Oh, Alex.
Alex Giroux, that is. His transition to the Oilers organization has been less than ideal, and I guess he didn't recognize that the team a) can be difficult to play for and b) was about to embark on a major youth movement. Maybe he should talk to Sheldon Souray sometime.

There’s little surprising in the text of the translation of the article in Le Journal de Quebec which is referenced, even the comments from Giroux. It will be interesting to see if he sticks it out for the year since he’s on a one-way contract and could see recalls depending on what happens in Edmonton or whether he heads overseas at some point.
As to the visa comment, as Patrick Williams noted at twitter/AHLReport, that’s a non-issue; I assume there are a couple of players still with the Oilers who the team also had work visa’s in place for if they didn’t make the team.
I can’t say that I saw any of Edmonton’s preseason games but from reports, Giroux was Giroux and didn’t do enough to earn a spot over other players. According to the CBS Sports preseason stats, he played in 4 preseason games, as many as any Edmonton player. He shouldn’t be surprised to be back in the AHL, but it is understandable if he is disappointed.
I also listened to the interview posted at oilfieldhockey, nothing of issue in that interview as from what I heard, it was just a typical interview. As to oilfieldhockey’s post on the topic, I posted a comment on one point as to the Calder Cup wins, Giroux has 2 with Hershey.
I was kind of hoping Aucoin would make the team this year.
If you normalize every player in the NHL and give them all the exact same number of minutes, Aucoin is in the top 10:

He hasn’t had a lot of NHL time but he’s done a lot with the little amount of time given to him
