A sign of things to come?
When speaking with my ticket rep last year, there was a clear message of "Quality over Quantity" with the promotional nights and giveaways during the season.
I'm not sure if other STH's got the same choice, but our "bonus" tickets this year were for pre-season games only. Once again, the STH Meet the Team party is in a location just about inaccessable by VA residents (and if concession stands are open, puts money in Mr. Snyder's pocket, which I can't get behind)
Previous year's season ticket holder gifts have been items that truly make the recipient feel special.
Can't say a small duffel bag with Season Ticket Holder embroidered on the side really makes me feel "special..." It sure as hell will make me look like a tool while I'm traveling.

oh i hadn’t noticed the STH embroidery on it. hm. I’d prefer it without.
Fight, you time-wasting figure skaters!
Yeah, I could do without the STH on it, but I have no problem with it. It’s useful. Last year’s gift was cool, and it’s finally hanging on my office wall, but I wouldn’t have cared if I didn’t have it. The bonus ticket thing is a little annoying, but also not so big a deal. I didn’t get to use mine last year because I had a family event come up, and that was after I’d given away my regular seats. Also, I got stuck with a lousy game (Islanders) when the people around me got the Flyers.
More important to me now is the fact that I have my tickets at a price of half the face value, or less for premium games. I can sell the games I can’t make it to and not worry about the demand for them.
I understand that the popularity of the Caps now has made those niche give-aways much harder. It’s not an issue that has gone over my head. But when you advertise “2 bonus tickets” as a benefit of being a STH, it better damn well be a game that can get someone 2 points in the standings. We used to use the bonus tickets to take our wives into DC for an evening. Now… I just faxed the sheet back in with “Call me when we can get a regular game…”
I’m fine with them doing away with the bonus tickets thing. If you don’t have the inventory, just say so.
I’m also fine with giving priority to longer-standing STH’s, letting them get regular games and the new people getting the leftovers…
Another quirk related to ticket inventory. Took a group of 12 from work to a game last year (NOV Car game where they scored 2x in the last 3 min to win..). So I asked what inventory was like to do the same this year, and that I might have 20-25. I was told that I was going to be limited to 12, as that is what I ordered last year.
That’s odd about the group thing. Isn’t that part of what they set aside the 2,000 tickets per game for? Does that mean that a new large group won’t be able to get tickets at all? Confusing.
I asked that question. Basically, if I wanted 20 or so tickets, it’d be easier for me to have a co-worker get them. Part of the reason it was easy last year was because I could use the ticket selection sheet to buy them without having to go through group sales. I just put 12 down on the sheet and waited for the mail.
On the STH gift. I prefer the unique, autographed/framed items that not everyone can get. I could go to shop.nhl.com and buy a better duffel bag than what they’re giving us. I can’t go buy (as easily, sure I could get on e-bay) past year’s STH gifts. That net thing I thought was really unique and thoughtful. This duffel just seems…
most groups are having a harder time this year. Northeastern’s alumni group isn’t going this year because it was going to cost them ~$200/seat, vs. $50 last year. Of course, Northeastern wants to see the Bruins play, and it needs to be a weekend game, which means they want the last game of the year. I know a couple other groups that are having similar difficulties.
In between this and the desire to keep seat prices at an acceptable level, I was kind of expecting things to get lean somewhere in the STH coffers. It’s the year after that I’m worried about, to be honest.

Yeah. I knew the prices would go up this year, and $2 per ticket doesn’t feel so bad, even if it was a 12.5% increase. But I’m pretty sure that back in the day (pre-lockout) the corners were the same price as the ends. That would be a MAJOR increase if it were to happen.
Behind the net, I think ours went up maybe 6%, or $3 per (the wife handles that part). I’ve got to think that if there’s another deep playoff run, that plus the demand will see a noticeable bump across all sections.

our seats (center upper level) went up $3 per game (10%). What shocked me was how much single game tickets increased. I nearly died when I saw the total cost for three tickets to the weekday Bruins game at the same price level.
In management’s defense, considering what other teams charge to see the Caps come to town, the fact that Ted could charge much more and hasn’t yet is a pretty smart move.

oh, I know. I just quasi-fondly recall the days when ticket reps would call and offer lower bowl seats for $35, just to get butts in seats. (I don’t recall the losing so fondly, though)
When I first saw the duffel I thought it was lame. Then I thought about the fact that Ted has to hand out a ton more this year over last year and I was willing to give him a break. But the STH stitching is pretty bad.
With regards to the tickets, the 2 bonus tickets don’t bother me and I am not going to put up a stink about it considering my tickets only went up 10% and I am still getting my tickets (behind the goal, upper deck) for almost half price ($40 vs. $22).
I would prefer being able to drive Mike Green’s car around the block, and then join him and his crew of supermodels for multiple bottles of champaign in the roof-top jacuzzi…
Instead I get this bag…..what gives Teddy L?

That’s what I came to say.
Tweezers and needle is best but I’ll be taking a seam ripper to this thing as soon as it gets home.

Yeah I can’t say I’m super exicted about the bag vs the cool Ovie framed piece they gave out last year. Maybe they were trying to shy away from office clutter?
I also think this is one of the first seaons that Ted has a chance to make a serious profit. After yesrs of losing money, I can’t blame him for jacking up some single game prices and cutting downon expenses of other things.
Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.
