Caps Opening Night - We're On.

Score! Good news, everyone. I've got a place that has alcohol and a full menu and will be showing the Caps opener, so we're on for opening night. I'm not sure about the quality of the beer there, but they do have a full bar and lots of seating. I've been there a couple of times - it's pretty nice and should work for us, even if it is a little pricey. But well, we don't have a lot to work with (thanks, DirecTV).

ESPNZone, Washington DC
555 12th Street NW
Washington, DC 20004

The closest Metro stop is Metro Center; it's about a two-block walk away.

I'd like to get a headcount so that I can let ESPNZone know we're coming and see if I can get any specials or save us seats or something.

ESPN Zone is a great option. Very pleased with that location. Go Caps.

Luckily, I do not have DirecTV, so I’m pretty sure I will opt to watch the opener from the comfort of my own home (with a few friends, natch).

ESPN zone has decent selection of beer and food, but I frankly find it overpriced.

Yeah, I was looking for somewhere cheaper.

we may go, since ESPN is a quick hop from our house.

Even assuming I skip CS lab to watch all three periods of opening day, I wouldn’t be able to get from Burke to DC in time. As fun as it sounds, I’ve got to pass.

I was thinking of going to Baileys with a group of friends but if a bunch of people will be at ESPNZone then I will get them to go there.

The issue is that the game won’t be available on DirecTV (which most bars/restaurants have). Where ever it is you go, you have make sure that they will BE ABLE to show the game…

Class until 7:15 on Thursday. No way I’ll make it. Good job, though, gotsparkly. Hopefully we get another one of these together.

I’ll be there, pending getting the schedule I requested.

Thank you for doing the heavy lifting to put this together.

Caps’ newsletter sez:

Kickoff the season
The Caps may start the regular season on the road in Boston on Oct. 1, but fans can catch all the excitement back in the District with a 7 p.m. viewing party at the Hard Times Cafe in Springfield, Va.

Technically, Springfield ain’t eggzackly “in” the District. And neither is it very convenient for me. So I’m still planning for ESPNZone.

as a former MoCo resident, Springfield is a MAJOR pain in the ass for Marylanders. (and, honestly, its not much better from most DCers)

by RedBirdie on Sep 22, 2009 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Second that. I’m coming in from Western MoCo, Springfield in rush hour? Nothx.

by Knee high to a duck on Sep 22, 2009 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Third that. Coming from Baltimore is even worse. Seems like the Caps aren’t willing to do the Maryland folks a lot of favors.

Sponsorship, baby. If there’s a place in Maryland that wants to do that, I’m sure it would happen.

Hey, I live in Virginia, but I’m not schlepping to Springfield for a viewing party, either.

I’m likely to attend that. I like Hard Times, and Springfield’s just up the road from the little DC.

I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.

Went to one of these at the Woodbridge location last season. Not a bad experience and would probably do again if not for the overwhelming cigarette smoke. Looking forward to VA’s new bill going into effect.

I’d love to catch a game with everyone at some point…but anything ESPN is a big no no for me.
