Madeleine Albright: "Alex Ovechkin is the Most Popular Person in Washington"
Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright was a keynote participant yesterday at the "Young Entrepreneurs International Business Forum" in Omsk, Russia. In an interview with the Russian press, Albright noted that "You know, right now in the capital city of Washington, the most popular person is your hockey player, Alexander Ovechkin, while in Omsk, it's Jaromir Jagr, who once played for our team, the Washington Capitals". She went on to mention that her granddaughter was a cheerleader for a hockey team and she was "for sure" taking her an Avangard Omsk jersey as a souvenir.

Unless she’s taking her granddaughter a Jagr jersey.

Yeah, i always thought she was a pretty badass Sec. of State.
Fight, you time-wasting figure skaters!
for a girl in high school in the late ’90s, seeing a woman named to that post was really the moment of “damn, I could be Secretary of State one day, too!”
In the mid ’90s, Kato Kaelin inspired me to pursue my career of loafing and mooching off those with talent.

There is so much pressure being a boy; it was nice to know I could be somebody without ever having to work hard or develop a skill.

What’s with the token love for AO when politicians are in Russia? Put your ass where your mouth is and go sit in the VC for a game.
Maybe AO is the most popular person in DC because he’s the only famous person here not trying to take everyone else’s money.

What other America-based Russian can they reference? It’s a namedrop, nothing more.

Ah yes, Madeleine Albright.
She was the keynote speaker at my university Commencement.
- She was a decent speaker, funnier than most. Of course, that may have been because she followed the preacher who gave the benediction. To this day, that preacher is a standing joke among my relatives.
- She spent too much time shilling openly for the Clinton administration.
- When she left the stage, the ceremony cut off to ensure her safe departure because she had another meeting. It did not resume; the graduates were left sitting in their seats for nearly 45 minutes before everyone shrugged, got up, and left.

The President of my university actually said that they were educating the “future heroes and sheroes of America.” Seriously. Sheroes. Now she’s running Swarthmore.
