Sigh, I’d love to check out the game…I am itchin’ for a Caps hockey fix!

I love the forward corps the Slugs are dressing. It’s going to really test our D and should give GMGM a good idea about the relative skill levels of the 4 guys from Hershey.
A man must have a code.
Although it’s unlikely they dress 15 forwards so we’ll have to see which of those guys actually play.
A man must have a code.
yep, looks like both sides are assessing the D tonight.
Related: assuming the lines are roughly as listed, if this isn’t a big night for the Giraffe, I don’t know what is.

What rotten luck, having code lab tonight. Thankfully, I should be home by 8, will catch at least part of this.

I think that should be Tim, not Tyler (of the Pens) Kennedy for BUF
Not that it’s a big deal, but that’s the same Tim Kennedy drafted in 2005 by GMGM, then traded for a 6th round pick in the 2006 draft. Weird.
Anyway, the kid has done well – made AHL all rookie last year with 18G, 49A – damn good totals. GMGM goofed, maybe?
Over/under on how many minutes in the scrim elapse before Finley drops’ em? Says here 8.

I seriously doubt either of these sites pull through. Most of the games simply AREN’T being televised and no stream is provided by the host team, yet these sites list all eight games this evening.
Caps cut six: Eakin, Flemming, Casavant, Kugryshev, Mestery and Mitchell
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
F&B says Mestery is a dud; I think I’ve heard the same about Casavant (?).
Thought Eakin might earn himself a little love, as they’ve said he’s been good this camp.
Are we done with the “XXXX-hatin’ people”? As in, “Have at it, edged-weapon hatin’ people”?
My example sucks, but what I’m getting at is the final exhortation in the game threads.
I kinda liked it. Not that it’s a democracy, but if we were to take a vote, my vote would be for a return.

Yup. I’m still looking for a place that carries Comcast instead of DirecTV, but most places like to have Sunday Ticket, so I’ve had no luck. I know Rockbottom has Comcast, but do we want to compete with karaoke?

Exactly

I’d make the offer, but I think most Rink Rats are more comfortable meeting at a neutral spot and my place is pretty small.
"It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees." - Delores Ibarruri
Well, I’d prefer not to compete with karaoke but I’d like to know how Rockbottom arranges it. There is a front bar area where most people hang out, but there is also a back bar area that’s smaller, but almost definitely big enough. Next time I’m there I’ll ask how they set it up for karaoke, but I don’t think it’ll be this weekend.

IF you make it there before October 1, let me know.

The Sabres’ roster for tonight features Tyler Myers and Tyler Ennis, a pair of kids who were chosen in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Myers, a defenseman, was chosen 12th overall. He is a big rig at 6-foot-8 and 222 pounds.
Ennis, who signed a contract with the Sabres yesterday, was chosen 26th overall. He is a 5-foot-9, 163-pound center who has scored 43 goals for Medicine Hat in each of the last two seasons.
Buffalo has done a remarkable job of drafting and developing players over the last decade or so, and the Sabres hope Myers and Ennis will eventually be the latest in that line. Of the 20 players suiting up for the Sabres here tonight, 15 of them were drafted by Buffalo. Nine of the 20 players the Caps brought for this tilt are Washington draftees.

Lines for Buffalo...If any of you care
Forwards
Pominville – Ennis – Vanek
Stafford – Roy – MacArthur
Paille – McCormick – Hecht
Gerbe – Kennedy – Gogulla
Defensive Pairings:
Butler – Myers
Weber – Sekera
Gragnani – Kostka
My guess is McCormick and Finley throw in the 2nd.

Good to see our ability to take penalties is right there in midseason form. Which, to be fair, isn’t any different from early season…or late season…or playoffs.
speaking of D pairings, Carlson wasn’t paired with Alzner last year for the playoffs correct? It was Alzner and Helmer? Sloan and Carlson? i don’t think that’s correct though, any one remember?

Corey’s sharing some thoughts on his blog on the second period.
I find it interesting that there are still many of the same issues as we had last year, but they’re throwing their top guys at our D and we’re working without three of our big four.
"It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees." - Delores Ibarruri
Whatever happens tonight, I’d try not to read too much into this one – first preseason game, weird lines, new D pairings and half the team not playing. I’m guessing this one’s about evaluating the bubble boys and the youngsters.
Fair enough and very true, but I think Woods has got his work cut out for him. By the by, Corey is giving Tyler Sloan love and notes that Schultzie leads the Caps in TOI right now.
