Oilers Blogger Wants Steckel
It's nice to see some love for one of our 3rd/4th line players.
There's no way of course that the Caps would do a deal that this guy is proposing.
And I hope to see Steckel in a caps uniform for a long time ( especially since I threw down money for his jersey last fall!)

Seriously, especially on that laughable offer. They keep talking about him as a 4C (which I guess isn’t all that unfair given where he played a lot last year) but anyone that has watched him or the Caps at all knows he’s a lot more valuable to us than just a 4th line guy. No chance he gets moved for an up-and-comer fighter.
I was delighted to see that most of the comments were really thoughtful, though. Better than a lot of places (CI, PD), and clearly lots of them had either spotted Steckel a while back, or did some research on him to see what the fuss was about.
But they still can’t have him. At any price.
Sure they can, they can wait until next year and pay above market, which some team is bound to do for him.

Are you responding to me or RedBirdie? I’m saying that they could trade for Steckel, but they won’t pay the price it would take to pry him away. Waiting a year to make a UFA run is a different story.
I was trying to handle both there. Stecks won’t get moved (so I hope), but the UFA route is far more likely.

Apparently, Oilers fans want Steckel, too, by the way the comments look. I didn’t know who this JF Jacques was so I looked him up. I personally don’t think there’s a chance in hell we’d trade Stecks for that guy and a prospect/pick. Does anyone know why he only played 15 games last season, NHL and AHL combined?
And, I’m jealous of your Steckel jersey. I’ve been wanting one.
– Lastly, and most important, it looks to me like the Oilers and Caps each have something the other team wants on needs. The Oilers need a face-off man and the Caps could use some toughness at the bottom of the roster after losing Donald Brashear. I’m thinking J.F. Jacques could be their man…
Jacques, 24, is young enough and tough enough, despite back problems that stalled his career before he returned this season, to be of interest to the Capitals with Brashear gone.
I will text the Steckel suggestion to Tambellini and await word back. As always, when I know what his response is, you’ll know.

Boy, do we lack toughness. I think it’s hard to say that when Matt Bradley’s willing to get his ass kicked at a moments notice. Also, I think a healthy Clark will drop the gloves, and Erskine is a smacker. If we desperately want a 4th liner to goon things up, bring up Finley. But we shouldn’t. I’d rather have the Caps in the next 10 years be like the WIngs of the last ten years than trying to force an enforcer on the team.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
I think that this blogger has “enforcer” and “toughness” confused. I did for a while, so no shame there. (And the idea of Finley on the forecheck makes me happy if he’s fast enough to do it. You’re a Dman preparing to break out and you see a 6’7" mountain of muscle bearing down on you … what do you do?

Perhaps this guy didn’t get to see our boy’s Game 6 heroics up in Pittsburgh last May? Unless Steck’s game completely falls apart this season, I don’t see how GMGM can’t make every effort possible to retain this guy (after Backis and Sasha of course). ESPECIALLY for his faceoff prowess. That’s a huge advantage to have on your toolbelt going into those pressure-packed face-offs in your own end on the PK. Or when the opponent has the desperation attacker on ice at the end of a 1-goal game. See “Perrault, Yanic” (sp?)
blogger in question = total douchebag. I lurked the article/comments and the way he handled the challenges to his line of thinking was embarrassing. I sense a very little man behind the keyboard there…

yes, i agree. When I was reading yesterday, the comments were going well. This morning, not so much.
(I’m deeply amused about his ability to know exactly what GMGM is thinking. No one else can figure the guy out, but some Oliers blogger in Edmonton can? hmmmmm)
the resemblance is uncanny

You know… considering the age of the comptuer in the bottom photo, the person in the bottom shot is probably about the right age to be Robin Brownlee….

Great stuff, Robin.
Steckel, to me, is like a cheaper, younger Michal Handzus.
I thought with the Morrison signing, maybe the glut at center for the Caps would make them think about moving one.
If they can’t dump Nylander on anyone, I’d bet Brooks Laich is the one to go, but he can play LW too so who knows.
