In between that and this (emphasis mine):

After going 0 for 5 on the power play in Game 1, the Penguins spent some time working on it this afternoon at Verizon Center. The most noticeable tweak appeared to be — based on practice — the possible substitution of Bill Guerin for Chris Kunitz on the first unit.

You can see where one aspect of the strategy’s headed.

We've got a goalie who's playing pretty good right now, while you've got one who can't get onto the ice without falling on his ass.

Can you blame them? They should try to get more traffic (as the Caps should at the other end).

Agreed. Just think that it gives BB something to say to the refs via the media: ‘Watch our guy getting run. They said they would, ergo…’

Blasphemer. How dare you indict My Little PowerPlay. :-)

Heh. Could Crosby be any less gracious?

We’ll see what happens in Game 2 – as JP is so quick to remind us, this series is far, far from over. The Caps do need to play a little better, and it’d help if the officiating was a little less one-sided.

Y’know, I thought the officiating was good yesterday, actually, with the one exception being the shift that more or less started with Bradley getting tripped coming out of the defensive zone and ended with Erskine taking a penalty (and one that they pretty much had to call, but given what they’d just been letting go, it was tougher to swallow).

I really didn’t have a problem with what they called. It’s what they didn’t call that was the problem. Like you pointed out. Also, like the slash that broke Kozlov’s stick.

Exactly. The ones they did call were fair and legit. It’s what didn’t get called that drove me up a wall.

yeah the penalties they called were all fine by me, but the Pens got away with 2 or 3 blatant infractions by my count.

by Sombrero Guy on May 4, 2009 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Yah, the let 2 or three go, but when Erskine’s stick flew 20 feet in the air, it was kind of a giveaway

by snowburnt on May 4, 2009 9:40 AM EDT up reply actions

That sequence burned me up big time, because the Bradley trip was blatant (and was shown close-up on TV). Other than that, despite the disparity in PIMs, I don’t really remember any other missed calls on Pitt.

They also missed...

…one occasion when Fleury handled the puck behind the goal line outside the trapezoid. He had the puck in front of the goal line and then swept it into the trapezoid, but it clearly (from row A of section 421, it was right in front of me) cut across the tiny triangular patch of ice that sticks out near the goal line. The puck was on his stick the entire sweep, and it could have been called. The ref couldn’t have seen it since he was on the opposite side of the net…

Let's go Caps!

Where in this article does it come close to saying they’re going to take a run at Varly?

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
