Any guesses on the D pairs? I’m going with Green/Schultz, Carlznerson, Collins/Erskine.

I agree, but I think playing the rookies together gives BB a very good point of comparison between the two.

by fat_daddyo on Sep 21, 2009 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Thought he was shooting for the far corner and it bounced in off a defender’s skate?

As I noted, it was a cheapie, but they had some bad breaks on nice plays, so I’ll take it. They could easily have 4-5 goals at this point

by fat_daddyo on Sep 21, 2009 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

It was a cheapie, but who’s to say both of Buffalo’s weren’t either?

by bigmac1124 on Sep 21, 2009 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Thought the first goal was just a deflection and Theo was out of position (don’t know if the two are related).

Second goal they just coughed it up behind the net and didn’t tie up the guy in the slot. Sloppy play, there.

I’m not going to risk the debates that we get into about Schultz, but you’ll find that most of us like and appreciate Schultz’s contributions. I’m a Schultz fan, and I’m not ashamed to say it.

by DrinkingPartner on Sep 21, 2009 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Schultzie, too. I know that most people here appreciate him, but they’re just brutal over at CI. They just do those stupid act-like-they’re-surprised crap. “Schultz blocked a shot? Really?” I think people should listen to BB and just chill. I think after Game 1 against the Rangers was when they really went batshit with everything. They ’re really keen on the Alz/Carlson for Schultz idea.

First 30 minutes kinda sucked for the Caps…couldn’t get anything going, forecheck producing nothing, turnovers, etc.

They turned it up several notches since then. Doubt they lose at this rate.

Theo’s been a bit of a puzzle – made some nice stops, very nice rebound control, but I thought he looked scrambly on the goals. Just my initial impression, though – haven’t seen the replay.

by fat_daddyo on Sep 21, 2009 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m quite impressed with Carlson. He hasn’t really had a chance to be “Green,” yet, but neither has Green. He’s much thicker than I imagined him (though I wish he’d tuck in his jersey), and he’s quick for a kid his age in this league.

He’s made a very good 1st impression on me.

Are the Sabres playing a trap? ‘Cause if they ain’t, they are getting pwned.

by fat_daddyo on Sep 21, 2009 9:01 PM EDT reply actions

I think they are just trying to hold on. I don’t get why in a preseason game.

by zephyr on Sep 21, 2009 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, that’s my sense of it too. Don’t get it. They’re generating zero in the offensive zone, but they’re mucking up the neutral zone thoroughly…

That’s why he’s a grinder

by fat_daddyo on Sep 21, 2009 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I know. It just would’ve been nice to see him get the goal, albeit a preseason one.

by letsgocaps on Sep 21, 2009 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Man, Weber is a menace with the puck…

by fat_daddyo on Sep 21, 2009 9:13 PM EDT reply actions

Gee whiz, they’re making Lalime look like Patrick Roy tonight. And I thought Lalime was only the backup. Thank goodness, it’s only preseason.

They do play a loose point, don’t they?

by DrinkingPartner on Sep 21, 2009 9:16 PM EDT reply actions

They just blocked everything.

They know what they need to do in practice.

by DrinkingPartner on Sep 21, 2009 9:21 PM EDT reply actions

So was that a good lineup by Buffalo or not? They have like 9 4th line players naturally so I’m not sure what I’m supposed to think.

Comment first, think second, read third.

by zephyr on Sep 21, 2009 9:24 PM EDT reply actions

Haha. I was wondering that earlier. Did they have a bunch of AHL guys like we did against Chicago?

by letsgocaps on Sep 21, 2009 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions

They had about 4 AHLers in their lineup. I was more-so taking a jab at them because sans Vanek and Miller the are rolling 4 lines of 4th line guys.

by zephyr on Sep 21, 2009 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Ergo the sleeper hold. In the regular season, no Joudrey, Bourque, Giroux, etc, the Caps find a way to tie that one up.

by fat_daddyo on Sep 21, 2009 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, I got what you were taking a jab at. (: I was just also wondering how many AHLers that had.
