Hershey Tailgate Party - 6/6/09
All right, everyone. Since it sounds like there's significant interest, I'm pulling together an impromptu tailgate party at 3 PM on Saturday in the Giant Center parking lot. If you're going to be up in Hershey for game 3, comment here and let me know you're coming and what you're bringing.
Now: the details.
To find me, look for a gray Mazda 3 black Toyota RAV4 underneath or near the Section 103 sign in the Giant Center parking lot. It's pretty far out, I know, but it'll give us room to spread out and should attract less attention from security. I'll be arriving at approximately 3 PM; sorry it can't be earlier, but I have skating lessons on Saturday afternoons that end a little after 1 PM. (EDIT: I had to take a larger car, as I couldn't get the portable table plus four people into the Mazda. A sadness, but look for the RAV4 instead.)
Security has told me "no alcohol" and "no open flames". It sounded to me like they thought a little portable propane grill would be okay, so I'm going to see if I can scare one of those up from somewhere. If someone has one, please comment here, and bring it; otherwise, I'll find one somewhere.
I'm going to do this as a potluck of sorts. Assuming I can get my hands on a grill, I will bring hamburgers and hot dogs, a cooler with a couple of packs of sodas, and a Frisbee. I still need to find someone to bring:
- Trimmings for the dogs/burgers (ketchup, mustard, relish, cheese, chili, whatever suits you)
- Hot dog and hamburger buns
PlatesSolo cupsNapkinsCutlery- Chips (got one person bringing these, wouldn't mind another)
- A portable foldup table if someone has one.
- A good-sized cooler
- Ice (can be had at the Walmart or CVS about five minutes away)
- A grill if someone has one
- Any other outdoor games, keep in mind we'll be in a parking lot
- Anything else you can think of
Think very hard before bringing anything with mayonnaise in it; the odds of it keeping aren't that good and I do NOT want anyone to miss the game with stomach cramps, or worse, in the hospital with food poisoning.
**** IMPORTANT ****
Please bring your own chair/blanket. As I don't want to get tossed out, I don't want to see alcohol bottles/cans and I'll ask you to put them away if I see them. I hear Solo cups hold all kinds of drinks, though.
I look forward to seeing you all there! Please comment here if you're coming, how many in your group (so I can get a headcount) and what you're bringing. I'd like to have responses by Friday morning if possible but I will monitor through Friday evening at 11 PM.
**** UPDATE 6/5 AM ****
For those of you bringing stuff - think 25-30 people. I'm bringing enough for 30, and if there's extra, so be it.

There will be two of us. I can supply the paper goods (plates, cutlery, napkins, probably some kind of cups). Maybe some chocolate, too?
Mark me down for chips, I’ll bring only the best — Utz. If anyone has any request for what type of chips, do tell.
Pick your favorite. About the only thing I don’t eat is salt and vinegar.

we won’t be able to leave until at least 3, so i’d say don’t count on seeing me :( i’ll try to stop by, but probably not to eat or anything. i’m hoping we get there in time to at least say hi, i’d love to meet you all! :)
I'm in the same boat
I can’t leave here until 3ish — so how late does a tailgate go? I would like to at least meet everyone. All my hockey-fan friends have ditched me and I’ll be sitting by myself at the game.

I figure we’ll be out there until at least 5:30 or 6 – game doesn’t start until 7.

Rockin’
(I note that the magic number for this event is 3: Game 3, 3:00, Section 103, Mazda 3 — Based on that, I’m predicting the Bears win 9-3.)

Oh, I suppose, as long as the Bears win. But how impressed will you all be if the final score really is 9-3?

2 with me, and my lady is insistent on cooking something for it. There might be some of her pretty delicious lasagna coming up. I don’t know exactly, yet. Two hours in transit will make it tough to bring much, but we’ll do what we can.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
<3 <3 <3 That would be amazing. What are the odds of talking her into bringing a pot of chili?

Upon further discussion, it seems chili is likely on the way. It will likely be beanless, as I hate hate hate beans, but if there’s a massive request for beans, they can be included.

Not sure what time we’ll be there, but we number 3 (maybe 4). I’ve got cookies (or something similarly dessert-ish and portable if my abilities/time constraints fall short of my over-achiever-ness). Can you let us know the approximate count later?
A minor question — I’ve actually never tailgated before. 3:00 seems a little early, doesn’t it? Not that we won’t already be in town by then.
I’ll be there at 3 or thereabouts :) That doesn’t mean you have to show up at 3 :) I figure we’ll be there till 5:30 or 6 – seems about right to me, maybe a little less. This’ll probably be pretty flexible, with people wandering in as they manage to make it up.

Three of us with Brownies
We won’t arrive until probably 4:30 or 5, hence the bringing of the dessert. For some reason, brownies just feel right.
Sounds awesome to me.
UPDATE: For those of you folks bringing stuff, we seem to have 25-30 people coming, so estimate accordingly. I’m bringing enough chow for 30 – nothing’s worse than running out.

Not sure we’ll arrive in time for tailgating. Are you all still planning to have a meet between the first two periods behind section 115?
Yeah, a lot of people are going up and there’s a lot more interest than I initially expected.

This is so awesome and I am really bummed that I can’t make it.

I was guessing we might have ten. 25-30? Good lord. I’ll do what I can. Sparkly and me get priorities on first helpings of chili.

Thanks to all of you who came by and most especially those of you who brought food! I had a great time and it was great to meet all of you (and we have got to get jmu_capsgirl to ice more cookies like that, those were AWESOME <3
And the Bears delivered, and how, which just made the night that much better.
