Good for him. I think Mink’s game translates to the NHL better than Giroux’s. I hope he sticks it out and keeps a job all season up there.

Too bad, but maybe he’ll get a real chance with them.

Mink will be playing in the AHL for Rochester… I doubt he’ll make the Kittens.

Because they’re so stacked up front? He’s got a chance.

I suspect the Panther are in rebuilding mode (where they’ve been most of the time since 1996), and if they are, Mink isn’t the answer. They’ll give some of their younger prospects a long look before putting Mink in there regularly.
I suspect if Mink makes the team, it’s as a 4th line forward and he gets maybe 9-10 minutes a night. More than likely, he gets sent to Rochester, wil be named their captain, and will take on the leadership role there similar to what he had here in Hershey. He played 2 full years with the Bears and they won the Calder Cup both years (in between he played 2 years in Wocester for the Sharks farm team…) While he may end up in Florida, there is something to be said about teaching the prospects how to win.
Plus, if you’re in the minors, playing for Rochester is about as nice as it gets. They’ve got top notch facilities, an arena that’s just the right size and that’s modern, and a dedicated fan base (the fans there are probably more enthusiastic than the fans in Miami).

I feel like Mink is exactly the guy you acquire for your NHL team if you’re in rebuilding mode. He will (1) work very hard every shift, (2) eat up as many minutes as you need to fill in any situation, (3) cost you very little, and (3) not embarrass himself or the organization.
The definition of rebuilding is that you don’t have enough high quality NHLers to fill your roster while the young talent you (hopefully) have coming up the ranks is developing. You need to fill roles with role players. Mink will do a credible job.

Best of luck to Mink! Would be nice if he managed to stick with the panthers.

Sadness but best of luck to him. Panthers aren’t exactly deep on offense; I think he’s got a better chance to stick with the NHL club there.

Interesting note re: Mink via Tim Leone -
Mink has played two seasons with the Bears – 2005-06 and 2008-09. Anyone want to guess what kind-of-a-big-deal thing those two seasons have in common?

Heh. Yup. What does that mean for him at the NHL level, though?

Makes a hell of a selling point for his agent, though.

I agree in principle, but there’s something to be said for teams, regardless of the level, having veterans that have experienced winning.
