Awards Show Viewing Party
Please join your hockey blogging buddies from Puck Daddy (Yahoo! Sports) and Japers’ Rink (SB Nation) for a 2009 NHL Awards viewing party on Thursday, June 18 at Bailey’s Pub and Grille, located in the Ballston Common Mall in Arlington, Va. We’re taking over a room with a bar and a bunch of televisions, watching what happens when a bunch of Canadians and Eastern Europeans invade Las Vegas. (Answer: sunburn.)
We’ll start getting in the spirit of things at 6 p.m., which is the tail end of happy hour; Bailey’s has 24 oz. brews for $4 all night. There’s a menu of bar chow and restaurant food as well. Eat, drink, be merry … if nothing else, it’s a chance to celebrate a fantastic NHL season with likeminded puckheads from the DC area.
Bailey’s is located at 4233 Wilson Blvd. in Arlington (703-465-1300). There’s plenty of garage parking, and it’s within walking distance of the Ballston-MU (Orange Line) Metro. And we’re bloggers in a bar: It’s not going to be a black tie affair.
There’s no need to RSVP, but you can hit Wyshynski as puckdaddyblog@yahoo.com or JP at Japers.Rink@gmail.com with a head’s-up on your attendance or with any questions.
Again: NHL Awards viewing hootenanny, Thursday, June 18 at Bailey’s Pub and Grille, located in the Ballston Commons Mall in Arlington, Va. beginning at 6 p.m. Thanks again for your support this season.

This is the separate event for happy hour at Bailey’s for the 18th. I guess I really have no excuse and should be there.

Yeah…coming from Frederick would take me over an hour probably. Actually, the real problem is, I don’t think I’d be able to get back home after all the 24oz beers I would consume.

Not being a huge beer drinker (sacrilege, I know) sobriety is less of a worry for me than sleepiness. I’m looking at 1 1/2 – 2 hours in rush hour.

leave work early! Tell your boss you’re investing in a community building event.

You have your entire afterlife to sleep.

The problem with that is that if I’m driving home after about 11 PM and I’m sleepy, that afterlife could come a whole lot sooner than any of us want. :P

So I guess the two of you would hate me when I say I live literally across the street from Bailey’s. I’ll have one for each of ya.

Nah, I feel sorry for you actually. =]
I’m 90% on making this. The 10% is if I have a game or not that night.

Heh. But I’m closer to Hershey than any of you. :)

checking out the art ross on his way by? of all the trophies, i’m guessing the ross will be the one most evenly split between ovechkin, malkin and crosby by the end of their respective careers.

If you are there before a certain time, its ok to be underage. Don’t know what time that is, but i think its 9.

Not to party poop, but you might want to correct the address. You’re missing the 4 from it. Of course, all one really needs to know is it’s in Ballston Common. Who needs an actual address?
by gfcaps fan on Jun 12, 2009 12:10 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
And if you can’t find the address, just follow the wonderfully-mixed stench of cigarettes and stale beer that permeates the mall and it’ll lead you right there.

Is the only metro route there going through Metro Center (via red line)? Because that’s a freakin’ hour and a half ride all the way out there.
by DrinkingPartner on Jun 12, 2009 1:01 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
No. You can go around Metro Center (depending on where you are) by taking the Yellow to the Pentagon and the Blue to Rosslyn, then the Orange to Ballston.

I think he’s talking about if you come from the northwest part of the red line in which case Metro Center is the first chance you can get to hop on the orange and go west into Virginia.
Once you hit like Cleveland Park you could probably take a cab to Foggy Bottom or something, but that would be more expensive and probably take even longer than the Metro since you’d most likely be negotiating rush hour traffic.

It would actually be better to get off at Farragut North, walk a block and get onto the Orange/Blue at Farragut West. It would only save you two stops, though (McPherson and Metro Center), but it would save you having to fight through the inevitable crowd at Metro Center.
