Breakfast links? More like midnight munchies links!
Matt Bradley is my fµcking hero, I mean he was before, but now he’s like double or something.

I tried to stay awake for that, but it wasn’t happening. Thank you, NyQuil. :P
No Alex, no ratings. Know Alex, know ratings.
I tried, but I was fading by the time they started it, considering they ran late and it was almost 11:00. So I recorded it. Is it me, or did they cut Laich’s shortie? I’ve got it skipping from the end of the second to 13:00 and change remaining in the third. And the third was what I wanted to watch.

There was no way I was going to be awake for the third, so I should have just set the recorder and gone to bed anyway. That was my breakfast amusement.

Yea I tried but when they delayed the beginning I stopped trying.

Oh, this is bad news. I set my recorder and didn’t actually check to see that it had started. I guess I have 30 min of crap and not the 3rd period.
Nice work from Leone.

Re: the Stars rumours
If he was healthy, I wouldn’t mind me some Jere Lehtinen on the Caps. Jus’ sayin’
A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.
Nice job linking that stuff J.P. Got a kick out of some fan posting that they could get Varly or Neuvirth for Turco, not a chance! As I wrote last Thursday night, Turco seems like a potential veteran backup if the Caps go that route. He is an expensive rental though ($5.75M pro-rated cap hit) and he has had a very poor season.
The Caps already have one of those… :) Doubt they’d be interested in Turco. Their crease is crowded enough as it is. I think a move on D is more likely.

Theo’s full-season cap hit is 4.5. I think Turco’s the more expensive of the two.

Hmm, sounds vaguely familiar to what I posted back on Jan. 5th:
Hey, if you want to dream, might as well dream big. If Dallas should drop out of contention come the trade deadline, both Marty Turco and Alex Auld are pending UFAs. How warm and fuzzy would having Turco on the bench make you feel?
How warm and fuzzy would having Turco on the bench make you feel?
Not particularly. I’m not sure he’s any better than Theo. I am sure he’s not 1.25 million better than Theo. I think I’d rather go into the playoffs with Neuvirth and Holtby than with Neuvirth and Turco.

Hey didn’t see it talked about in the GDT or recap but what happened with the puck flying into the crowd around 108 (ish). I was in 408 and couldnt see what happened but everyone down low was pretty concerned.
Hope if someone was hit that theyre ok.
Saw them take a guy out with a bandage around his melon. Looked ok and got a nice round of applause. Did he get hit with a puck? He was pretty high up.

I was in 102, he was in 104 in that 2nd level of seats. The puck clipped the corner glass, right before where the netting starts, and was proppelled a pretty long way and nailed him on the head. He was an elderly guy so I was a little worried, and they took some time to get him out of the section. But when he left he was walking under his own power and gave the crowd a wave.
I actually also saw him after the game on a gurnie. He was talking to his family and asked someone what the score was. So Im just assuming here, but I think hes going to be ok

If you ignore the TSN article calling it “questionable” and “apparent elbow,” they mention that, “Following the hit, Tam was convulsing on the ice before being taken off on a stretcher. Tam suffered trauma to the skull and brain and lost many teeth.”
Scary.

I am still disturbed after watching that. It amazes me how certain hits can be considered “questionable” in leagues, and others that do no damage and are clean get multiple-game suspensions. Who the hell are the jackasses that determine this!?!?
Brads, You're my hero!!!!!
The only people calling it questionable are the jerks at TSN who wrote that article.

I guess I got hung up on the clause “in leagues” in the post I was responding to. I took that to mean that “In one league it’s questionable and in others, etc.”

Context. Leahy wasn’t trying to make the point that injuries weren’t serious, he was trying to make the point that there was a very real chance they could have been much, much worse and we’re fortunate to find out it’s not as bad as originally feared.
This is the “dark side” of the line that Stefan Della Rovere skates along. SDR has been guilty of cheap hits himself (though of course nothing like this).
I hope SDR’s current coaches and/or the Caps establishment pulls SDR aside, shows him this, and says “we don’t want to change your game — we value you for your ability to get under guys’ skins. But don’t ever lose your head and cross that line.”

NO
You drop your gloves like a fucking man.
Now let's say you and I go toe to toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor.
Completely agree, and that was one of the things I watched for in the WJC. The arch of SDR’s behavior is one that has shown ever-increasing discipline. He had one bad PIM against Team USA but it was a trip, not a head shot. Cormier has three recent elbows, and in chronological order they’ve gotten worse. Obviously it’s anecdotal, and the threat still exists that SDR may skate down that path, but call me cautiously optimistic that he gets the message. His interviews demonstrate that he understands he needs to be disciplined; his play in Barrie demonstrates that; and his play in the WJC demonstrates that.
Now let's say you and I go toe to toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor.
What was the third one? I saw the one agaisnt SWE, and the one that just happened. Which one’s in the middle.
And agreed. I don’t think we have to worry about SDR doing this, he consistently says he knows how he has to play and that he can’t cross the line or it’ll hurt his team. From his interviews he has a very good head on his shoulders.
Now drink with me deeply of the bourbon, scotch, and rye until such time as we are fighting drunk.

I don’t believe so. When the Liambas thing went down all the interviews were with the director of the OHL.
Now let's say you and I go toe to toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor.
I’d have to look up the exact timing. I know with the latest OHL incident involving Kassian…incident happened on Thursday night and the announcement that he was suspended indefinitely pending a review was made on that Friday.
FWIW, taking a look at the schedule, Rouyn-Noranda is not scheduled to play again until Friday, 1/22.
Also, here’s the Q announcement and to the person that posted on that topic, I’d expect the ruling to be made at the Q level, not the CHL.

Obviously he’s lucky he wasn’t injured more seriously but he didn’t do anything to initate the situation. The whole thing is unfourtanite for him.
On Cormiers side he did something that could have easily ended someones life or career. So I’m saying he’s lucky he’s not spending life in prison.
Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine.
And I don’t give a shit about Cormier. I don’t care that he’s lucky that he doesn’t have to live with the weight of paralyzing or killing someone. I don’t care that he’s lucky that he’ll still get an NHL career. Fuck that guy. He’s the last person I’m concerned about in this equation. Send his ass to prison, see what kind of fucking tough guy he is.

I don’t know how or if you’re bridging my saying he is lucky with me caring that he was lucky. I’m glad he didn’t paralyze or kill someone because that kid doesn’t deserved to be paralyzed or killed.

So if the Olympics weren’t right around the corner, would Alex Semin be playing through the pain, or would he be resting the wrist. My ability to post is only surpassed by my ability to pinch pennies.
Not freaking out… just raising an eyebrow at Coach Boudreau’s comment.
Here’s the quote:
“I just hope he doesn’t think that this is – no practicing, and playing only is a good thing, ‘cause it’s not going to last too much longer.”

Someone asked him about Semin’s wrist injury.
I really wish the people would mic up the questions a bit better. The questioner was something about wrist injury, which could probably only include Semin, and Semin has not been practicing of late, so…

Eh, in any case I’ll trust the team in dealing with Semin’s injuries. They generally aren’t rushing him out the door early, and neither is the player himself.
My ability to post is only surpassed by my ability to pinch pennies.
Agreed. The team’s been pretty good about not rushing guys back in too early. Varly’s problem was dumb luck.

My only issue with the logic that he should rest before the Olympics is that it’s not the Caps’ job to get him in shape for Team Russia. Obviously we as Caps fans want to see him do well in Vancouver, but I’d rather he busted his wrist up worse the game before the Olympic break and spend the two weeks resting it, than had a great tourney, won gold, and then skipped out on a month of Caps games because of the strain.on his wrist.
Semin didn’t practice today.
The things with tendinitis (if that is what is troubling him) is that doctors will say “Well, you can’t make it any worse………” which is not exactly going to prompt an elite athlete to take 8-12 weeks off and fully heal. It’s not going to get better….but, at worst, he’s just going to be in pain than can be managed. He’s not likely at risk to tear anything or cause damage to the point where he’d have to stop playing.
Kung-fu Rink Rabbit
Notice how when the Caps have a shootout, it is the healthy type.
That Mike Richards v. media story is quite a mess. The Inquirer’s reporter comes across as a supreme jackass.
DATSYUK HAS SICKEST SHOOTOUTGOAL SINCE DATSYUK
Datsyuk does it again. He is so much fun to watch. I feel like if Semin matured in a certain way he could do some of the things Datsyuk does. He has enough skill. Anyway, if you haven’t seen it… find it.

also sick? Bertuzzi’s(!) shoot out goal in the same game. Did not expect that from big Bert.

Granted, it’s only Fanhouse and probably wouldn’t be read were it not linked by excellent blogs such as this -
How about publishing some of those emails and acknowledging, blow by blow, how incompetent you are?
Russian Machine very rarely breaks.
I love this stat, though:
If you ignored the 55 assists on goals scored by Ovechkin he would still have more helpers than any player taken in his draft class (a class that included Jonathan Toews, Phil Kessel and Jordan Staal).
Should be mandatory reading for any media hack who discredits Backs for playing with Ovechkin.

AHL ASG Skills tonight/ Game tomorrow
TV coverage info:
http://theahl.com/all-star-tv-network-p139696
Hershey Bears info:
- Giroux, and A. Gordon vs Aucoin and Carlson
- Neuvirth not going, due to NHL recall
- Mark French coaching
- ex-Caps are the captains for the all-star teams (Baumgartner and Mink)
- Carlson – not clear if he is or is not based on what I’ve read. "PlanetUSA all-star John Carlson, on recall to Washington, didn’t bus to Portland with Hershey’s all-star contingent. “As far as I know,” French said, “he will be there.” " source: Leone notes at PennLive Obviously dependent on Pothier’s status plus Erskine’s; even if both are still not ready, it is possible they could recall Alzner and Carlson heads to Portland
Alzner needed to play five more games for Hershey so that he could continue to play for Hershey over the Olympic break; he’s met that requirement now, so this is a distinct possibility.

Also, there are contract implications for Carlson depending on number of NHL games played this season. Still, righty Carlson is replacing righty Pothier on the blueline.
From Tarik on Twitter
Semyon Varlamov did not skate today. Coach Boudreau said he didn’t have a setback, but …
Very fucking frustrating tweet, Tarik.
My ability to post is only surpassed by my ability to pinch pennies.
Per TEB
John Carlson just walked out of KCI carrying his sticks and hockey bag. So he’s been sent down, which likely means John Erskine is ready.
I have a C on my heart.
Semin
I’ve seen a lot of comments about him getting cortisone shots before games. Does anyone have a link where this has been reported, or is it speculation?

Heym can we put this in a FanPost or a FanShot or somewhere where we’ll be able to find this on Thursday evening?

No problem. I’m kinda bummed I wont be around, because if he gets a lot of people showing up I think good things may follow.

I was considering bringing my laptop to the viewing party to watch that chat live. If Bailey’s doesn’t have WiFi, I’ve got EVDO.

I would, but my laptop is a behemoth, It’s more of a desktop replacement than a portable thing.

Hahahaha, from @dcsportsbog. I want to know how this one came about.
Jeff Schultz’s new nickname in the Caps’ dressing room is “Mr. Nasty.” That is all.
No Alex, no ratings. Know Alex, know ratings.
Not sure if this was it but when Emrick was talking about plus minus leaders yesterday during the CHI-DET game, they mentioned Ovechkin and “his partner, Jeff Shchultz who plays a nasty game.”
All sorts of fail on that one…
Yeah, that’s where the nickname was pulled from, per Steinz. He also tweeted that Brooks calls Schultzie Tackleberry, which is pretty damn funny.

That was very entertaining, although I had to click away after MarioD showed his ignorance about hockey in canada and football in america. Too many cheesteaks for that kid. Apparently people in Philadelphia don’t care about college football! I had no idea.
Even though Penn St. beat out the Flyers for TV ratings.
Now let's say you and I go toe to toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor.
I’m in Baltimore and Penn State is HUUUUGE here. I can only imagine how big they are in Philly and parts of Pennsylvania.
I like how he tried to tell you Northwestern and Arizona St weren’t major D-1 programs. I’m sorry, they play in the Big 10 and Pac 10 which are major D-1 conferences. Hence major D-1 program. People are such morons.
Also, isn’t Temple a D1-A football school? And isn’t Temple in Philly? So Philly does have a D1 college FB team. A sucky one that was so bad it got kicked out of the Big East, but a football team none the less.
Eh, I don’t know if it’s that simplistic. I mean Mississippi State’s in the SEC and I wouldn’t consider them major programs.
Technically speaking, it’s a major program. If you are in a BCS conference, you are a major program. Mississippi State may not be good, but that’s not the distinguishing factor. They receive the same money that Florida does from the conference. All the money the conference makes off of Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, etc gets split evenly among all the programs. That’s why schools playing in conferences that don’t have BCS affiliations are considered mid-majors. I’m not arguing that Mississippi State’s program is better than, say, Boise State’s program because obviously it’s not. But Miss St is a “major program”.
as a terps fan, and season ticket holder, it pains me to say that we didn’t appear to have a major football program this year….
