Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis is negotiating against a Wednesday deadline to buy the Washington Wizards and Verizon Center from the estate of sports entrepreneur Abe Pollin, a deal that could put him as lead owner of the region's biggest sports and entertainment empire.
So on one hand, he has to do this. He can't miss out on the opportunity to own the Verizon Center and all the perks that go along with it. However, what of the Wizards? I can't imagine a scenario where owning the Wizards does not detract in some way from Ted's efforts owning the Capitals. There are only so many hours in a day. Perhaps I still underestimate Ted The Great?
What of completing this deal and selling off the Wizards not too far down the road? Or better yet, moving them back to Baltimore? :-)
