Win Tickets to See the Capitals In the Finals!
Japers' Rink and OptionIt are happy to announce that we'll be giving away two lower-level tickets to see the Washington Capitals' first home game of the Stanley Cup Finals. In the event that the Caps do not make the Finals, the winner will receive two ducats for the home opener in 2010-11.
How to enter the free giveaway:
Step 1: Register a free account with Japers' Rink (offer open to Rink members only). If you already have an account (which, of course, you do), skip to step 2.
Step 2: Register a free account with OptionIt anytime now through February 13th. In the signup process, be sure to select "Japers' Rink Promo" from the drop-down menu that reads Referral Site.
(See below for a screenshot.)
Step 3: Check The Rink on Valentine's Day (that's February 14th for the heartless among you) to see if you've won.
Talk about Rocking the Red on V-Day!
So, you might ask: how can you offer tickets to a game that isn't on sale yet and might not involve Les Capitals? And aren't you jinxing the team?
OptionIt is an official partner with the Capitals. It offers "options" to buy tickets at face value at a future date, including TBD playoff games. You can read more about how this works here.
OptionIt will provide the winner an option for the Stanley Cup Finals - Home Game 1. This option entitles the holder to purchase two Lower Preferred Seats - Section 114-119, for the Caps' first home game, at face value. Should the option be ‘exercisable’ (in other words, if the Caps make the Finals), OptionIt will also pay for the face value price of the tickets – effectively giving the winner an absolutely FREE lower-level ticket to Home Game 1!
And no, it's not a jinx. It's spreading the love to our readers.
So go sign up and best of luck.
Remember the contest runs through Saturday, February 13th – the date of the last game before the Olympic break.

They (OptionIt) reached out to us a few weeks back. Pepper wrote up the post then, and this came subsequently.

Seems like a jinx to me.

No more so than buying tickets for the playoffs well before they start (which STHs have to do).

Besides, I’m pretty confident there will be a home opener in 2010-11. Now, if this was a Coyotes blog…

Done as well. Pretty easy, except “Laich It Or Lump It” was too long for a user name. I had to go with my usual screen name instead.

I had to just go with Killer Carl. I think that should be obvious enough who I am.

Question, probably for J.P. or Stephen – I link to the Rink through my Yahoo ID. I’m guessing I’d need to set up a separate Japer’s Rink account to participate?
A man gotta have a code
I don’t think so. Pepper can correct me if I’m wrong, but basically they’re going to pick someone at random and then vet with us whether the email address and/or user name belongs to one of our members (which we can check pretty easily).
So if you the same email addy that’s on your profile page and/or the same username, you won’t have a problem.

I used a different username and email address than I use here. But you know my real name, so if I win that shouldn’t be a problem?

That was painless.
Out of curiousity, anyone know how many total SBNation account holders exist? And of them, how many are subscribed to the Rink?
Is that screenshot supposed to be a thumbnail link to something that doesn’t require 20/15 vision?

If I were to win these lovely seats, and the unthinkable (no hockey in June!!!!!!!) were to happen, do I at least win a free OFB mug as compensation?

This is great
Easy to do and the costs for each option is just about the same as ticketmaster would charge in “fees”. However, here you will not have to sit in front of a computer waiting for the tickets to go on sale and hope and pray you get through the online “queue”. Plus for me it is hard to get a ticket to any game because I live in Pittsburgh (I know I know, it hurts me just as much to say it as does for you to hear it). My zipcode pretty much rules out online purchases, I had to go through a friend who works for the team to get a regular season ticket in the phone booth.
With that said, see you all March 24th when my wife and I and two other friends (they are coming down from Philly, the other awful place to live) make a trip down there when the Caps kill 23 flightless birds with one proverbial “stone”. We will be in section 423, fresh off the Dewar’s Club buffet line.
How's OptionIt different than broker's fees?
Are all the brokers going to buy up all the Options?
Check out the last home game vs. Boston:
$67 Option for two tickets
$150 2 Mezzanine End Seats – Section 405-428
= $217.
Currently, the Options for the Finals are $17, that’s pretty cheap, but we’ll see how they get scooped up.

it's about convenience & flexibility
optionit is not a broker b/c you’re only buying the option to purchase tix and not actual tix. think of it as a personalized reservation that doesn’t require you to pay everything today. you could buy 2 tix for the bruins game on april 11th but 1) you’re out $200+ today for something that isn’t happening for 3 months and 2) your schedule/plans can change (as can the demand of the game if the Bruins keep losing).
it makes total sense… what’s even better is that you can always sell your option if you decide not to go to the game so everything is self-liquidating.
Gah, anyone else having problems with the Word Verification code? It doesn’t like me…

No…are you sure you’re not a robot?
