Maybe "Simeon Varlamov" isn't a household name after all...

"Jose Theodore/Sergei Varlamov/Michal Neuvirth, Washington -- With Alex Ovechkin leading one of the NHL's most-dynamic offenses, the Caps don't need their goaltenders to be the hero on most nights -- but they do need someone who makes the saves that need to be made. Theodore was adequate for most of the regular season, but Varlamov took the starting job in the playoffs and Neuvirth led Hershey to the AHL title. One of the three needs to stand up and take charge if the Caps are going to get further than the second round of the playoffs." - NHL.com's "Who's on the hot seat in the East?"

LOL. I read right past that. “Sergei, Simeon, what the hell, they’re all Russians…” – the NHL.

It’s fixed. Good to know the NHL follows Japers’ Rink for their cite checking.

Dang. Here I was all excited that we actually had signed Sergei Varlamov…

…or not.

Fedorov was one of the greatest centers in hockey history and he could have been an all star or better on defense. But who knows — maybe he would have been a great goalie too…

NHL.com must have hired some ex ESPN.com employees

Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.

When I read this headline, I thought that maybe Varly started making people spell his first name “Semyon”…

"My face is my mask."

I think they are supposed to start using that, actually. The team at least.

I like the spelling ‘Semyon’.

It seems to get people to put the right stress on his first name at least… the last name may never be correctly pronounced around the league.

The way the HNIC guy said it in MTL was cool, albeit wrong.

“There it is…Stopped by Var-lamov!”

by red army line on Jul 22, 2009 4:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ESPN nowadays dictates who is a household name and who is not. Varlamov made a name for himself this postseason.

I see NHL.com corrected the error in Varlamov’s first name. He’s no longer listed as Sergei. Guess someone must have pointed it out. (Or they noticed the error as soon as it got on line.

This isn’t the first time NHL.com had errors in Varly’s name… During the playoffs I sent at least one email to dan rosen asking for him to correct this exact same mistake…

In your article on NHL.com you listed sergei varlamov as a goalie from the washington capitals…

It’s definitely Simeon Varlamov…http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8473575

just thought I’d give you a heads up.

They never write me back — probably because I’m such an asshole when I notify them of their gross inattention to detail. I swear that site needs some new editors.
