Parise or Getzlaf? Cognitive Wrist Slashing
As we wait for Fehr to develop into something more than a john who couldn't finish in a whorehouse with a fistful of benjies, I ask this: Straight up, do you take Zach Parise or Ryan Getzlaf?
Getzlaf: 297/88/182/270, One ring, 2x all star.... 25-66-91 in his best season
Parise: 326/122/131/253 1x all star, 1x second team all star.... 45-49-94 in his best season
I like rebels; how dare someone score 94 points playing for Jersey? I'm going with Parise, but it's close.

I've got Getz
His size and tenacity are unique on most teams. Getzlaf makes the rest of his linemates better, and I’m not so sure if Elias isn’t the guy making Parise better.
Elias isn’t that good that you can say he is carrying Parise; I’d say it’s the other way around. I still take Getzlaf but it’s real close. Getzlaf’s size and physicality are what sets him apart, IMO.

But while I would argue Getz is the best on his line, I don’t know if as clear of a distinction can be made about Parise. I’d take Elias over Parise… But that’s cause we’ve got wingers.
First off, you are insane (meant in the nicest possible way). I don’t think I’d take Elias in his prime over Parise, much less Elias post-lockout. Parise is a more versatile player, who is younger, and has more upside. Elias is past his prime and already shown his high end potential. Parise is already an impact player that makes things happen on his own. Maybe Elias used to be that caliber of player, but he definitely isn’t anymore. Second off, Elias is solely a wing, Parise can play C or W. If you are looking for a C then Elias is out of the discussion.

just so history doesn’t get lost, the caps didn’t have the chance to draft parise (unless they traded up). the caps did have the chance to draft mike richards (he went 5 spots after the holy triumvirate of parise-fehr-getzlaf), who would be my pick of the three now that we have backstrom on line #1.

Richards isn’t part of the Fehr sandwich, though I’d still take him after Getz and Parise.

I'll Take Zach...
Parise is ringing up those big numbers playing for the New Jersey “Offense, what’s that?” Devils. To get anything near 100 points when playing for Lou up there is a helluva offensive performance.
Let's go Caps!
Not to take anything away from Parise’s success, and obviously he was a good offensive player in the last couple years as well, but the Devils really got away from that super-defensive mentality this season both in terms of system and results.

The Devils still trap more than most teams in the NHL, and they’re still good at it. Sure they opened up some, but only because their offense was so tightly shut before.
My wife still thinks they’re the team of robots in red, black and white that send second line after second line out there. Then again, she likes watching them because of Zubrus (I can hear her now, “Go Zubie go!”).
Now if could fully convert her to the Caps (she’s a Sharks fan first and foremost…)
Let's go Caps!
Gimme Getzy (both Ryan and DMG).

I mean, we’re pretty much the same player so it’s basically win/win.

If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if I’m related to him….

And for the record, I suspect JP bears no relation to 1896 Olympian Jean Proess; Matt Bradley is not related to automobile designer Eric Broadley; and Dave Steckel is not kin to Australian swimmer Hayden Stoeckel.

Getzlaf: just imagine him paired with Ovechkin.
I like Parise’s game, but give me the nasty, playmaking center over a scoring wing any day.

I agree. That combination of size, skill, grit, and production is so rare, especially at the center position.

So you’d take Getzlaf over Ovechkin, keeping with that reasoning?

Hey, I said “a scoring wing,” not “the best LW of his generation” ; )

The number 7 threw me. He wore 9 most of his career, and that’s the number they retired.
“The Golden Jet.” They don’t make nicknames like they used to. Well, until “His Excellency, The Ambassador…”

Of course, that was tongue planted firmly in cheek.
