Top 100 Goalies? According to Dobber...
Really? I know these are made up for fantasy rankings, but some of this placement is rediculous.
Tim Thomas is 5th, yet won the Vezina.
Tuukka Rask is 14th. Has he even played 14 NHL games yet?
Ray Emery is at 19. Maybe the 19th best fighter...
Scott Clemmensen is 87th, followed by Brent Johnson. Wait, John Curry is 36th. Didn't the Pens sign BJ to be a backup over Curry?
Another point- All 3 of the Caps main goalies are on the list, with JT60 at the bottom.
Shouldn't fantasy rankings have the best goalie on top, and the worst on bottom? Yes, some may vary because of stats, but this is just turning into baseball.
Some things just don't make sense.

They also have a list of top defensemen, top prospects, and top players. Ovie is ranked between Malkin (#1) and Crosby (#3) on the player list, but Backstrom is 8th and Green is by far the highest ranked D-man.
Fear the Rebel Polar Bears (trust me, this sig makes sense)
wow. the defense list is stat oriented too. weird how ovi is #2, unless assists are valued the same as goals. and the prospect list is off IMO from the names i recognize.

Lundy plays 70 games a season while Timmy plays like 50. That’s 20 fantasy games you don’t need to worry about putting in your backup.
Their SV% and GAA will be near identical this season too. He describes how he ranks them…most of them don’t seem too far off to me on the goalie side. I didn’t bother looking at the other lists.
Same goes for Luo. That guy is THE goalie for the team. Just a few season ago he had 45+ wins or something. That’s just unheard of.
Anyway, from a fantasy stand point I would take Hendrick\Luo over any other goalie.
Read a bit more – it’s not a rank order of whom he’d take to win one game tomorrow, it’s for keeper league fantasty hockey:
The following is a list of the top 100 goaltenders to own in your fantasy pool. These are the goalies that I would love to own in a keeper league that includes the postseason and where points carry over in trades, in order. *Note: if your league does not have one or both of the above bolded stipulations, then I am sure you take issue with the list, but I can’t please everyone.
As with the Fantasy Player list – the rating number is weighted according to actual value IN A KEEPER LEAGUE that includes the postseason and points carry over in trades. The top handful of goaltenders are above and beyond the rest of the group, and it is reflected in their rating.
I use the following criteria:
1. How many wins the goaltender will pick up by the end of this season (or next season, if it is the April – September update)
2. The team they play for (this could give them added playoff value).
3. Where they sit on the depth chart.
4. How many years before they become a number one. If they already are a number one goalie, they obviously have an advantage.
5. Proneness to injury.
6. General talent level, based on scouting reports and statistical performance.
7. Age. So young you have to wait awhile? So old his numbers are slipping? Or…hitting his prime?
8. The potential to be a starting goalie. If they are destined to be a backup, then they are penalized quite a bit.
Bottom line here is that Dobber’s a fantasy hockey genius and this kind of stuff is his bread and butter. Any list is going to be ripe for argument, but his admirably serves the purposes for which it was compiled.

Btw, I notice you didn’t call out him placing Varly ahead of Brodeur, Miller, Kiprusoff, Backstrom and others or Neuvirth ahead of Khabibulin and Guguere. You’ve really gotta look at the “fantasy/keeper” aspects of this list because that’s what the list is.

That must be why Curry is #36. Even then, he’s likely in the AHL for this season and there’s a guy in front of him playing championship caliber goalie that’s 24 years old and is under contract for the next 5 seasons. Maybe they’re banking on a new organization for Curry, but #36 seems very, very generous for him regardless of the situation.
