Pittsburgh’s captain too good to shake hands with Detroit’s?
Not too good, too busy wrapped up in the celebration that’s culminated in his life’s work. IIf anything the Penguins shouldn’t have started the line until everyone was ready.
A note of unorganization to be sure. But it wasn’t a matter of disrespect, it was just a celebration gone too long.
And technically, Lidstrom left the ice. No doubt he’s not bound to stay on the ice for too long to watch his opponents celebrate, but he did leave the ice.
The slight wasn’t intentional and I’m sure that Crosby will tell that to Mike Babcock and Steve Yzerman at the Team Canada olympic camp this summer and everything will be smoothed over.

See? And now Hooks has to patrol SBN sites to defend his guy with a bunch of excuses and conjecture when he should just be moving along after posting this:

My dad’s a city fireman and taught me you don’t put a fire out with gasoline.
But I like your approach.

This is a ridiculous non-story. The guy was being pulled in a million directions. Yes, he should’ve said, “Hey, let me get through the line and then we’ll talk.” But he didn’t. Big deal. It’s not as if he was intentionally ducking the handshake. Sometimes people get too far up their own asses on the traditions of hockey.
Christ, even in victory, everyone has to try to tear the guy down. Enough. Really.

I don’t think Crosby’s actions were any more intentional than, say, Ovechkin’s hit on Gonchar. Of course, by that, I mean, I don’t think he was intending any injury or slight.
Let’s move on to more pressing hockey news, like the future of the Coyotes (supposedly soon to be decided) or the USA – Italy soccer match, where the US is actually playing well.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.

Speaking of the latter, I saw the first half highlights (that was a crap Red card), but it’s nice to see they got a Revlon PK out of it.

After that American turned Italian scored, I ended up turning off the TV. Then again, he’s as American as I am German, so, it’s fair, I guess. After the second goal, I turned it to Iron Chef.

Rec’d for this alone.

Y’know, I thought I’d be a lot more upset when Pittsburgh won, but I wasn’t, and one of the reasons I wasn’t was because I thought that at the very least it spelled the end of “Who’s better – Alex or Sid?” because, well, who gives a toss at this point? Pens fans shouldn’t care – they’ve got a Cup. Caps fans shouldn’t care – they don’t. After that win, individuals and individual achievements don’t mean a whole lot any more, do they?
Besides, everyone knows the answer is “Alex by a mile.”

This will just have to be rectified next year. :)

Sounds like you and I have reached the acceptance phase.
If for nothing else, it’ll hopefully stop some of the more rabid fans from doing the “Cindy” nonsense, I’d be prone to throw the scoreboard in their faces if it would shut them up.

I’ll admit, I respect Crosby as a player, but I am not impressed with him as a person, and the more I see, the less I think of him. The Pens as a team won that one, and I respect them for that. I still think that Ovechkin is the better hockey player and the better human being, but after watching Hershey win, I understand why the Caps didn’t and that the future is very, very bright anyway.

Rec’d for the conclusion.
Yes, he should’ve said, "Hey, let me get through the line and then we’ll talk." But he didn’t.
Unfortunately, this does nothing more than to add to the image of immaturity. And frankly, if the media (read NBC, CBC, I have no idea as I was watching the Bears) is at fault, (a) they need to step up and say so and (b) need to get their heads out of their asses.

Immaturity? From a 21 year old?

You know, when a 36 year old multiple Vezina Trophy and no-brainer HOF does it in the1st round of the playoffs, that’s immaturity. When it’s a guy who almost half his age and winning his first Cup, I’m inclined to give him some slack.
Can we move on now?

I’ve been out all day, so I should let it go, but I’m going to justify my attitude this way: I am the parent of two, one of whom is 18, and I consider him to be more mature. OK, he doesn’t play hockey in front of millions, but I’d like to believe that if he did, he’d behave better. It comes from how you’re raised, too.
And there’s totally no excuse for the other guy.

Oh, and if there was a “stay classy” moment from Friday night, wasn’t it Wings fans cheering Sid’s injury?

While we’re on the topic, can someone explain to me how the Wings pissed away this series while Crosby went 1-2-3 and -3 in a 7 game series? And it’s not like Malkin covered for him other than games 3 and 4. The Penguins scoring in games 5-7 consisted of Jordan Staal, Tyler Kennedy, Max Talbot and Max Talbot.
The more I let this sink in, the closer I am to barfing.

closer to barfing? You mean, you didn’t barf Friday night? And barf every time you inadvertently see something like Crosby holding the Cup, Malkin with the Conn Smythe, or “Buy Your Pittsburgh Penguins 2009 Stanley Cup Champions Gear Here!” rollover ad that won’t go away on NHL.com?
