[A]sked whether he thought new Ranger Donald Brashear might now punch him in the face[:]

"No, no, no," Ovechkin said. "Probably he's still my friend and probably he's gonna punch you, not me."

And this -
The hosts asked him at some point what he thought of New York.

“Well, it’s not bad,” Ovechkin said. “It’s not best place in the world, but it’s ok.”

And a thousand Washingtonians breathed sweet sighs of joy. What’s better than the City, the hosts asked him incredulously.

“Moscow,” he said. “Yeah. It’s like Moscow first, second Washington, uh…New York probably third or fourth.”

Montreal’s slipped pretty far, eh?

by Murshawursha on Sep 10, 2009 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, Montreal used to be his favorite place to play, right? I guess it’s now 3rd or 4th.

He wasn’t asking about where he liked to play, just what he thought of New York City. The fact that he thinks NYC is the 3rd or 4th best city is pretty damn funny though. Definitely didn’t make any friends with New Yorkers after that.

Most New Yorkers are full of themselves when it comes to their city. They can afford to be knocked down a peg or two.

Except for me. I’m a humble man who remembers his Maryland roots.

Despite the Maryland roots, I’ll have to rec that :)

I'm also a huge Caps fan living in NY

and I’d love to see someone knock out Craig Carton. They don’t get anymore obnoxious.

FWIW, I grew up in Maryland and had Caps season tickets (actually my father in laws) in the late 80’s.

See you during the season Road Warrior. Last season, we organized a couple of NYC area game watches, and hope to do so again.

I would tend to think that most people don’t punch their $120m+ friends, either.

Rec’d. That clip never gets old. Seeing those two Portland Pirates square off makes me a little misty eyed.

I think that fight was right around the time the Rob Ray rule went into effect.

If #8 and Brash are ever on the ice at the same time, that’s a big win.

by Stephen Pepper on Sep 10, 2009 3:44 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

Great point. The game is already way out of control in the Caps favor, or it soon will be.

whether he thought new Ranger Donald Brashear Hab Hal Gill might now punch him in the face[:]

“Well, if that’s the way he wants to play the game then that’s the way he’s going to play tyhe game” Ovechkin Crosby said. “There’s a lot of good players out there who want to do the same thing and like I said, if that’s the way he wants to play then that’s fine.”

Hal Gill punching Sid in the face after he speedbags a Hab? PRICELESS. I’d start off every morning by viewing that.

Ya think? Just a little? :) I get the distinct impression that he’s all “are we done yet? Can I go get on the ice now?”

He’s been doing a ton of promos the last couple days – ever since he returned to the US. I’d rather do anything else too, especially with those assholes ridiculing me in an interview.

I’d have to look. It might be somewhere on the NHL highlight reel.
