Nylander house in Potomac is on the rental market

The discussion in this morning's Friday Clips about Nylander got me wondering if his home was still for sale. Sure enough, it apparently is . However, in my search for the real estate listings I happened to discover that the Nylanders have also put their house up for rent as of August 22nd. There are a couple of possible scenarios. Maybe Nyls and his wife have gone ahead and purchased another big home while the one in Potomac sits on the market. However, given his very tenuous situation with the Caps, I find it hard to believe they'd do that although it's not out of the question. The second, and maybe more likely possibility is that they have no intention of being in Washington much longer. Heck, maybe the family isn't even in DC now. Of course, this is all shear speculation on my part. However, these facts appear pretty accurate: according to the Montgomery County Real Estate records, the Nylanders still own the home in Potomac. The home is still up for sale and, now, the home is up for rent. I could be completely wrong, but this doesn't sound like a family planning on being around in the foreseeable future.

eh. Last year Mrs. Nylander put the home up for sale because she wanted to move to Georgetown, and we all worked ourselves into a tizzy over it.

That’s what I was thinking. I seemed to remember something like this before. That said, there is (and has been) an awful lot of smoke around Nyls for there to not be a fire (I hope and pray).

I hear what you’re saying and that’s why I qualified it. Still, given the bleak real estate market out there for expensive homes and the obvious concerns about his future in DC, would you buy another multi-million dollar home knowing you could be stuck with both? I sure wouldn’t. But then again, I’ve never been paid $4.5 million a year.

$5.5m this year! (But “only” $3m next… which of course makes him more moveable as time goes on.)

Such a bargain! If I were Jeff Schultz, I’d secretly be hoping Nylander stays the full two years because once he leaves the scene, the mob will have to find another player to drive out of town. And we all know who the likely candidate will be.

In two years Schultz will have hit the magical 300 games played and I think (hope?) his game will be developed enough that the torches and pitchforks will be gone.

didnt we go through this same discussion last year?

I feel a little unclean clicking through to the tax assessment. Even though that stuff isn’t hard to find if you know what to do, maybe it shouldn’t be linked.

Just because he’s out of favor with Gabby, I see no reason to make fun of his receding hairline—that seems cruel.

What? He did say “shear speculation,” right?

Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

threads like this get me excited over the situation – and then it turns to furstration and anger when nothing happens

Isn't waiving Nylander the most sensible option?

It would quasi-respectfully give him a chance to play elsewhere and relieve the team of at least half of his salary (assuming he is acquired on re-entry waivers).

Thoughts?

“No Movement” means no movement – Caps can’t waive him.

Until next year.

Right (though “No Movement” will still mean no movement next year – Nyls just won’t have that clause in his K).

I know. I’m just anxious. He’s gotta know if he’s still a Cap then that means he’s a Bear.

I realize that – but one would assume he would be open to that rather than ride the pine.

Part of the issue is next year too. If he’s claimed on re-entry waivers and plays out his contract with someone else he still counts $2.44M against the Capitals cap next season. They might be more willing to eat the space this year in order to save some next year.

by David Getz on Sep 9, 2009 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think there is any chance they bring him on re-entry waivers. If they send him to Hershey they are going to stash him there. If a team actually wants him they can give up a 7th and then call him up themselves. Obviously a team is less likely to want him at full price but it doesn’t do us much good to have half his salary against our cap if he’s not playing for us. As long as Ted is willing to eat the salary for a minor league player I don’t think GMGM tries to get him moved via re-entry waivers.

The final year of his contract (i.e. beginning July 1, 2010) has no NMC – the Caps can do what they want to with him at that point, and this is what F&B is ref’g to.

anything they want? Oh, the possibilities………

Question. Say the Caps do manage to trade Circles on, say, July 2, 2010. For the team that picks him up, is the cap hit the 4.375 mil or whatever it is for the average over the life of the contract, or the reduced cost of the remaining salary ($3something mil if I remember correctly), since the new team is just taking the remained, and not the entire contract? I’m just thinking a $3 mil and change guy is a lot easier to trade than a nearly $5 mil guy.

by RedBirdie on Sep 9, 2009 10:05 PM EDT reply actions

The cap hit stays the cap hit for the life of the trade.

If a player’s traded their cap hit does not change.

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
