"Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin?
"Which one of the three would you choose if you were starting a new team in the National Hockey League?
"Former Montreal Canadiens goaltending legend and current Toronto York Centre Liberal MP Ken Dryden was asked that question last week during a local Liberal Party fundraising event at Little Louis Restaurant.
"After eliminating Malkin (although he said he was impressed with the big Russian's play during the Pittsburgh Penguins' seven-game Stanley Cup triumph over the Detroit Red Wings in Motown), Dryden hesitated a moment or two before picking Ovechkin over Crosby, the Pens' 21-year-old captain."

It’s a pity to have to “chose one” when you can just have two of them!

haha kudos for not going the route of “oh yeah, well who has a cup!”
Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.

Seeing as that wasn’t an option, your comment fails.

It was an option for these guys

(Sorry, SG, he was practically begging for it…)

Haha, hey JP’s posted worse pictures on this very site.

She~
But, at this point, it doesn’t matter. Who cares? We’ve got our guy, we like him more, you guys have your guys, and you like them more. Let’s beat a dead horse more, or not.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.

Thanks for defending. :-) He totally missed what I was responding to, so whatever. You know, choose one of three. The cup was not a choice.

You didn’t get my point. You don’t have to chose 1 of the 3 when you already have 2 of them. Two inherently is better than one. Especially when there’s a Cup involved :)

That wasn’t the question that was asked, was it?
by gfcaps fan on Jun 25, 2009 5:44 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
haha yes, but if you HAD to pick one of the three (blinking and repeating “but we already have 2” is not an acceptable response), who would you pick?

I’ll take flak for it here (I’m sure) but I’d take Crosby.
He’s a playmaking center that makes others around him better (Colby Armstrong scored 40 points in 47 games with Sid, Kunitz scored 18 points in 20 reg season games, Guerin scored 15 points in 24 playoff games).
Also I think Crosby is committed to improvement more than Ovechkin or Malkin. Crosby wins more faceoffs and within five years will probably be one of the best in the league in that regard. Crosby works to play hard at all ends of the rink on every single shift. I’ve seen Malkin and Ovechkin not skate very hard some shifts, especially when they don’t have the puck.. Never seen that from Sid, save the 1 shift in the 3rd period of Game7 when he was hurt and obviously couldn’t go.
And Crosby’s career point per game (1.37) is slightly higher than Ovechkin (1.29) or Malkin (1.26). It’s basically a wash, but I think over the years Crosby will expand that lead.
Then you have all the marketing and ticket sales opportunities. Not to say folks don’t come out to see AO and Geno, but the whole face of the league thing.
It’s a blessing to have any of the three, but a thrill to have two of them.

Now, that’s fair. You have now answered the question. However, why did it take three attempts for you to understand what was wrong with your first response? And you could still leave off the last sentence. You’re rapidly approaching troll territory in my book.

nah, Hooks is around here a lot. He’s not trolling. I’m sure any of us would love to have two of the three as well, but you’d be hard pressed to find a Caps fan pick anybody but Ovechkin first of the three.
As for the Career points path, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Crosby with more total points per game than Ovechkin. They do hand out up to 2 assists per goal afterall, and Centers are in more of a position to earn them.

A couple of weeks ago, I would have agreed with you. Now, I am not so sure. I do think he’s smart in a hockey way. But while he may think he’s just being silly, I don’t. There are friendlier places where he can keep that drivel.

gf, sorry I don’t answer questions just how YOU want.
If/When the Caps win it all, you can post Ovy Cup picks on Pensburgh….Deal?

I’m sure you’ll have plenty of other Caps fan trolls doing that. There’s plenty going around. Not as many as there are Canadian trolls posting on Five for Howling, but a good number.

Thank you for understanding how incredibly blessed your fan-base is, snagging two Hart-level talents at center in consecutive drafts. I mean, wow.
Now here’s a question for you: There’s three options, pick two, since that’s the situation in real life.

I happen to like Hooks’ contributions around here, so maybe I’m defending him too much, but I don’t see anything wrong with him pointing out just how fortunate the Pens are to have two of the three best players in the game (yeah, we already knew that, but he can still point that out). It would be a totally different story if the questions was: “Pick One: Ovechkin, Crosby or Iginla” and Hooks said something like, “I’ll take Crosby and Malkin.” That would be much closer to trolling, IMO.
