Rink Rat Pick up game, Part Deux
When is the next time people want to do this? What dates work? Do we want to plan it on a day of a Caps game again? I'm assuming Saturday is the best day to do it again, but maybe others disagree. Finally, throw out suggestions about how to refine/improve the event.

I kind of liked it with the early game. Mostly since we got to have a few beers and food and meet everyone before going to watch the pickup game. But all the upcoming early games are at home and on Sunday. :(
Maybe somehow get some names on you guys, though? I had almost no idea who everyone was on the ice last time, especially the people who showed up just for the pickup game. Other than that, I had a good time on the sidelines and it seemed to work out fine. :)
One away game I’ve been eyeing for at least another viewing party is Sunday March 14 @ Blackhawks. The game is at 7pm though, and the clocks will have sprung forward an hour that very morning, so it’s not likely a 1.5 hour pickup game would work.
But it would be fun to watch the game together.

Possible, but they’re up against Flyers / Rangers. Knowing NBC, they’re much more likely to take the two established markets.

NBC = Nothing but crazy… Caps/Blackhawks would be a good matchup, and has the potential to happen in June, too… but knowing NBC, they will pick their established market first. Idiots. They didn’t learn jackshit from the “Winter Classic,” did they?

Sigh. You’re both probably right. I missed that when I looked at the list. The other two games that day are not so likely. Pens/Bolts and Avs/Stars.
Actually, I keep forgetting we prefer them not to take our games so we can listen to our own announcers.

What if we did it on a Saturday afternoon/evening and then gathered at Bailey’s to watch one of the late games? Like a Canucks game or something.

Actually, Jan 30th NHLN is having a triple header of Canadian games starting at 2PM. That could be pretty awesome, if at least for a meetup. The Canucks game that day is at 7PM (@ Toronto), though.
But obviously I would be more interested in coming out and watching the Caps than other teams, even when there is a Rink pickup game. Sort of adds more value to the trip.
Problem is that we want to play soon and there aren’t any Caps games on the schedule that line up very well with it.

I’m easily willing to drop the Caps game part. I just want to get the skating part together. The people that want to stick around can go to Baileys and watch MMA or another NHL game if one is on. IMO having a date that fits with people’s schedules is much more important than a date that has a nicely fitting Caps game.

30th is iffy for me depending on the time. If its early enough I should be good. Supposed to be at a thing in rockville at 6 but we’ll see. I might bail on it.

What about maybe everyone migrating to Bailey’s after a Caps home game? I may not be able to attend depending on timing; in February, evenings are better than days for me due to work. (I’m mired in a project that is turning out to have evil hours.)

Well, we want to try to play pretty soon and the only Caps game after which that could conceivably work is an afternoon game on a Sunday (1/31), which isn’t terribly ideal.

I’m betting on a letdown in the quality of the game compared to the last couple of years. Doesn’t get much more dramatic (at the end of both halves last year, too).

I’m in. I think I’m okay with all of the mentioned dates so far. I agree the skating is more important than the Caps’ game scheduling, though it would be pretty sweet if it just so happened to work out that way, again.
Is Kettler the only place to do it?
Is “late-night” the only time to do it?
I’m flexible, though.

Kettler isn’t really the only place to do it, but it is the only place to do it if we want to hang out before/after. I didn’t think last one was late-night, but either way I’m open to doing it earlier in the day as well.

No, I was more meaning that I would prefer not to go later than we did, even though I definitely didn’t word it that way. 8.30-9 I think should be about right. I’m just not interested in reprising adult league 10.30 start times.
Kettler’s a bit of a haul for me, but everyone’s right in that that’s probably the only place we’d really want to do it. And it’s not so far that I wouldn’t do it.

OK, If F&B doesnt take charge again by tomorrow morning at 10am. I’ll start working out details for a pick up at kettler on Feb 6th. I definitely wont be able to front no 500 bucks though so it’ll be a collect money at the rink thing and pay before we hit the ice..
