Wednesday Caps Clips: Number One with a Bullet for Bruce
Your savory breakfast links:
- At some point, Karl Alzner is going to say the wrong thing... but it hasn't happened yet. [Vancouver Sun]
- Bruce Boudreau's book debuts at #1 (among hockey books) on Amazon.com, but I'm still wondering why the publisher hasn't sent me a copy and excerpts to publish so that you all will go and buy it. [John Walton Hockey]
- The U.S. defeated Russia 8-1 at the 2009 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp last night thanks, in part, to a goal and two helpers from John Carlson. [USA Hockey]
- Vogs on how last year's summer camp earned Zach Miskovic a pro contract. [Capitals.com]
- Ted Leonsis has bought himself a swanky little condo in G'town for less than half of what he'll pay Michael Nylander this year. [NBC Washington]
- More on the inevitable Nyjer Morgan/Caps connection. [Ted's Take]
- Apparently virtual Sergei Gonchar is more offensively aware than virtual Mike Green, despite evidence to the contrary. [Fight For Old DC]
- Finally, Happy 26th Birthday, Jiri Novotny. We hardly knew ye... luckily.

I pre-ordered Boudreau’s book. I’m kind of an Amazon.com maniac and will someday die in an avalanche of books.

yeah, if you’re the type that pays off your credit card each month in full, the amazon.com visa is awesome. I’ve been saving my rewards for the year and will have enough for a free PS3 in about a month.
Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.

Any book with “Confessions” i the title is going to rocket up the charts.

I had the same thought. Bad planning there, Potomac Books.

It’s about, what?…1,000 season tickets worth.

Face it. The world hates the Caps. We make the play-offs it’s a fluke. Ovi gets MVP… it’s a fluke. I would love Greenie to drop a letter like the famed Ethan Albright one. http://www.thephatphree.com/features.asp?StoryID=3159&SectionID=2&LayoutType=1
Caps 'n Bears
Who thought making the playoffs last year or AO winning the MVP was a fluke?
This reminds me of Emo Phillips joke about walking down the street and having a man hammering on his roof calling him a paranoid little freak… in Morse code.

I think Bongos is referring to the fact that Ovie has won the Hart twice in a row, yet is constantly considered inferior to Crosby and Malkin, etc., and that the Caps are one of the best teams in the league, but are still considered a one-trick (Ovie) pony by a lot of people.
That Ethan Albright letter is AMAZING, by the way.

That article on Morgan was pretty cool. I also had no idea what Ted meant by, “consider it done” until I reached the end of interview.
Curious that Ted’s Take would link over to the Pittsburgh re-print of that story instead of to WaPost? Or does the TEB insider cycle thru stories that quickly in the dog days of summer?

US Juniors
Good to see Carlson doing well. It also gets me primed for WCHA action. Schroeder, Leddy, and Budish oh my.
Budish is an interesting prospect I would have loved the Caps to take him. If he works on his skating and plays well vs. better competition, Nashville might have gotten the steal of the draft.
David Poile has been loading up the last two drafts: #’s 7, 18, 38 in 2008 and 11, 41, 42 in 2009

Uh guys...
…yes, EA rated the Penguins ahead of the Caps in the game. That may be due to the fac they won a little silverware this past June…
Is Ovie better than Sid or Malkin in real life? Yes. But if they do the rankings based on the regular season, the Caps would rate ahead of the Pens in the game. The Pens did win the Cup, so they should be ranked ahead of the Caps right now.
We’ll see what happens around this time in 2010….
Let's go Caps!
Nylander
Maybe the media can use Nylander euphemistically to hide some facts about real money. For example, instead of adding $2 billion to Cash for Clunkers, they could have added 364 Nylanders….
Let's go Caps!
um, holy crap. my favorite non-SBN blog, every day should be saturday, is joining the SBN roster. had to mention.
Yeah, I wanted to try the online Be A Pro thing, never really got into it, but EASL looks like fun. I’d have to think, we have enough people here to form a PS3 team and a 360 team.

For some reason I still find playing the computer fun despite doing that over and over again off and on in some NHL game for the past 16 years. Online play usually just pisses me off, but playing Be A Pro style with fellow Rinkers on my squad does sound fun.
Nice one on the “Red Nylander of Death,” btw.
I was going to suggest we should start a Rink league, and then I realized there wouldn’t be much variety in team choice.
Maybe we can do Be a Pro mode. But it’s not my cup of tea, I prefer controlling the whole team. I guess I’m not that selfless yet.
