is idiotic. It’s his body of work that proves his worth (or lack thereof)

Sloan woulda had to stopped, turned, and shot it in his own net for me to wish for Fahey.

I missed the whole first. . . had better things to do.
Looked at the scoreboard after one and made a desultory effort to watch the rest of the game. These games happen. As bad as they played, they actually had three chances in the second (Brads’ post, Knuble’s post, and Semin’s sweet deke-to-backhand) that could have evened the score. Luck ran out.
And I hear you talk the talk, but I don't see you walk the walk and I still don't believe a thing you say.

Better than watching the Caps shit the bed? :)

Having to sit through that game at the bar was brutal. Was glad I didn’t have sound. We didn’t play great by any stretch, although Holtby certainly put us in a hole and we weren’t very lucky on some close calls in the 2nd. It happens. Like others said in the recap I’m glad we play again tonight, get right back out there and get that game out of their systems.

Yeah, the only positives I took out of that game were Mackan holding his own nicely (minus his performance in the dot) and Green playing well (and apparently not dying from that wall slam).

Yeah Mackan again was showing the tools he can bring to the table last night. I agree he still needs to speed up his decision making process in the offensive zone especially. Kid should look to shoot a little more sometimes. He battled more on the boards though, with time I think he’ll figure out what he needs to do to be successful or at least hold his own against bigger, more physical competition.
Faceoffs are going to be up and down with him. It’s something he should definitely be putting a lot of work into.

Looks like we’re getting Boosh. Finally, a coach is onto us—good goalies look like Sloan, bad goalies look like Roy against the Caps. (just a feeling)
Tomas Fleischmann played on the wing Friday night after he started the season at center and was a healthy scratch in the Caps’ previous game Wednesday night in Buffalo. It sounds like Boudreau aims to keep him there. “He’s a natural winger,” Boudreau said. “I think that’s where he belongs.”
Hopefully he sticks with it.

![Via Traktor Chelyabinsk's website, here's Evgeny Kuznetsov graciously accepting a handmade hat from some of his fans.
The Traktor fans were aware of the NA tradition of the hat trick, and in honor of his strong performance at World Juniors, they made him one of his very own:
"It is known that the ocean [overseas leagues - ed.] has a tradition: after the execution of a hat-trick fans throw on the ice caps. Hat-trick in a literal translation - "hat trick". Kuznetsov played in the World Cup just two such trick: in the group stage, he scored 3 goals in the gate the Latvian team, and in the semi-finals three times, struck the gate of Canada. These two points are noted."
