Japers' Rink Fantasy Hockey League

Seeing as CapsCon is Saturday, I'm thinking we should have the draft Friday Night (As a way to kick it off and brag about who got Ovechkin at JapersFest) or Sunday Afternoon.  I'll have a poll going on here and I'm sorry it took so long to get this organized.

Alternate ideas can be discussed in the comments.

Also, since the fan post needs to be 75 words long, and I only had 61 before this, here is some bullcrap to let me fan post it.

If this FanPost is written by someone other than one of the blog's authors, the opinions expressed in it do not necessarily reflect those of this blog or SB Nation.

I voted friday, but will be fine with either friday afternoon or friday night, never done this before but about how long does a draft take. If nothing else I’ll set it up to draft for me if sunday is chosen, I’ll be driving back from a water polo tournament

My six team draft (with 23 players per team) took about an hour. I’d assume a 20 team draft with 10-11 players per team will be similar.

Also, I’m curious if people prefer 6 forwards (I’d like 6 forwards) and 3 D, or 4 D. I think 1G is sufficient.

I’m going to use 1 IR, and one Bench. any differing opinions?

I feel like 4 D is better. And are you sure there shouldn’t be 2 G?

2G’s starts reaching into back ups, since 20 teams in our league, and only 30 NHL starters. 1G is more realistic too – you really only play one goalie a game.

I’d err on the side of fewer players on each team. More fun that way in a big league — keeps us focused on the cream of the crop.

I voted Friday, but I can do either one.

sunday is WAY better for me because of a few deadlines, but i’m not going to derail the group’s decision either way (in other words, i’ll make it happen no worries).

I voted Sunday but am fine with either. Gives me more time to prepare, I guess.

boy, I work friday night and sunday night… so I guess it depends on what time on sunday afternoon?

I’d really rather not do the espn auto draft as their system is terrible! in my other draft the guys who auto drafted each got 4-5 goalies………………

by JustJeff on Sep 23, 2009 8:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

but I’ll go with whatever works for the most people.

by JustJeff on Sep 23, 2009 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There’s a way around that – I lock it so people can only carry one or two.

I have work at 5:30am Saturday morning, so I would prefer Sunday afternoon, but I’ll figure out a way to make it happen if it has to be Friday.

No can do friday. I’ll be on planes until about 11pm eastern. Sunday as long as it is done by 4:30 eastern i can do it.

Meaning watching football is a bad excuse for missing the draft if it’s Sunday.

Lol I know right? I’ll be at the Ravens game Sunday afternoon so I voted Friday. Is it going to be on this site? Because if it’s too much of a bitch getting everyone in the same place, then you can do an autopick draft. I’m not sure if SBnation does that, but Yahoo does it. I know autopicks can take a fraction of the fun out of the whole thing, but it’s still fun opening up your team’s page like a Christmas gift and seeing what you got. Plus the actual season is what matters anyways.

by bigmac1124 on Sep 24, 2009 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ll set up an autopick if need be. does anyone know if you can tell it to only draft one goalie? i dont want to end up with 5 goalies trying to get one good one

by renstar on Sep 24, 2009 10:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That wouldn’t happen on autopick, it will probably draft two goalies minimum though. I guess it depends on the way you manipulate the settings.

by bigmac1124 on Sep 24, 2009 10:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I can lock it so each team can have no more than one goalie, so it would only draft you one.

It does a draft lobby at ESPN.com’s site, so really, it’s more of a matter of getting people at the same time than the same place. Also, it auto drafts for the people who can’t be there.

I voted Friday, but I should be able to do it on Sunday if necessary.

I voted Sunday because for me 8 pm = 2 am and I need to save my sleepless nights for the actual hockey season. If Friday wins out I’ll do the auto draft.

by Ice Warrior on Sep 24, 2009 7:25 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I prefer Sunday. Friday night is up in the air for me. May be home, may not.

I won’t be participating, but don’t forget the Caps have a game at noon on Sunday.

Are the owners already picked? I’d play if you’d let me.

I voted Friday.

by DrinkingPartner on Sep 24, 2009 10:25 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

There are already 20 owners. If there’s an interest in a second league, we can get that going.

To further complicate things, what about a tuesday night? I feel like people are more in thire routines on weeknights whereas weekends are hectic.

I get out of class at 7:15 Tuesday. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have no problem drafting in class, but the draft either has to be over by 7:15 or start after 7:15 so I can maintain my internet connection.
