Russia has announced it's preliminary list of Olympic hockey hopefuls, and three Caps (and two former Caps) are on the list. H/t Capitals Insider.

A Russia-Canada final in Vancouver would be so intense. …It would almost be a letdown if they both don’t end up there, doesn’t it?

interesting how few of the invitees were KHL regulars.
Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.
That’s what I was thinking too….I think the KHL regular season begins in September so my thoughts were maybe those players would be with their teams by that point?
(But that doesn’t explain why Fedorov, Kozlov, Markov will be at the Olympic camp, so I got nothin)

Bykov says that list is fake. And Bulinwall was excluded week ago, if I remember right

Interesting.
Still, no way that Caps trio isn’t invited.

see below bykov’s comment for the list :) and I really don’t see that they – at least all the missing players – would’ve done that. Olympics means so much and I don’t think any of the players mentioned above (bryz excluded) have ever said no to a national team

sorry, I meant, turned down an invitation for that particular camp, but are leaving the door open to still be considered for the national team.
I thought it was a little odd that the camp only had 23 players on the roster, considering Canada invited everyone not named Spezza and Heatly. What happens if Fedorov falls down and breaks a hip? (or, more realistically, Varly makes one too many acrobatic saves and hurts himself again?)
I’m not sure how bykov would feel about this “not coming to training camp but still going to olympics” thing… and I’m really not sure if Varly has any real chances. If Bryz and Nabby play good during the season I think they’re gonna be there. And even Eremenko could be in front of him in that line too
And I just noticed Kovalev is in that list… No freaking way Bykov let him ruin the team

It wouldn’t surprise me that Ovie, Semin and Varly are on the Vancouver try out roster and will be on the actual roster (barring injury). Ovie and Semin should be the top 2 left wings, and Varly will be the back up goaltender (behind Nabokov).
Let's go Caps!
Varly is probably 3rd string behind Bryz I’d imagine, although camp would sort that out for certain.
Could be. Most Olympic teams will carry 3 goalies, I imagine. If Russia does, then Varly will be right up there.
Let's go Caps!
